This is a really nice outing if you live in the area and have house guests, or even if you just want to enjoy a day outside but don't feel like lifting a finger. I've gone twice (afternoon cruises) and chosen the upper deck both times. If you or any of your guests have mobility concerns, be aware that there is a small and very narrow set of stairs to the top deck and patrons seem to rush to select their chairs. During boarding and disembarking is when the boat rocks the most, so be careful! Seating is first come first serve, and the seats are hard plastic folding chairs (i.e. no padding, which makes sense in case they get wet), but both times I've gone, the weather and the lake were calm and the ride was very smooth. Chairs are arranged in rows like a theater, so if you go with a date, you can't pair off from the crowd if that's what you are hoping. This is very much a family and friends type of outing. The captain narrates intermittently via speakers in an informative and sometimes humorous way, and it isn't at all obtrusive to conversation. Everyone politely stops talking to listen rather than trying to shout over the interesting details being shared, and now you have a new topic to discuss! People vacationing or living along the lakeshore wave cheerfully from their piers, decks, and yards as the boat cruises by, which adds an element of local charm to the outing. I haven't partaken of their packaged snacks, limited selection of mixed drinks, or beer, but all are available from the deck below. If you do go down the stairs to get something and are alone, you may lose your seat, as people are allowed to change locations throughout the ride, but no one is permitted to stand on the upper deck as a matter of safety (unless of course actively moving from one place to another). You can buy tickets at the boat or online, and there are discounts for AAA members and senior citizens. There is a famed ice cream shack near the boat launch that I haven't yet tried but reviews here on Yelp! are stellar. read more

Beautiful cruise around the harbor. Spanning 10 miles. Round trip 2 hours w dinner. Pricing is reasonable. Reservations recommended. This was my 3rd or 4rth trip. Food is very good not great. Buffet. Full liquor bar. This time around the dishes were filthy w caked on food. I cycled through about 6 plates before I found an acceptable one. Someone serves the roastbeef and it was barely luke warm because it was not over heat. Dessert is grocery store like cake. I believe I am done with further dinner cruises here but would go back for the noon cruise. read more

We went on a public narrated tour of Lake Sunapee on the MV Mt. Sunapee II, and it was pretty enjoyable. We were on the water for close to an hour and 45 minutes, went all around the lake, and listened to the friendly captain tell us all about the history, lore, and points of interest of the lake and surrounding area. Some of the narration was interesting, and while some of the stories got a little tiresome after a while, the captain did stop talking at some points to give us time to just enjoy the cruise. My boyfriend and I sat on the top deck, and it was a nice way to spend a beautiful summer afternoon. Tickets to this cruise are $20. We got our tickets as part of a LivingSocial deal when we stayed at a bed and breakfast nearby and probably wouldn't have bought tickets on our own, but we were glad we went on the cruise and had a good time. There were seats on both the upper level in the open and the lower level that was enclosed. There were some snacks and beverages (including beer and wine) for sale on the lower level. We didn't feel like walking all the way downstairs to buy drinks, but it was nice to have the option, and a lot of people on our cruise clearly took advantage of it because on our way out, we saw a lot of empty beer bottles. read more

Well, best description; like a church supper on a floating house trailer. Average age of attendee:103 We arrived on the dock for a small family gathering aboard the The Lake Queen, a rather grandiose moniker for this humble craft. The first thing we noticed was the geriatric crowd. Now I was expecting a more lively evening, reggae, cocktails on the deck, fun. But no, not a deck to gather on, no music but if there was it probably would have been Benny Goodman. The Captain, gruff and "sturdily-built", they was, matey, barked orders at us and we, naturally, obeyed. This wouldn't be the last command we would receive. After all, the authority of a Captain on their ship is Absolute! We headed out! Immediately it poured rain. We turned around and docked. Too dangerous we were told. Rest assured however we'll still feed you. My son in law was already ordering pizzas. The tables were very crowded but the children amused themselves by eating butter and tearing about the upper deck, much to the consternation of the guests and ire of Heir Capitan. So after the lower deck guests had their go at the buffet, we, finally, were next. We were lined up and herded downstairs to the buffet. Elegant? Appetizing? No, more like unidentifiable bins of lukewarm middle school cafeteria slop replete with The SchoolLunchLady slopping it out. "What is that dish?" I politely asked. "Vegetable lasagna " I was told. NOT!More like a combination of overly wet bread pudding and dog vomit. The buffet room was smaller than my half-bathroom. As I waited in line the ceiling let go and soaked me in a deluge of water from above. After avoiding eating back at our cramped kinder-table we asked to disembark this ruddy vessel and head for dry land. The Capitan barked, "You can't get off the boat,the gangplank isn't down." "Wouldn't you please be so kind as to put it down?" "You gotta wait!" We were told the boat would be going back out when the storm passed. Ah, yes, but alas, we certainly would not be. Yikes! Perhaps, I thought next I might be drawn and quartered or forced to walk the plank. We kept the children clear. Finally, thank Neptune, we were allowed to leave. read more

The captain kept us all well informed and the boat really nice , the wait staff was friendly and very professional , kelly and Andy waited our table and just made the experience wonderful !! Oh my gosh what fun! My husband and I spent the weekend in Hanover and decided to take the hour and a half cruise on Saturday afternoon. So glad we did! We had captain Cara and she was fabulous. She was a great narrator and was so knowledgeable about the lake. She also knew the kids who were regulars and who put on a show for the boat as it cruised by each day. She would blow her horn and ring her bell for them and wave and they just loved it. We had so much fun and the weather was perfect. What a beautiful lake and a beautiful day! The ship and the cruise have remained the same for decades (this is a good thing - you should not change a classic). I remember taking the same cruise in the early 1970s as a child. These days I take my children around Lake Sunapee on the same ship. The best part is the lake itself. Sunapee is the most beautiful, pristine lake I have ever seen. They almost always allow young children to take turns steering the ship. It is a relaxing, beautiful cruise. read more

We booked the cruise for a large group of people for a birthday cruise of mixed ages and had a great time with excellent food, drink and service by the staff. We were worried that it might be chilly on board but the boat was well heated and much roomier than it appeared. read more

We chose the dinner cruise without any idea what we were in for. So, for anyone else thinking of going, this is what we experienced... To start, I would recommend reservations. We happened to just stop by while they were setting up and there were seats available so we booked it right then. The cruise was full as far as I could tell so we just got lucky. The boat is small and older and that's part of the charm in my opinion. I've done the dinner train on Cape Cod and it was a similar cramped, narrow venue. The food is buffet style. Buffet is not normally my choice but the crew handled it perfectly, tables were accommodated very well. What really stands out was the crew. They were some of the most personable and easy going people you will encounter. The captain narrated in a low key, informative way. You never felt annoyed. The wait staff was super friendly. The cook (I think?) went to every table to chat. This is not 5 star dining, it's a laid back dinner on a tour around Lake Sunapee. Well worth your time. read more
