The Boat House Cabin that we stayed in was right on the water, complete with its own dock and the views were gorgeous any time of the day, especially at sunset. The cabin itself was spacious, spotlessly cleaned, and beautifully designed with modern amenities such as a fully equipped kitchen and stunning washroom features. So many thoughtful details went into the design of the cabin from the pretty tiling, artwork in the bedrooms, types of plates, etc. The basket of goodies (Away Cabins water bottle and various snacks) was also a nice touch. We also enjoyed the many shared amenities on site such as the hot tub with stunning views of the lake, the communal fire pit, a variety of fun games in the shed, and water equipment like kayaks and pedal boats. The kind and welcoming hosts Debbie and Jason check in on guests during their stay and they honestly thought of everything for such a relaxing getaway! The Waddell is conveniently located a couple of minutes walk away from the Capitol Theatre, and overlook the Ganaraska River. The bedroom features a Queen sized bed, air conditioning, private bathrooms, complimentary high-speed internet, and in-room Keurig coffee. We checked into the hotel around 8:30 pm, and luckily we did it in the nick of time. Since it's a smaller hotel with no 24 hours reception desk, they do lock the doors at 9:45 pm. We took the elevator to the second floor, and was greeted with a cozy hotel room. The hotel was beautifully restored and each room features custom-built cherry or mahogany furnishings, and period features such as high ceilings and large windows. It's a boutique hotel, so the design has a very small-town charm to it. On the main floor is Trattoria Gusto, where they offer Italian cuisine in a beautiful historic setting. In the morning, they do offer breakfast for hotel guests (complimentary with some rooms). We actually dined at Trattoria Gusto back in 2012, but this was the first time we stayed overnight. They don't serve breakfasts to the public, but it's open for brunch, lunch and dinner. We both opted for the Gusto Breakfast ($11.50), which came with 2 eggs (any style), breakfast potatoes with roasted caponata, sausage or bacon, and toast. Overall, the breakfast was good except the bacon. It was incredibly hard and tastes crisper than chips. I loved how central The Waddell Hotel is to downtown Port Hope. We were able to walk to many of our destinations from the hotel, and got a great view of The Salmon Migration flowing in the Ganaraska River.

I'm assuming it's a pull-out couch? I love love love baths so read and relaxed for a while in it last night The room was big and I had lots of space. Parking was free as was WIFI (it was quick). I had a mini fridge, coffee machine and microwave oven in the room. There is a pub in the lobby and that's where I had supper last evening. It was nice not having to go far for a bite to eat. I'd stay here again.

The hotel wifi is blazing fast. As in, really fast. And it's because of this that I don't see myself picking another hotel in the area. I need to constantly work and the internet speed is important to me. The rooms that I stayed in were kept clean and scent-free as this is a non-smoking hotel. It's a few minutes drive to downtown, a cab ride away from the train station and a few minutes to waterfront. But not really far away from these places.

Though our particular room was tiny, it seemed that they do a lot with the small space you get, as you get a mini fridge, a microwave, and a good selection of satellite channels. As well, it appears to be one of the lowest priced if not the lowest priced motel in Peterborough, and we were lucky that there was a room available, even though we went in the shoulder season, just after school-age students had gone back to school. It is rather minimalist in the food and drink offerings (no vending machines for food and drink), but for I and my husband, we tend to bring our own food and drink, so it was not that critical for us.

From there checking in was seamless. Room was spacious and clean. The curated food menus for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinners are all great with many options to choose from. Enjoyed the steam room, cold plunge and thermal pools. Therapists were all top notch. What a difference when you stay at the main inn! Definitely looking forward to more visits in the future.

Extensive grounds with tranquility gardens and lots of walking paths. Day spa includes lunch and afternoon tea. Lovely big pool, plus a variety of hot and cold jacuzzis. Sauna in the locker room too. They have other yoga, meditation and other classes available for a fee. Lots of body treatments including massages and body scrubs. Meals were wonderful. Great place to decompress. Two minor annoyances - 1. Please do as they ask and put away the phones. It is distracting for other guests 2. Don't reserve chairs by the pool for a long time by leaving your belongings there. Some folks did it for over 3 hours while we were there. So not fair to other guests. Otherwise, a wonderful spot and great staff. Note - Do take your epi pen if you are allergic to bees/wasps. There are quite a few buzzing around the pool and gardens.

Very happy with the server we had the first and last time he was very good. Food was tasty and lots of it. My buddy and I have big appetites but our wives are tiny so there was more than enough to go around. Really hated having to put on our masks every time the server came to our table. No other restaurants we have visited in the last few months has required this and we go to a lot. Good social distancing and place is very clean. Got to visit just the weekend before lockdown
