Visited store today. Three or four employees there. No one even acknowledged our presence in the store, spoke to us, or ever asked if there was anything we needed help with. As we left store, employee walked past us, still no acknowledgement or even thanks for coming in to the store today. Probably the absolute worst customer experience I've ever had in a store , ever. Had planned to possibly buy a couple of instruments, but these folks didn't have a clue. read more

This company is very rude and condescending!! When trying to correct the credit card on file she proceeded to tell me it's easy to get a new card these days and also threatened me with theft. No care about their customers she stated could deal with another company or get one from the school once I told her how rude she was.The account was one payment behind because the card needed to be updated which is what I was doing at the time. Great experience buying our cello - upgrading bows - and purchasing piano music. All employees were helpful. I can't believe what a great deal our cello was! We have a new favorite music store! When my daughter's oboe needed repairs over the holidays, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they were able to examine it. Another local shop said it would be at least another week before they would be able to get to it, but Tracy invited us to bring it in before they were even open for the day. That is incredible customer service! When we arrived, Scott carefully examined the oboe and pointed out a missing bridge cork, and explained to my daughter how it likely occurred during assembly. They made an initial repair on the bridge cork, then had my daughter try it out to assess the impact of the other issues. I particularly liked how they wanted to determine if the other issues affected my daughter's playing instead of simply pushing for every conceivable repair to be made. We decided to have all of the issues (mostly worn corks) addressed and greatly appreciated the use of a loaner at a very reasonable price. Although we will still need rod work done, in all likelihood, we'll have the oboe back with everything repaired, before the other local shop would have gotten around to looking at it. We greatly appreciate Tracy and Scott's kind and courteous service as well as their professionalism. As I mentioned, we have a new favorite music store! read more

Very rude, and condescending. Rented a horn for our son for school, the valve sticks. Asked them to fix it by sending it off per my son's band instructors request. They said that they wouldn't, and that the instrument didn't need repairing. Three months later the valve still sticks. Very difficult to play. I'd recommend going somewhere else. read more

The store looks the part, smells the part, and has the parts that you need. However, there are certain staff members who have been there for years and they are so out of reality sometimes it's astonishing. They are disrespectful while giving very misleading advice that could seriously affect your musical career in a bad way. Do not take a tip from them seriously until you do research on it because half the time what they say is their own strange opinion. The only reason they're still in business is because of their location. If there was any other traditional music store like them in the Mauldin/Greenville area then they would've gone out of business already because among most students and parents it is common knowledge that the staff are very subpar. This is just a great music store with a great staff. After spending several days hanging out there. I saw the owner Tracy Leenman and her staff patiently spend an almost abnormal amount of time with their customers. From the cello student who came in for strings leaving with more information about stringing and maintaining the instrument to the flute student shopping for a new flute getting a free lesson by a working professional and people spending hours trying instruments with an attentive staff. Sometimes advice is only as good as ones ability to accept it. I saw nothing but a great selection from beginners to intermediate to professional not being upsold but being custom selected. What kind of company would repo an instrument from an 11 year old hands, during band class, in front of 30 other kids, leave the kid crying and say it isn't their problem? We had problems with a Flute we rented from another store and a friend suggested we go here and check them out. We were able to purchase a nicer, used flute for less then what we still owed on our rental. I was so pleased with the staff and instrument that we came back another time and bought a brand new step up flute. The owner did not push me to buy the most expensive Flute, but instead took time to help us find the price range and payment options that I could afford. She suggested we fit the Flute to the shape of my child's mouth, and have her play the same notes on each one. When we were finished I knew we had the best fit, best price, and I felt so much better knowing what I truly had invested in for my child. Now we only come here for supplies, private lessons, and other instruments! We love the whole staff! read more

I don't know much about string instruments, but I have learned that the staff at Musical Innovations knows how to help a young player (and a parent) find the right size, the right fit, and the right price on a quality step-up instrument. I agree with other comments that the owner comes across as very rude and condescending. I have had multiple experiences there in the last few years and have never had a pleasant one with her. The other employees have always be fine, however. Also, we have always waited several days if not over a week longer than quoted when sending the instrument out for repair or yearly maintenance. I have been renting from Musical Innovations for 3 years. The one time I have taken the instrument in for repairs not only do I get fussed at for it not being completely clean (my child was in 3rd grade and her instrument mostly stayed at school) they also had it for a MONTH. I had to call constantly to see why my child was going without her instrument with excuse after excuse. Flash forward to this past November. The card on the account was a joint account I shared with my ex husband. The account was closed and they REFUSED to take his card. Eventually they did finally take it after several months. Now all of a sudden AGAIN they are refusing to take his card. Catherine is extremely rude and unprofessional. She has called my cellphone, even texting my cellphone from a cellphone. Then today I get a call at my job - 30 seconds after they left a message on my cellphone. The line disconnected and I immediately called back to tell him to not call my job, but Catherine answers...and being VERY familiar with the situation...she offers to take a message instead of allowing me to tell the guy I spoke with to not call my job (who I can hear in the background whispering to her). So I tell her not to call my job and to call my child's dad for payment. Now, suddenly she "can't legally talk to him" about his childs account that bears the same last name and address on the card she has been using. So since she wont stop being condescending and rude I hang up on her on my work phone. She proceeds to immediately call my cellphone yet again and leave a nasty message threatening to have me charged with theft. What theft? The payment is 2 days late. Do NOT do business with these people!!! Nothing but a headache. read more

Very frustrated and disappointed! I exchanged my son's cello for a larger one spending close to $500. A WEEK later we get a call that we owe $70 more because his old "bow had a crack in it". We checked the cello and bow before we exchanged it and did not see a "crack". We bought two types of coverage for this cello but obviously the bow was not covered! I asked why it took them a week to find this "crack" and the employee said they are so busy that the instruments are "put in a room" until they are able to be checked. I asked him how he knew the damage did not occur while in the storage room/area??? He also gave me several causes for the cracked bow which all were the supposed fault of my son. The overall customer service has been poor and I am thinking my drive from Spartanburg has not been worth the time or gas money! Just a word to the wise...if you are returning or exchanging an instrument, have the employees check it while you are THERE at the store so you will not get a call sometime in the future about damage that may or may not even be your fault! I will not be recommending this music store to anyone! read more
