This is my second visit to this store, and it's at one of my favorites in the country. The selection of guitars and fiddles is immense. Additionally, there are rare stringed instruments, mountain dulcimers, and some percussion instruments (bodhrans, bones, tambourines). Weird experience, today. I got lectured by two different people. They made a lot of assumptions, and proceeded to invalidate some of my asks. The funniest part was, they were wrong. I asked for a metal Low G string on the uke, and the salesmen proceeded to go off about how he would never put guitar string on a uke. The one he gave me was silver wound (metal)...oh the irony. I truly have loved the ambience of the place. I met and got to know a lot of acoustic musicians by hanging out here. It is even great to see the craftsmanship in the making of the instruments. This is such a cute and unique music stores in the St. Louis area. I love the variety of ukuleles and guitars violins all kinds of instruments you can think of. Definitely more of the string instruments, but they also do you have some unique smaller instruments if you or your children wanted to try them. The prices seem reasonable as well. The staff also horse super friendly. Will let you try things out or even talk to you through it and while I was there, I also learned that they also have lessons as well. Lessons are only $25 per lesson different days of the week. Definitely recommend going to this place if you are interested in learning an instrument want to kind of discover something you. I just received a new Trinity College Octave Mandolin from Music Folk. It was, after adding shipping, the best price I found online. I am in Northern KY so it was also closer. I am very happy with the entire experience of dealing with them. They don't charge for setup, nor labor on other add-ons. They added a pickup and strap peg for very little...just the part cost. They got it all done and out the door very quickly and it arrived looking perfect. I called a few times asking to add the peg and then extra strings... they always answer the phone and are very friendly and helpful.. Buying a new instrument is a big deal for most of us and emotional... I came through the process with gratitude and fully satisfied with the experience.... I have been going to music folk for over 10 years, the staff is friendly and helpful, the selection of acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments is large and their prices are more than competitive. I bought an acoustic electric guitar there a few years ago and still love it. The advice they gave me while trying out different models was extremely thoughtful and I ended with a great buy. I regularly go there to have them string my guitar, the charge is minimal and not much more than the cost of the new strings. (And while they're stringing I can play around with all the amazing guitars on the walls.) Go there if you are looking for a guitar, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer or other similar stringed instruments. Parking is kind of a hassle, unless you know there is a lot around back. Inside there is a good selection of used and new instruments... mainly string instruments... stuff you'd fine in a folk band... hence the name. A whole wall is dedicated to guitars. There is a section for banjos, violins, cellos & basses, and much more. We were left alone to try out the instruments ourselves but an attendant was always nearby to answer questions. A very nice guitar and stringed instrument store. But not the best place to go if you're looking for wind instruments or accessories. Went in looking for a very standard trumpet and trombone practice book called Arban's which most any professional brass player has used. They had never heard of it and could not find it in their catalog, which was surprising since i then found it in about ten seconds on Amazon and purchased it in twenty (pity since I'd rather support a local music store). Saturday, 2 pm. Exhausted, our hero needs to unwind from a long week of fighting evil. He needs to commune with fellow musicians in a nuturing environment. A warm, sensual spot with a woody aroma and the mellifluous sound of string instruments... "Aha!" Music Folk is a great spot with "real music" and "real folk". If you need an acoustic instrument, they'll hook you up. They also act as a cultural center with classes and concerts. This great little shop has been around for decades. It's always been THE place in St. Louis for acoustic and folk instruments.
