During the three-hour course, Alonsa and James taught us how to paint Van Gogh style from start to finish. Though three hours may seem like a long time, the time really flew by as we painted. I was happy with my finished painting (which is hanging on the wall in a place of honor at my place). The price point is competitive for the level of expertise that Alonsa and James provide. Alonsa and James make the class special. You can easily tell they enjoy teaching the class and sharing their knowledge of art and art history. Their personalities complement each other and make the class fun. The studio/gallery - The space also serves as a work studio so you can see works-in-progress by Alonsa and James. Additionally the space is a gallery of work from local artists. Several pieces depicted the local landscape of Bay Ridge (the Verrazano, the bay, etc.), which I thought was pretty cool. As far as a House Of Worship goes, I do like coming here for Mass on Sunday as its rather close to my apartment building. Its a two plus block walk as opposed to the other churches which as five and ten blocks walk if you were opting for one of those. The interesting thing about this particular church is that there are two sections. The part that the public can enter into and then off to the right hand side of the altar is the section where the nuns sit. You really don't see them unless one is doing one of the readings or when they are going up to receive Communion and I should point out that they are served first and then the public congregants. I've only recently been choosing to come here for the Sunday mass since there is one at 9AM and the priest seems to be visiting from another country. I am not certain that they have a priest of their own in residence for those who are concerned about that. There is an organist and occasional choir up above. There is no proper collection to support the church and school but a basket is available for donations should you be feeling charitable. I also didn't notice any sort of votive candles in this section but there are some beautiful statues and paintings. Other masses are sporadic in times but I do think there is a daily morning mass that begins around 8AM if going there interests you.

I have no musical training…read moreand beyond singing, mostly silently, to my favorite songs, I never previously used my voice to make music. I spend a lot of time avoiding my creative expression, despite knowing I wanted more of it in my life. When I finally stepped out and gave myself to my desire for more expression, I wanted to both learn more about my voice and how it's shaped by my inner life. Inside Voice fit the bill from my first lesson. Jonathan met me and my voice right where it was with care, while clearly sitting in his knowledge and expertise. Over the course of my time at Inside Voice, I have been guided both clearly, with playfulness and almost magical intuition into a fuller understanding and expression of voice. I see now how my voice can reflect and inform who I am and the range of expression I can sing into the world! What a pleasure to experience Jonathan's work and learn how to bring it to more and more of my creative life. I've gained the confidence to go further in my creative expression in my voice practice, but also in my whole life.
