Buyer beware! This was the cheapest test for mold in the home that I found. I've been suffering from strange symptoms consistent with mycotoxicosis and so I had the testing done on the home I lived in for fourteen years by Mycometrics. The test was about $400 total, but you pay $50 upfront for the test kit and the rest when the test is performed. They offer a free consultation for your results but charged me an additional $30 for a consultation because I missed their phone call for my first appointment for a consultation. I am very angry that I am being charged an additional $30 for a consultation I did not receive. At first,​ everything seemed okay with Mycometrics, I received my report promptly after submitting my completed test kit, which I liked. That's when my issues began. I opened the report and noted right away that there were a lot of different levels for a lot of different types of mold. They gave me a graph of the "Relative Moldiness Index Values" by the "Percent of Homes in U.S." This graph basically shows % of homes on the Y axis with a scale from 0-100 (lowest mold level to highest mold level), and Relative Molidness Index on the X axis, with a scale of -10-20. If you're confused by this, so was I. Is the Y axis % of homes or is it the mold level? Next, I cruised down to the results. On one side is the name of the mold. On the other side is a number. I have to assume that this must be the "Relative Moldness?" but the column is titled Spore E./mg. I looked through the report to try and find the definition of Spore E./mg and this is all it says, "Concentration is rounded to two significant digits. Concentration is in Spore E./sample if sample amount/area is NA. Spore E: spore equivalents: A spore equivalent may reflect the presence of any other fungal structures (i.e. mycelia) containing the same number of target genes as a spore." Did you understand that? Because I didn't. I do get that these numbers represent a concentration of each type of mold. What these concentrations actually mean is not given. There is literally zero information that goes along with this test. No explanations of the types of mold and what their relative concentration in your home means for your health. There is no information about acceptable versus toxic levels of these molds and so giving me a number that indicates the concentration does not tell me if the presence of these molds are at dangerous levels or not. So the report you get back is basically unreadable. I made an appointment to review my report with someone from the company. I called in initially and asked for help and was told quite rudely that I have to make an appointment. I asked how to do that and it's actually through their website. I made mine for today at 15:00 Eastern Standard Time. I live in Pacific Time Zone and so I thought that 15:00 EST or 3pm. When they called me at 12:30pm my time I was confused. You can't call them for your appointment. They have to call you and you have to answer. Since I missed the call there was no way for me to do my appointment. I went back to the website to make a new appointment and now they want to charge me $30 because I missed my appointment. Everyone told me labs like this are just out to make money off of you and I wanted to believe that this wasn't the case but I feel like I've been set up. First I get a report I cannot read because they don't give me all the information I need to understand the meaning of their test. Now I am under the distinct impression that this lab is just out to make money off of innocent people like myself who are searching for answers. They set me up by charging me a lot of money for a report I cannot read or even use for anything. My doctor cannot use this without more information. So what you are paying for is a piece of paper that literally means nothing because no one can read or understand how much mold is toxic. I assume that all molds are different and that some in small amounts could be deadly while it might take a lot of another mold to cause problems. For someone like me that was really hoping to find answers, I find only disappointment. I feel like calling in and paying $30 for another consultation may not even get me to a point where I understand what the report means. I fear that they will give me some information and demand more money for further information. It also negates my faith in this lab in its quest to help people. Health care should be about helping people find answers. These people are withholding answers and information in an attempt to garnish more money. I am not sure I can trust the results of a company that engages in this sort of practice. I feel I wasted my money and will now have to hire another lab to do this work. I'd rather pay more money for legitimate answers and not be messed with over $30 for a consultation I never received. I will add additional information if I do the consultation. read more

This was a simple and easy method of understanding why I have been so sick. A friend recommended this kit after the my partner and I moved into the apartment from HELL managed by one of owner Nir Sapir's many companies. We thought East Coast Management Solutions in Brooklyn was just sloppy. It turns out that many of the molds including black mold are present in high levels throughout our apartment. We are getting another independent company to verify these results, but find this paired with the phone call very helpful. I gave it a 4 bc you are required to use the phone call. However I suspect this is a federal oversight compliance portion and/or so the company can speak to the customer to explain the test. read more

Good test option if you suspect a mold issue or if you want to evaluate a place without having to invest in a professional inspector. Other reviews are negative but you have to understand that the results you get are not easy to interpret if you are new to this. Actually they are best evaluated by a medical professional educated in the topic. Mycometrics themselves can only give you some general information because there are a lot of variables involved. Also, the purpose of the test is not to reveal where the mold is so in case of a bad result, further investigation is needed by a qualified indoor environment specialist. This test is not an exact measurement, there is some variability involved, but it's a great starting point. This is the best option available for the money at the moment. Don't trust silly mold test kits from your local Home Depot and stuff like that. read more

Can't possibly recommend this company any more highly. Was under contract for a house in which we suspected there to be mold issues, and while waiting for test results, negotiations sped up. I called after hours and left a message, expecting to have my message returned the next day. Emily called me back within 10 minutes and helped me expedite my tests for the next morning. When I received the tests the next morning (an hour earlier than promised), I needed some guidance on the results quickly but the next analyst appointment wasn't available until the following afternoon. I called Emily back, and she was able to put me through to an analyst immediately. Without Mycometrics and Emily's help, we might have made a massive mistake with our home purchase. If you have any question whatsoever about mold in a house you own or are looking to purchase, use Mycometrics -- they provide accurate results, give you extremely helpful analysis, and truly go above and beyond in providing customer service. read more
