I recently bought a used tube amp from this store online and had it shipped to another state. First off, the amp was mislabeled on the site (the website listed it as a Fender Supersonic 22 but the picture was clearly an older Supersonic 60) and I had to call to clarify which it was. The first day I called, the person who answered didn't understand my question, said they would call me back, and never did. I called again two days later, finally got an answer, and made the purchase. When the amp arrived, the box was in absolutely terrible shape - barely sealed, full of holes, and partly crushed (see pics). Obviously some of that could have happened in transit. I hope it didn't leave the store like this. But a lot of that damage could have been prevented by actually packing the box properly. There was A TON of empty space inside. The amp was bubble wrapped, but the box was much larger than the amp. That empty space was not effectively padded, so the amp could easily roll around within the box. Against all odds, the amp still turned on, but it has severe tube rattle. I'm likely going to have to replace all the tubes. I'm guessing you guys don't typically sell amps in that state, so the tubes probably got busted in transit, which could have been prevented by putting a single sliver of a thought into how the box was packed. Anyway, I have no idea what this store is like if you go there in person but I STRONGLY recommend against getting something shipped from them. read more

THIS RATING SHOULD BE MINUS FIVE STARS. And this is why. We went to this store - The Guitar Center in Greenville, SC, with the intent of purchasing an expensive Yamaha keyboard we had previously chosen. However, the only attendant in sight was sitting at the entry desk on the phone chatting and laughing it up with someone. We looked around the store for a period of time, waiting patiently for his assistance. We then waited at the desk for assistance, but he was still on the phone chatting it up, and laughing. After waiting several minutes (and he saw us) we decided he didn't care. At this point we turned, and left the store. This employee should be fired. He doesn't deserve a job. Other times at this same store has been the same-no customer service due to telephone engagement. Their disregard for us as customers will be the last time. Why would we solicit this store in the future? Instead we will go to the Guitar Center in Asheville where we're treated like royalty. read more

I believe in second chances but this is a case of 3 strikes and GC is out. First, I brought my telecaster in to have the bridge pickup set. The tech drilled it in so low it drastically reduced the output for 2 of the 3 pickup switch settings. When I brought it back to tell him he said that it only reduced the output "a little" and did not offer to fix it. No apology. I asked the front desk person who the manager was. I was told it was the tech. Great. Secondly, I ordered a bass on the GC website but the tone knob did not work. The website said all returns/exchanges of online purchases could be taken to the customer's local store. I was given a replacement with very high action and a bowed neck. When I pointed this out, he said I could have it set up for $60 (with the same tech who wrecked my telecaster btw). After 45 minutes the manager (who wasn't the tech btw) came out and gave me some explanation about how they were going to make the exchange but normally they didn't honor the discount I got online because I did it on my own, I didn't have a coupon, and some other claptrap that didn't make any sense. Then he walked off. No smile, no introduction, no thanks for buying from GC. As if they were doing me a favor and I should be grateful. Luckily for me, GC still has local competitors. I was going to buy a Fender Jazz but I can go elsewhere. Even though they are the only Gibson dealer in town, I can get my Les Paul from their biggest online musical competitor. Unfortunately for me, I now have a Telecaster that is much worse off than when I brought it in, a brand new Precision bass with a bowed neck, and a sick, insulted feeling in my stomach for being treated with disrespect, even though I've spend thousands of dollars at GC. read more

I went there 2 weeks ago for the first time, and bought a $230 guitar. They were offering a 15% discount, which would have been around $30. When I was paying, the employee said the total was $247. I asked if that included the 15% discount, and he said "Yes". I knew something was wrong, so I went out to my car to look at the receipt. There was no 15% discount. I went back in, and another employee refunded me the 15% bringing the total to $207. I know mistakes happen, but what irritated me was that the first employee looked me right in the face and said YES when he clearly knew the discount had not been applied. But that's ok, it is the holidays and it was late at night, and the 2nd employee went above and beyond to correct everything. Tonight I went back and brought in a guitar that I've had for around 20 years. I was looking to upgrade and wanted to see what the trade in credit would be for my old guitar. I asked the man at the register if he would mind looking at my guitar and letting me know what the trade in value would be. He said YES he could do that, but first he had to help other customers in the store. There was no one else in line, which was a bit confusing, but I said "Ok no problem, take your time, I'll just go look around." After about 20 minutes, I walked back up to the counter and the manager was there this time. I asked him if he could look at my guitar for me. He looked me square in the eye and said "No I can't, I have to do Christmas stuff." Not understanding the definition of "Christmas Stuff", I asked what it meant. He said "Its Christmas time and I have to help other customers." Then he said he could help me if I came back on Monday at 1pm, which would be slightly difficult for a person who works during the day. I thanked him for his time, and apologized for interrupting his "Christmas Stuff." I take full responsibility for the entire interaction. It was my fault for being ignorant of the definition of "Christmas Stuff," Which I still don't understand clearly. I was a customer, there to make a purchase. But apparently there exists some sort of a discriminatory "Customer hierarchy" that I was clearly unaware of as well. He did say that "Everything is online" which I assume means that he would have to type some letters into a Google search engine to find out the value of my guitar upon which he would offer a trade in value. A 30 second process which I have already done twice. The correct response would have been "Sure I can do that for you, but it may take me a little while longer than usual as I have other customers to assist as well, but if you don't mind waiting, I'd be more than happy to help." To which I would have responded "Sure no problem, it will give me more time to pick out the new guitar I want." So not only did I walk out with all my money in my pocket, they also just lost a customer for life. Which stinks because now I'll have to drive further out of my way to go somewhere else. read more

Went there to purchase a keyboard. Had done all the research, including checking inventory on their website. Waited 30+ minutes, and couldn't get assistance from anyone. Came back a couple of hours later when the store wasn't so busy. Was able to get waited on this time, but the customer service is seriously lacking. The person we spoke with didn't seem at all knowledgeable about the keyboards, wasn't sure what was or was not in stock, and didn't make any effort to find out. The music was so loud in the back room, I asked if it could be turned down, since we had to yell back and forth to speak with the salesperson. Left without making a purchase. Guitar Center is clearly geared toward a younger customer audience. Went to Pecknel Music and had a completely different experience! Got the keyboard I wanted, and at a better price. Save yourself time (and headache), and go to Pecknel first. read more

Was in the store today to purchase my husband (62 years old) first electric guitar. Customer service was above and beyond. I'd give 10 stars if I could. We were treated very nicely even though we had poor Dylan (not Bob) running all over the store pulling everything together we wanted to get today. Dylan was AMAZING!! Very patient answering all of our questions, told us to call with any questions we might have down the road. It was just an overall wonderful experience. Its nice to see some businesses have not lost that personal customer service touch. This store will receive all of our business and we will be looking forward to working with them and Dylan more in the future. P.S. The only thing that kept me from giving them a 5 was the cluttered inventory out front. Not cluttered in an unkempt sort of way, cluttered in an excess inventory and the backroom is full sort of way. It's a short hop off I85 and 417 (Laurens road), or just down Roper Road if you're local in that area. Good luck and be patient with the listening rooms. Another yelp user complained that they were busy and noisy because of employees. I only found them busy and noisy with other players or sales assistants demo'ing guitars. I went on Friday, bought a guitar I was really undecided about, came back on Saturday and got the guitar I really wanted and everybody was happy. read more

After Guitar center had our equipment shipped from Florida, we went to the store to pick it up. But... The guys from FL didn't include a transformer with it (it was used gear, figures...). So the guys (Kevin from ops) scoured the store for a little while, and they found us one in their stock. They gave it to us, free of charge. And, we got to test the new piece with our gear in their sound sales room once again. Very helpful people. Very professional service. Quick shipping. Great price on our new piece. As usual, I go to check out one of the holiday sales events (Presidents' Day, on 2/18/13), only for them to be sold out of every single advertised sale item I wanted to purchase... some advice for whomever is in charge of ordering inventory there: you guys know what sells out every single event sale you have, so stock up accordingly. I already don't like going into the store anymore than I have to, mainly due to the attitude of some of the employees there, and if I didn't have a gift card I would not have today ( needless to say I still have my gift card, I didn't buy anything since what I wanted was sold out). It's a terrible waste of time and fuel to begin with, and adding to the insult is when someone tries to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't want after telling you that the things you came to pick up are not there. If you want HONEST customer service, RUN, don't walk, AWAY from the Guitar Center in Greenville. I purchased a keyboard, keyboard stand and amplifier for my son on 2/28/21. The salesman was trying to sell me two-year warranties on both the keyboard and the amplifier, which I am typically reluctant to buy as I find they are usually a waste of money. I asked what the manufacturer's warranty was on the keyboard (Williams brand), and he said there wasn't really one. My response was, "You mean you sell expensive electronic equipment, and the equipment doesn't come with a warranty?" He said, "It only has a warranty when you pull it out of the box - if anything is wrong with it when you unbox it, you can bring it back; otherwise, nothing is covered." So, I bought the $53.99 two-year warranty. Imagine my surprise when my son set up the keyboard at home and I found the warranty information inside the box- a one-year manufacturer's warranty for both parts and labor. I guess the salesman was so focused on the (probably) nice little commission he would make on that extra warranty sale and/or he thought I am stupid. I can understand when someone makes a mistake, but this was an outright lie, and I cannot abide being lied to. Therefore, my advice is to RUN, RUN, RUN, AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS STORE!!!!!! read more

A mixed bag experience. Location seems odd; in a sketchy 1980s-looking strip mall surrounded by a bunch of car dealerships off the beaten path. I would think a more exposed location like Woodruff Rd would be more appropriate since Greenville is no longer some tiny town. Because it is a small location, there is limited selection. That all aside, I found most of the staff to be friendly and willing to help. However, I made the trip out to try different keyboards to replace my 20 yr old synthesizer. I always keep the volume at a respectable level when testing keys, but found myself competing with a sales guy who decided that was the very moment he wanted to rock on another keyboard that was hooked up to a full speaker system. So good luck to him on his musical journey. As for me, I'll buy somewhere else. read more

I wound up not getting the Uke and didn't go back until today.
