Enjoying a perfectly sized boston cream pie donut and latte
    Alexis T.

Cannot say enough about the donuts here! I make a point to try "Boston Cream pie" donuts everywhere I go, and this was the BEST ONE IVE EVER HAD. The cream wasn't overly sweet and held its shape inside the donut. The chocolate layer on the outside was a hard shell, not a wet layer, so it didn't ooze off. And the dough was chewy and perfectly airy. (AKA the holes in the dough were not too close or too far apart.) They also make the best apple frittatas. So much apple in each one. Even the staff was amazing. All residents of other countries coming together to work in harmony and happy to talk with the tourists (like me.) They gave great suggestions, let us use their bathroom, and made a special design in my latte...when I challenged their skills. Seriously fun crew. And seriously good donuts.

Freaking amazingggggggg and expensive!! They have new flavors weekly. I tried the coffee with the cereal flakes. Omg....still dreaming of it . The donuts are soft yet crispy, the flavors are unique yet not too alarming to the taste buds. Fun place, quality goods!

There are many things to say about My Ugly Baby. Here they are in no specific order. - what a name. Why? I don't know. But after eating these donuts, I too became an ugly baby. An ugly food baby. - the staff were so nice. I always warn donut shops that I am a donut super nerd. Some staff respond in kind. Some staff look at me crazy and ask what sort of donut I want. These staff, however, were about as crazy as me. They even showed me the kitchen, and let me meet the head baker! - the baking operation is on point. They have a very wee kitchen that pumps out donuts like a machine. The head baker said 300 on a weekday, 900 on a weekend. I will spare you on the other nerdy details that I asked. - my donut was absolutely delicious. I had a raised donut with chocolate sauce (Moroccan, I was told) and smash (tortilla chips covered on chocolate and smashed up). What I loved about it - a perfect three layer. Light, fluffy donut; strong chocolate flavour; crunchy, salty contrast. Really so good! To be honest I was full and still gladly ate the whole thing. It was too good to pass up. - I've noticed with donut shops, design seems to be more important than quality of donut. Hipster sells; cruddy looking Italian bakery doesn't (despite being better). However, this place nails design & quality. They even had sparkling water on tap. Who has that?! So nice. -super pricey. Yes, Norway is well known for its pricey holidays; but even adjusting for that, I think a donut is capable of being pretty cheap. A donut SHOULD cost 1-2 £/$/€. Anything else is really an up charge, excluding speciality donuts (covered in bacon, vegan, etc). Five out of five. Great staff, great donuts, good coffee, well oiled baking machine. An Oslo must see for a yummy treat!

Saw this place when we were out and about but had a reservation we were trying to make so couldnt stop. Decided to come back the next day because the doughnuts looked so good and we were not disappointed!

Hello diabetus! I have tried the donuts a couple of time and I am sure I got a little bit of diabetus each time to be honest. However, totally worth it. But a whole donut is a lot, so for me, perfect to share. Great service! Good coffee! And yummy donuts. Location is good, staff is super chilled and friendly. Price - a bit expensive, but on the other hand, worth it. Check it out!

Same location, new name, different crew

The artist formerly known as Talor & Jørgen is now My Ugly Baby. Same location, different crew. And while Oslo might not be your first thought when you think delicious made-from-scratch donuts, these fluffy dough-bombs are as good as you'll find anywhere! Imaginative flavors include Salted Caramel Popcorn, Pastel Vanilla & Raspberry Pistachio along with more traditional offerings like Easter Boston Cream, Chocolate Glazed & Apple Fritter...all made on premise in their colorful kitchen. Oh, and they're known & quite proud of their roasted coffee too which they've set up membership for if you're fan. There's a cozy terrace out back with blankets where you can just ease into your morning with a tasty donut or three & pipping hot cup o' Joe. They're putting a lot of passion & love into their products, and it you can taste it!

It was easy to get to via the tram from our city centre hotel. There was already a small crowd inside as we navigated around. Italian, multiple burger joints, tapas were some of the busy spots that night. We decided on Helt Vilt with their wide selection of game meats from moose, reindeer, to boar to try some unique red meats. They also had a nice seating area that was available so we got the last table.. We ended up ordering the angry moose and wild boar burgers. The patties were a little over 5oz, juicy and lots of flavors from the meat and toppings. The angry moose burger also came with a nice kick mostly when biting down on the jalapeño slices. Both were filling but wouldn't have minded more meat considering these were each over US $20+. Service was just ok (maybe too busy) and we ended up walking to the front to close our tab.

I'd recommend taking a taxi instead. Once we arrived, we headed straight to Hopyard, where the beer and cider selection was excellent, offering good variety and a friendly, laid-back vibe. Then it was on to Helt Vilt for a moose burger, which definitely lived up to the hype. Mathallen gets lively later in the day, and seating can be a bit tight, but the energy is fun and welcoming. A great spot to sample Oslo's local food and drink scene.

Just say it was impressive from beginning to the end. It's a lot of course menu non stop for sure. First we were greet and sat at the couch where the pre appetizers were served. Then we were escorted to our table in the middle of the room overlooks the open kitchen, where you can see a dozen of chefs/sour chefs prepared the foods. Just say that all dishes are very appealing and well presented. Majority of dishes are definitely a hit and just couple are just unsure since my pallet didn't quite welcomed the dishes. Services are so high ended, very attentive and knowledgeable. I got wines & champagne to go with the course and it was fantastic. The place is modern, minimal decor but goes well with Nordic atmosphere and in certain way, warm. My kid enjoyed it quite a bit, with all dishes with 3 different desserts plus one for my birthday so he was over the moon. He gave it a 2 thumbs up for overall experiences. Definitely an event not to forget.

While traveling throughout Norway with my friends, I wanted to cap off the trip with a nice fine…read moredining restaurant in Oslo to really showcase what Scandinavian cuisine had to offer. Fortunately, we were able to make a reservation at Kontrast for dinner and see what a 2-Michelin star place was like in Norway. The interior decor is modern and upscale, giving a great vibe that I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The service was top-notch, with friendly service and detailed explanations of the dishes we would eat. One of the dishes that stood out to me during this meal was the duck liver brulee with sunflower seeds, a course that had rich, caramelized meaty flavor that was grounded by the nuttiness of the seeds. Another one that I enjoyed a lot was the grilled langoustine, a succulent piece of seafood with a charred exterior that really showcased the quality of their ingredients. I was also a big fan of the reindeer from Jotunheimen that came with beetroots from Dalen farm. My group originally had tried reindeer meat at a different restaurant earlier in the trip and didn't enjoy it that much since it was too gamey for us. However, this reindeer was much better in quality and filled with a lot of flavor while not being too overwhelming. Finally, the desserts of sea buckthorn with woodruff and blueberry with black koji were a great way to end the meal. The presentation of these dishes were well-executed, and the tartness of the dishes went well with the sweeter counterparts in each. Overall, although Kontrast is on the pricey side I enjoyed the experience and am glad I was able to sample the best of what Norway had to offer!
