Warning to parents about school's Hickory Ridge campus: On several occasions when our child was in…read morethe care of a classroom aide, particularly when the lead teacher was absent, our child came home visibly upset--this was unusual given how typically happy and loving our child is. Our child would often share concerning incidents involving the aide, such as being unfairly singled out, including having food taken away. The most alarming moment came when the aide told our child, "don't tell mommy and daddy" about something that happened, which caused fear and hesitation in sharing further. When we reported these issues to the administration, they dismissed our concerns and defended the aide's actions. After consulting both a pediatrician and a childhood psychologist, they both flagged the aide's behavior as a serious concern and advised us to remove our child from the school. Despite this, the school has yet to address the incident and continues to support and employ the aide. While there are wonderful teachers at this school, the administration's defense of harmful practices leads us to advise against enrolling your child here.

Welp, we were 15 days in, I had a concern, addressed it with her directly, and three days later, she pulls me into a room to tell me that her staff is "not licensed to diaper three years old" and that "they should be asking" (3 year olds)to go to the bathroom. She also stated that her staff was "scared" to help my son to the bathroom because he is "punching them in the face" and telling them "don't tell me what to do, or I will leave this center, go get my mom and have her slap you." Keep in mind, he is 3!!!! He can't even cognitively put together that sentence, and we don't speak like that in our home. He has been in daycare for 3 years, another center prior that abrupt left closed down, which when he was there, they LOVED HIM and never had any issues, outside of him telling them "no," but what three year old doesn't. When I asked her to advise me why her staffing issues, of having to take my son to the bathroom was even be a problem, as her staff and center are license for this, she asked me to leave. Well that was it, I took my son and left, she said "good, better for us." I have raised 6 kids in Columbia daycares and have NEVER experienced this kind of communication or human experience. I have many, many connections in the community, and should have referenced them prior, as others have heard similar stories with the owner. It's I called DHR IMMEDIATLY-they stated there is NO SUCH LICSENCE stating that certain staff cannot diaper or change 3 years old. Or that they have to use the potty and cannot be changed. So, this was verified a LIE, so what was her motive??? I am so flabbergasted!!! LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS!!!! DONT LET THE APPEARNCE FOOL YOU!!!!!!!!! I also walked into the room yesterday to pick up my child and one of the providers was screaming at a little girl, "DONT YOU BE TRIPPEN ME GIRL," when she noticed I was standing there, she quickly looked away. End of day teachers are rude, yell at the kids, and tell them "you better pick up your toys before leaving cuz we don't do that around here, we don't pick up after kids." I have heard this DAILY at pick up, in FRONT of parents, and they say it in a rude and nasty manner, eyeing up the parents, like we better not say anything. Don't get me wrong, yes, they should clean up after themselves, that's not my issue, its the way they spoke to the kids. Oh yeah, I was told when I was addressing the changing issues, that my son "needs to learn to adjust and that change was inevitable." This was DAY 3!!! I kindly asked them to have patience with him asking to use the potty , as he is trying to adjust to the new environment, and was told " what you dont think we do?" It was just one defensive, aggressive remark after the other by the owner. Bottom line: DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE, DONT LET THE APPEARANCE FOOL YOU, AND IF YOUR KID ISNT 100% POTTY TRAINED THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!! PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY!!! PLEASE!!! DONT PUT YOUR BABY OR FAMILY THROUGH THIS. I'm not usually one to YELP and hate social media but if I can save a child and their parents from a circus show and unneeded stress, then this is ALL worth it!

At the old daycare she would cry miserably when I left every morning. I felt awful leaving her like that and it was a terrible start to the day. I figured some separation anxiety was normal (she is now 13 months), and expected her to at least be a little upset when I left her at MKD, but in the month and a half that she's been there, there has been exactly one instance of her being just a little sad when I left. My daughter LOVES Miss Jenny and is excited to see her every morning. I just wish I could have started her here earlier! I'm surprised to see the negative review about the management. The director, Miss Mona, who started the school originally as an at home daycare, is super nice and attentive. I've never had a complaint, so I can't speak from experience, but I have a very hard time imagining her being unreasonable. The staff all seem to have a great sense of humor and like to have fun, but still take their work very seriously. The kids seem to have a lot of fun here. They spend a lot of time outside (when weather permits) and parents get a weekly printout of the activities for the week (all with a theme). If there's only one thing I could change it would be to get more information on what they're doing each day. Some daycares use systems that send messages and pictures to parents throughout the day, which obviously would add to the overall cost and far from essential, but kind of nice. It's a nut free environment if that's of interest to you. Overall, I'm really pleased with the daycare - especially for the price - and highly recommend it.

From the director, assistant director to the teachers, they make every possible effort to get to know your children and the parents and make you feel comfortable that you've put your child's life in their hands. Our son struggled at first (and admittedly, I did too), but the amazing teachers and staff went above and beyond to make sure we always knew what was going on--how their day went, what they ate, when they slept, and all other little details they feel you should know. We haven't looked back since!

Upon returning home, she showed me her hair and almost her entire braid was pulled out. I called the daycare immediately at 6:15pm and spoke to the director who stated "I don't know what happened. No one told me anything. ." This is the fifth incident in a year where my child has been a victim of neglect where someone either didn't know what happened or even it when it was too late. Once she ingested fish which she is allergic to, the second someone bit her finger, the third someone pulled dirt all over her to the point that she looked gray when I picked her up. At no instance was medical attention sought and I was notified either a day later, that evening upon pick up or not at all. In one instance the assistant director told me she called with an incident but my voicemail immediately came one. Way prior to that time I told them I worked as a therapist and I had to devices to be reached at and they had both numbers at the time of this incident. When asked why she didn't try the other number, she denied having it. However, upon pick up that evening she provided me with the sheet I filled out at the time of my daughter's registration, which had both numbers, to confirm the numbers on file. At which time I stated, I thought you only had one number to which she apologized. One time I went to get my child from the playground and no one could find her! Today was my last straw. I'm a single mom and full time business owner and depend on daycare for childcare. Despite the neglect, numerous times they've closed early, opened late or closed her classroom completely with little to no notice. I believe the center is too overpopulated for the current staff which leads to neglect and lack of care. They are allowing a child with severe behavioral issues to run rampant on the 3 year old room with no action being done. The director basically told me that my child, who's black, can leave. But the little boy, who's white can stay with no repercussions. He has autism and behavioral issues and needs to be in an inclusion center but nothing is being done.

We left the center with my oldest from 2022-2024 and my youngest, 2 yo was with her older sister at another center. Last summer/fall a lot of issues started with my youngest at the other Center and it was having a negative effect on her in multiple ways. We pulled her out and decided to return to Kindercare Elkridge and are so glad we did. Since the shutdown, management changed again and improved. Ms Christina was one of my oldests infant teachers so we already knew she cared about the kids and really knew her stuff. Ms Amanda is the new director and we love how she'd rather build the center back up slowly, even if it means keeping a few classrooms closed until she can find quality teachers, rather than rush to fill rooms with warm bodies. They're really trying to restore kindercare to its previous glory. And the 2s teachers Ms Heather and Ms Chelsea are fantastic. The issues my 2 yo was having at the other center have improved significantly and these teachers have really partnered with us to help her. But it's also clear they see and care about her as an individual. We couldn't ask for better teachers who understand this tough age and love and care about the kids like their own. She receives quality instruction in a nurturing environment and has even been branching out and trying new foods thanks to their provided lunches! For a little more money than we were paying at our previous center (where only snacks were provided and most were just processed carbs), now she gets breakfast, lunch and snack provided, with a lot of variety and they actually cook stuff on site. We're so glad we returned. It felt like coming back home.

We have had great experiences in all those years..... until the last two months. The director and the assistant director resigned to move on in the careers with in a few weeks or each other and subsequently and seemingly with out support from KinderCare corporate Teacher after teacher has been leaving the center and this evening when my wife arrived to pick my son up she was met by people from the state of Maryland telling her that the centers license has been revoked and they are being shut down. As of tomorrow we are with out daycare for the foreseeable future.
