On the first class I paid in full for a brand new guitar. They did however, give us a used guitar to take home till the new guitar came in from " Brazil " or where ever it is they order from. It's now July and I still have no new guitar. I called and asked about it several times only to be given the same response. No guitar yet. I finally got fed up and pulled my kid out of the classes. When I called and explained my situation they showed no interest in trying to fix the issue. I let them know that I will not be giving them their used guitar back because I'm not taking it from my child..., their response was that the guitar they loaned me was particularly " new" .... completely missing the point. They never even put anything in writing about the guitar they let us " borrow" ... they said just take it No problem!! They even had the audacity to say if I wanted to return the guitar that they would have to see if the borrowed one was OK after I paid $170 for a guitar I have yet to see.

We have done all three. After a bit of hunting we Found Elvis music shop and it was literally up the street from us, so we got the kids set up with a "first lesson free" arrangement and headed over. Elvis and his crew of teachers are great. They are all easy to talk to, work with and there is no pressure to sign contracts or spend $$$. It is pay as you go and the rates are very reasonable in my opinion. The kids are enjoying the experience - we have been at it on a weekly basis for over a month and they cannot wait for thursday nights to get over there and do their thing. My daughter has been a student of Shazkya Fernandez's for years. Although Shazkya is an excellent…read morepiano performer, she is not the best teacher. She is atrocious at communication with her students as well as her student's parents. We have missed recitals, performances and even closed-door gradings. We have been embarrassed by this and it has affected my daughter's love of music. We have had entire Saturdays driving around all South Florida trying to find were Mrs. Fernandez told us (my daughter and I) a recital is taking place. We have missed performances she has worked on all year. Although Mrs. Fernandez is apologetic, there has been no improvement. Communication should be a priority for any teacher, but for Mrs. Fernandez it is not at all. She will also perform at the recitals she puts on for her students. I grew up in a home with multiple piano players and I have never seen the teacher perform at a recital. I cringe when she does this because it upstages the students. Recitals are meant to build the confidence of the child, instead she damages it. Overall, Mrs. Fernandez is a nice person and a great piano player, but if you want your up-and-coming piano player to perform well and love music, go elsewhere.
