Our room ended up in the annex section. Behind the hotel is open green space that I'm pretty sure belongs to the hotel, and backs onto the Otonabee River. It's very pretty and picturesque and I think a nice place for like an outdoor wedding. Our room itself was pretty standard. We had a queen bed, couch, coffee table, flat screen TV, microwave and small fridge. The bathroom is small and is just the toilet and bath tub. The sink is outside of the bathroom. There's a gym and a pool, neither of which were used by us. Lots of free parking. The breakfast area is nice. Since our stay was during the Covid-19 Pandemic (not our preferred time to travel, but our journey was ultimately for an interment), the hot food was served in "to-go" pre-packaged servings by an attendant (it was a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese on an English muffin when we were there). The attendant also serves you coffee and tea. Everything else is single serving individually wrapped and you can serve yourself with those (e.g bottled juice, yogurt, packaged pastries, granola bars, etc.). The dining room was open, with tables spaced out, but we opted to eat in our own room. I was satisfied with the Covid precautions. We paid around $120 a night. I would stay here again. Hopefully next time under happier circumstances, both personally and from a global health perspective.

There are rooms on the ground floor and in a two story building. Luckily, during both of our stays we were able to get a room in the building. During our last stay the owner even asked us if we prefer the first or second floor. The room had what we needed for a quick overnight stay (fridge, coffee maker, etc.). We were greeted warmly and welcomed each time and we would gladly return again!

Pinecrest cottages was originally a summer retreat and has been around for about 150 years ! at some point about 20 cottages were built. Currant owners Diego & Lynn have owned the property for about 6 years and have done extensive renovations to the buildings and water front area.We brought along our own boat and there was ample space at the dock, pinecrest also has plenty of rental boats of all sizes and free canoes and kayaks .The cottages were clean and comfortable with great vistas and sun sets. The fishing is great either by boat or just off the dock.The cost turned out to be less than we thought ! We enjoyed the night time fires and found the other guests to be friendly, some traveled quite a distance from areas in the U.S and one we spoke to have been visiting for over 25 years ! we had a great week and have pre booked for next year. Thankfully, the person at the front desk was able to apply the group discount for my group. On the day of check-in, I was not allowed to check in early. On a separate occasion, I asked to use their bathroom but was told that there was no bathroom on the main floor that I could use. Front desk was pretty efficient and got me my room keys very quickly. The lobby was quite plush but because it had snowed, it seemed difficult for them to keep the lobby clean and dry. The elevator is slow and the stairs are a bit confusing. The furniture as you come off the elevator is a little sparse and seems out of place, as we had a writing desk and chair when a couch may have suited us better. The corridor seems a little warn. The walls were cement blocks that were painted over in a dull yellow. Our room looked like it hadn't been renovated in forever but it did have a fireplace, which we couldn't get working. There were no instructions either. The beds were not comfortable. There is no view. The outlets didn't want to hold your plugs but for one night, we would manage. We did have a problem with our toilet because it couldn't stop filling the tank. When we called, we were advised that there was no maintenance person onsite on the weekends. So, we got moved to another room. We heard from others that one room leaked into the room below causing a flood. The second room was a lot nicer, it had a king sized bed and a pull out couch. No improvement in comfort though. Television had limited amount of stations, nothing really for children. Still no view. Wing chairs had seat covers on them. The room also had a mini-fridge and a microwave and a 2 person whirlpool, which we didn't use. The bathroom was definitely bigger and much nicer. This room would probably be suited for a romantic weekend for two. The breakfast room only had 3 tables, which wasn't a lot, so, I am not sure how they manage seating there. There is also a washroom on the main floor but it has a mop and a bucket in it. The business centre looked like a nice table with a computer on it. The breakfast was very continental, with toast, oatmeal, etc. So, don't expect a lot but it's enough to get you started. For the most part, I felt that this hotel is run down but the owners were trying very hard to be hoteliers.

The Boat House Cabin that we stayed in was right on the water, complete with its own dock and the views were gorgeous any time of the day, especially at sunset. The cabin itself was spacious, spotlessly cleaned, and beautifully designed with modern amenities such as a fully equipped kitchen and stunning washroom features. So many thoughtful details went into the design of the cabin from the pretty tiling, artwork in the bedrooms, types of plates, etc. The basket of goodies (Away Cabins water bottle and various snacks) was also a nice touch. We also enjoyed the many shared amenities on site such as the hot tub with stunning views of the lake, the communal fire pit, a variety of fun games in the shed, and water equipment like kayaks and pedal boats. The kind and welcoming hosts Debbie and Jason check in on guests during their stay and they honestly thought of everything for such a relaxing getaway! But sometimes you want a more relaxed experience. Fee's Landing is that place. The cottages are definitely rustic (honestly I think using the word resort in the name is a bit of a stretch) but comfortable. The website descriptions are pretty accurate so i won't waste space on that. There 5 cottages, shared paddle boats, kayaks and canoes. There are frequently lots of families and the kids enjoy running between the beach and play ground. As I said the cottages are rustic but obvious recent improvements such as recently built fire pits for each cottage. Bring a fishing rod...honestly I have no idea what type of fish...but the kids had hours of fun every day fishing off the dock the beach area is good but other than that the lake is pretty weedya

The property is very well maintained and taken care of with no sign of disrepair or complacency, very nicely laid out as well. The cottages are appointed with everything to make your stay as comfortable as can be. Amenities such as fully appointed kitchen, indoor fireplace, bbq, comfortable beds and furniture, sat tv, and of course wifi (that worked perfect). All you need to bring is your clothes and food and you're good to go. The cabins have a nice size deck that faces the water with a fire pit just steps away. There is also a small onsite store and you can rent watercraft to get out on the lake as well. The owner seemed genuinely concerned at making our stay enjoyable yet was not intrusive in the slightest way, very considerate. I would not hesitate to recommend Fees Landing to my friends and family without a fear of disappointing anyone and will go back in the near future.
