DO NOT RENT FROM THIS STORE! The staff is extremely rude and condescending. Interestingly, when you are in the store they often complain about other music stores. They don't understand their own policies like the rental credit to buy program and provide misinformation to customers. Then, when they realized they gave you wrong information they blame you for not understanding them. Rent your school instruments from someplace else - the hassle is not worth it. read more

Blatant Fraud is practiced at Music and Arts in Mamaroneck. I enrolled for 8 Guitar lessons and paid in full up-front. I discovered from my Credit Card statements that they were charging an additional monthly fee and had done so 3 times without my knowledge or consent. They said they would credit my account but they didn't and would not take my calls or take action when I confronted them in person . In total they charged me an additional $1472.00 for my 8 lessons for which I had already paid $483.00. The lessons and my teacher were outstanding. Unfortunately the company that provided those lessons are perpetuating a scam and somehow getting away with it. I had to file a complaint with my Credit Card company in order to resolve the situation. read more

I rented a full size cello. They had great prices (apps $42/month including insurance) and had the option to rent month to month. The staff was very helpful and nice, but It's clearly a chain store. I was suppose to get rosin with my rental but didn't get any. The store is too much of a hassle to get to for me so I just bought some myself. Hopefully there won't be any problems when I return the cello - if there are any problems I will post an updated review. read more

My son just began to learn Cello. On Saturday he will has his first lesson. I was a little worried because the teacher told us the exact siza my son needs to use on Friday and I didn't know whether we could rent a 3/4 size Cello after my son was dismissed from shcool on Friday afternoon. We went to the nearest store, no service guy was in the string department and after someone finally came, he told us there was no 3/4 Cello in the store and if we ordered it we could get it next week. So we visited this Music and Arts store in Mamaroneck. In fact I had checked the rating in yelp before we came and found their rating was not high, but we were surpringly glad that the boss Josh and his colleague Mark were very nice. They were very patient and gave my son a lot of help. That was really very helpful because my son was a beginner and needed help. The rental fee is about $43/month including insurance and tax. Josh also invited us to watch his performance in the end of June in Scarsdale. We were very satisfied with this rental experience and will definitely visit the store again. read more

Loved that all staff were wearing masks and gloves. The weather was not great and the staff made multiple trips to my car on an early Friday evening. The employee, Josh was especially helpful. Exchanging our instrument and helping us get additional supplies. Definitely felt like a valued customer. Thank you for making the experience so smooth and easy. read more

I will never go back there again. the person I dealt with was rude and unhelpful. He clearly didn't want my business. So disappointing.

We went to Music and Arts to rent an upright bass for our child. The service initially was very good, and we were pleased. However, during the school year the neck of the bass broke. We did get the insurance (thankfully), and returned to Music and Arts to explain what happened, and to request a new bass for our child so he could continue on with his lessons. It has now been 2 months and they have not been able to locate another child size upright bass. This is frustrating as we have been to the store several times, called often and still they have no answer for us. The staff has been polite, and explained this is a hard instrument to replace, but then again isnt this why we rent from a store like this? I would think twice before renting an upright bass from this chain. read more

AVOID THIS STORE. I am a jazz bassist and teacher. A student rented a bass from the Mamaroneck store a week ago. It's improperly set up... the bridge blank has not been carved to fit the curvature of the board, making the low strings very high. When the student's mother brought it back, they gave her a hard time, and finally, begrudgingly, moved the bridge a bit, not really addressing the problem. When I called, the manager gave me the same pushback "our basses are properly set up, so I don't see the concern here." After some back and forth that made me pretty iffy about the whole deal, I told him I wanted her to return the bass. He said he was unauthorized to let her out of the contract, and I'd have to call customer service. I did. They told me I'd need to call the local store. At this point, he offered to take the instrument back, keep her money, but she could call customer service again, and maybe they'd help her. The real kicker? When he asked where I'd send her, I told him the name of a venerable, trusted store. His response: "Well, that's a professional store." Yes, it is, but they treat students well, and give them playable instruments. read more

Do not under any circumstances rent a violin from this company. I rented two violins from the Mamaroneck location. Their record keeping of payments is atrocious. My account was paid in full and YET was sent to collections. It has taken me over one year, and I am still trying to straighten this out. My credit has been negatively affected and I am ready to sue. Do yourself a favor and either purchase a violin or go to a reputable rental company. This is a classic example of large companies taking advantage of customers. read more

This place seems like a fine place to rent an instrument or buy some accessories but I brought my acoustic guitar here to get it's nut replaced and when I received it back the strings buzzed where it had never before. They suggested it would resolve itself but it didn't. They kindly took my instrument back to get it adjusted and when I received it, it was a lot better but still not great. Flash forward and my guitar has some spots on the fret that are not even playable. The job was incompetently done twice, albeit free the second time. I don't really trust then to even try a third for free. Now I need to find a different repair place that can permanently fix my instrument for me and am down more money than needed! read more

Let me first say that the staff in the store is very knowledeable and friendly. My issue is with the corporate policies of Music and Arts. My daughter plays an instrument we rent from M&A. I received a letter offering a free summer rental if we renew the rental for the next school year. I went to drop off a check to the store and was told they couldn't do the renewal in the store and I had to send a check to their headquarters in Maryland or call HQ to renew. Real stupid policy. So I mail a check to MD in mid-June and the check has yet to be processed over a month later. So now I'm automatically being charged the full rental rate on my credit card. HQ tells me they don't know when my check will be processed so I will get more charges on my credit card until they process my check and refund the charges on my credit card. So...two suggestions to M&A....accept rental renewals in your stores and hire a couple of college kids for the summer to process the checks faster. Both changes would prevent annoying customers. read more
