The staff was amiable and went out of their way to accommodate guest needs. One day, I returned to my room to find a slice of birthday cake in my refrigerator(an unexpected and pleasant surprise). The rooms were well beyond what I would expect for such a reasonable price. I felt more like I was in a small condo than a hotel room. Our room had two spacious full bathrooms, a separate bedroom, two TVs, two balconies, a four-chair dining area, and a lovely kitchen with a full-size dishwasher. The view was without equal. You could see from the hills of Monchique to the beaches of Portimao and Alvor. Breathtaking!

It was spotless clean and everything you could wish for. The girls on reception all spoke perfect English and could not do enough for you. We are going again in October there is a big heated indoor pool and Jacuzzi as well as outdoor pools, so we will get our swimming in! Anyway, the hostel was cold! Not literally but in the cool kind of way, like, yo, that's cold. Which is interesting because cool/cold have similar meanings in both respects, so, whoever came up with that one, my hat is off to them (I also enjoy that expression). I spent most of the weekend figuring why they call the hostel this name and I finally found out it has something to do with a rooster waking up. I would have called this place 'good morning cock' to reduce any sort of confusion. I digress (I think), I liked most of the people here, except for, well, nobody, except, I didn't feel like going back to delete the earlier part of the sentence. I'm listening to Toosie Slide while I write this and I would really like the know what that means too (it might have something to do with Drake being Canadian - I think they call Canadians 'Toosies' but literally don't quote me). The Good: * The lobby, pool, buffet, bar and spa area are super nice * Many of, if not all, the staff were multilingual * Excellent facilities. There was a beach volleyball court, tennis court, indoor/outdoor pools, kids pool area, adequate gym, spa, etc. * Room and in-room wifi were solid The Eh: * Beach was across a street, then across rr tracks :-/ * Pool was frigid * One pool towel given per room, which had to be picked up/returned at the spa * The room and hallway color scheme was odd for a beach resort. I know this is strange to say, but an all black hallway and then blood red accents is just weird. Check the pics. * Electricity would turn off when you left the room. Charging electronics and keeping the room cool didn't happen * Bit of an older crowd (avg age 50+) The Bad: * The food. Wow was this poor. The pool bar had some of the worst food of my vacation.. and I got a salad and a turkey wrap aka things that are tough to fudge up. Breakfast (included with my room) was OK, but things were grossly undercooked and the most plentiful items were lunch meats (weird). Lunch/dinner should be a hard pass unless you enjoy a nice mix of bland meats and rice * No free water anywhere. Not in the lobby, gym, by the pool... Nowhere. Dropping 3-5 euro each time you want water is nuts. Considering they warn you not to drink the tap water, there should be other options available besides bottled water. The beer and wine is actually cheaper * No small towels available at/for the gym. Though there's a big sign on the wall to wipe down after you use a machine, I was instructed to bring down a room towel to do so. Double weird considering the gym is in the spa, which is FULL of towels. * The mini bar shouldn't be called a bar. It's a little fridge with 3 waters in it. So, it's a mixed bag here. Many of the problems above are easy to fix, so maybe changes will be made soon. Overall, come here if you have a family and want an all-inclusive experience in the area and don't really care to try the local cuisine. Don't come here as a solo traveler who likes to explore.

I booked through American Express, and there was no mention of any additional charge for a baby--especially since we didn't request an extra bed. However, the front desk initially said there would be a $35 fee, but they ended up charging $90 without a clear explanation. It felt like they were making up prices on the spot. Although this is supposed to be a 5-star hotel, there was no iron provided, and the hangers were of such poor quality that they almost ruined my silk dress. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. One more important note: My nephew's shoes were stolen while we were at the hotel's private beach. Please be extra cautious with your belongings. Keep your door locked at all times, and I would advise against requesting housekeeping during your stay.

The food in the main restaurant is good and a wide range of food which changes daily. But we were pleasantly surprised. Our unit looks just like the picture. Modern features. Roomy, airy with a private balcony. The unit that we are in, the Wi-Fi is spotty and there is no clothes dryer. But that appears to be common here. I am learning to use the clothes drying rack. The people in the reception area, Maria and Dimitri are very nice. And even though there is a language barrier, we all try to communicate.

They have a large lawn with plenty of lawn chairs and amazing views of the valley. The vila offers a quiet respite from busy travel. Rooms have large balconies w one lawn chair, heated floors, radio, tv with English, German or Portuguese channels. Bathrooms have stand up shower, heated towel rack. Breakfast is included and starts at 9. Sorry early risers. Massages are available on site. On a down side, we asked if we could move an additional lawn-chair onto the patio but we were told only one per room. Sorry but there were lots of unused chairs around and we were one of three guests on the entire property. Ridiculous rules get minus one star.
