Any positive review previous to 2023 is probably accurate. They were a solid choice for cabinets…read moreand countertops. That was then, this is now:
1. Out of the three businesses shortlisted for complete kitchen renovation we chose Prestige (April 1st) as they promised to be completed by the end of July and that they would handle everything (electrical, plumbing, venting, etc.). It is now November 2nd and they still aren't done.
2. The initial quote for cabinets, countertops and sink was ~ $40,000. We agreed but, curiously, the subsequent contract was missing the countertops and was priced at $34,000 (so - $6K for the countertops?). We kept asking about the omission but were brushed off. Days before the expected countertop install they presented us with an invoice of over $14,000. Clearly, we were victims of bait-and-switch. We went elsewhere for the cabinets.
3. Our numerous questions about the delays were answered with "in two weeks" or not answered at all. There was a confusing myriad of voice mail, texts and emails, often contradictory. Three attempts were made to escalate our case to Prestige management in Summerside. The staff told us they weren't allowed to give out the head management's name (not making this up) but would leave a message. No call back ensued.
4. As bits of cabinetry started dribbling in at the beginning of October, they asked who we had arranged for the electrical, plumbing and range venting. We reminded them of their promises back in April to which they pointed out, coldly, it wasn't in the contract. Any verbal agreements we held were either discarded or there was no recollection.
5. To appear conciliatory, they said they could have an electrician there immediately. For a day's work (just plug rearrangement) the electrician presented us with a quote of $9800. The range hood guy proposed a vent solution that used flexible piping which doesn't meet code. Both were rejected and we had to, again, scramble for alternates.
6. With cabinets installed the appliance arrived. The fridge didn't fit, dishwasher didn't fit, lazy susan wouldn't function, corner drawers colliding, many features (listed in the contract) were missing and one cabinet mounted so high you couldn't use the handle. In hindsight we never did get an accurate drawing, just a child-like rendering with nothing to scale.
7. To their credit the installers really tried to reign in the chaos. It took 20+ visits to set things right.
8. An informed person, who shall remain anonymous, tells us Prestige has 16 more cases just like ours with some projects taking longer.
9. Clearly a respectable, island family run company has been hijacked by grifters and incompetents. Admittedly, there is a revenge component to this review. The main intent is to warn.
