It is WELL worth the price of admission! The books are on the counter, left of the admission counter, so be sure to ask for yours! On the third floor is a display of the SPACE AGE era in America (striving with Russia). It covered the subsequent 'rocket' designs of vacuum cleaners. I couldn't help it, I laughed out loud while reading it! :D What I found interesting ; -Elizabeth of Bavaria's traveling commode (and HOW it worked) -WWII field latrine -The daunting DUST Victorians faced, and the first vacuum invented (horse drawn) -the goofy statues made out of cleaning & vacuum cleaner parts -all the vintage advertising & appliances -the video on how to clean a bathroom in three minutes! In their gift shop, they have an interesting mix of toys, cleaning tools, and other goodies. I ended up buying handy-dandy toilet brushes for my friends! Won't they be SO pleased?! SWEET!

Small, but what do you expect for $5 adult admission ($1 for K-12)…read more The permanent exhibits are fossils and biological specimens from the area, including skeleton replicas of protoceratops, Utahraptor leg, sabertooth tiger, bison, etc. They also have anthropological pieces on the plains Indians (pottery, jewelry, arrows, etc). They had two special exhibits when I went. One was on the history of Native American service in the US military. The other exhibit, which I found most fascinating, was on Heliocoprion, a genus of extinct sharks with teeth in a buzzsaw pattern. Fossils of Helio species have been found from the Ural Mountains in Russia and across the Western US. Very, very cool.

As one negative review mentioned, it is set up for kids under age 8 or so, maybe even younger than that. But without a lot of older kids dominating the landscape, the younger kids are free to play. I think it's a positive thing, that it's so centered on the younger kids! I especially appreciate that it is as quiet as possible--no blaring noise from loudspeakers going on, just the noise of children happily playing. I also appreciate that it's not commercialized with lots of Disney characters or other kids' celebrities. Their castle is whatever the child wants it to be--not just a Disney castle. Overall a great place for little ones when it's too hot, windy or cold to go to a park.

There are several different sections on people history from the Native Americans through the founding of Idaho up to a few decades ago. There's a section with a darkened street on the first level with about 9 businesses from over a century ago making you immersed back in time. Yes, there are a handful of interactive areas for kids ranging from "shoot the mammoth" to a separate play area in a section that looks as if you'd lived 100 years ago.

Drove almost 4 hours to get there and then another 3+ hours to Boise to visit friends and flew home from there. Was it worth it? Well, we actually had a really great time! There was enough to keep us interested for a couple hours. Typical museum displays were supported by videos, some talking potatoes, even a cute Virtual Reality Tractor and some video games. After we went through the exhibits, we ended at the cafe and got a baked potato and some fries. You can have anything you want on them, so we got chili and cheese, sour cream, and bacon. The only sad part was that they were out of gnocchi. Lots of parking and there are some shops in the area. So, yes, we're really glad we went and recommend it if you're in the area.

Well, not this time! All jokes aside, this was a fun little wayside distraction, tucked away "in the back" of Blackfoot, but worth it for the kitsch and novelty of the whole thing. Our kids certainly loved it, particularly the potato family projection in the "basement" that narrates the harvesting and storing of potatoes; our three year old couldn't stop staring and laughing! In additions to displays, videos and dioramas detailing every potato fact you might ever want to know (and more), there's also a quaint little café at the back purveying all manner of potato products, from fries and other fried things, to the good ol' Irish Sundae (a baked 'tater dressed just how you like it), so you can get your carb load for the day in whatever form you desire! Admission is cheap (a few bucks per person), and a great way to kill some time, or break up the monotony of a road trip.

One of my favorite things there is the annual Beaux Cadeaux fine craft show during the holiday season. The spacious museum has three exhibiting halls, so it can accommodate three shows at one time and the staff is very friendly and helpful. TAM also has a room for kids to explore and learn (though temporarily closed for Covid) and has periodic family days when families can do hands on art projects.

This particular exhibit, featuring "Contemporary textile artists Lynne Rigby, Rosemary Ravsten and the group Artists with a Common Thread," was very interesting. The artwork is all made from fabric. I especially like Rosemary Ravsten--a pst resident of Idaho Falls who now lives in Seattle. Her piece entitled "Angel," made from frayed silk, was beautiful. The Eagle Rock Art Museum is a nice little building with three large exhibit halls featuring high ceilings and exceptional lighting. It's no MoMA, but it's a great cultural center in Idaho Falls, and if you're a supporter of the arts, it's the perfect place to frequent.

While I knew of Idaho National Laboratory, I was not familiar with this awesome free museum or our nations first nuclear reactor and the small town down the road that was the first to have all electricity supplied from a nuclear power plant! They have done an amazing job maintaining the reactor as a museum and have both a guided or self guided tour to enjoy learning a bit more about EBR-1. This is off the beaten path and I stumbled on it while I was going to see Craters of the Moon National Park. It was just a short way off the highway and couldn't pass up the opportunity to check it out, what's a little time when already well off the beaten path in this part of Idaho?! Small parking lot out front, bathrooms on second floor. There are a number of stairs to get to the top of the reactor and then down into the basement to check out the bottom to consider if traveling with limited mobility guests. If you are in the area, definitely worth checking out this bit of history!

You can download your own walking tour if you want to listen to the audio, which we did and found it very helpful. I would liken it to alcatraz's self -guided tour. I really appreciate it when they use storytelling to kind of bring locations to life. It's amazing how groundbreaking this place was in the development of a nuclear power and the exhibits are all really well put together in educational without being too scientific or overwhelming. It was really neat and informative and it is definitely worth a stop if you're passing through.
