I'm doing research on gastronomy in Prague so it was a given that I would have to go visit this museum--I certainly wasn't disappointed!
This museum is a true depository of information. There's literally so much information about food as well as gastronomy that is unique to Prague. The museum exhibit is rather simple--lots of descriptions on fancy posters on the wall and life-size models of old kitchens and utensils. They really have a really impressive collection of old tools, kitchenware, silverware, etc. There're two floors. The bottom floor is focused on the history of gastronomy and what are ancestors consumed. As you go through the exhibit and it brings you to the modern day, it also goes a bit into the history of beer, spirit, and wine production. The upstairs is dedicated to utensils and famous chefs in food. They have a full-size modern kitchen upstairs where you can sample a small glass of mead which is apparently one of the oldest liquors.
Student tickets cost 140kc which is a really good deal. I really like the people who work there! They're super nice and I had a really good time chatting with the woman at the front desk. She's lovely as are the owners of the museum.
It seems like this place is really struggling to get some business which is a pity because I would be really sad to see this place go. There really is a ton of information and anyone can certainly learn a lot from this place. I would highly recommend! The whole exhibit probably takes about an hour to go through.
tldr; great museum with a lot of info and friendly staff, I love it! read more
