I was one of the venders at this yearly festival. I saw their advertising in Craig's list and…read moreinquired about it. I was contacted very promptly by the organizers. One of the reasons that I wanted to participate in this event was that I'm new here and need to promote my work in the area. The fact that it cost very little to be a vender helped very much. The organizer Carol was on top of everything very well. I was kept very well informed with all that was going on. This was a wonderful festival, they had pony rids, train ride, pumpkin decorating and many more activity. There was a stage with people of all ages first to exhibit their talent with dancing then musicians of all kind. Having the weather being absolutely awesome was the bonus for the day. My only regret was my daughter is now fully grown and I couldn't share the activities with her. I'm very happy to have participated in this fair. I met many people who stopped by to first see what I was showcasing then to meet me. A big hooray for Carol and all the volunteers of this town.

She spoke to me in the common area. She was very rude and hostile. She made comments about the coat that I was wearing. She was completely unprofessional. She gave me false information regarding my housing situation. Thankfully, I was able to speak with a different housing resource that provided me with the proper advice and guidance.

As workers, we were the friendly faces that greeted each and every resident as I was a full time overnight worker who was there 4 out 7 nights a week. Unfortunately I had an accident at my primary job in which I broke my foot and four toes so climbing several flights of stairs wasn't feasible. In the evening( overnight) I am alone and I would not put families in jeopardy just so I could work as I couldn't get to them had there been an emergency ( such as severe sickness, flood, argument/ altercation or even fire). Safety should always be number one. I was on family leave so I should have been covered but no. I am an employee at will, I guess. So 18 years of employment amounted to nothing as I was called to ask when I could come back to work. I clearly stated in two weeks but I was told I was fired over the phone. I was not even given the decency of a formal meeting. In fact, I didn t even know the CEO Laura Rosi was the CEO of the company. She had been in this position for 7 months prior to me getting fired. I had called Ms Rosi to discuss things thinking I was speaking to a supervisor when in fact she was the CEO. Ms Rosi said to me, I advised them not to fire you. After all you have helped to raise money for the company. Oh I failed to mention that in the summer of 2019 Housing Families was going through a rough patch financially. So what did I do being the dedicated employee that I was. I told all my friends to go support the company by going to their fundraiser. I was on crutches in an air cast and I still went to the Dockside in Wakefield but just a month later I am fired. Not even the board cared about me losing my job as they referred me back to Ms. Rosi. About a month later, I received a letter in the mail saying that I was rehired for relief. Wow they were all heart, not. So after being an 18 year employee with full time benefits/hours, I was now relief. They have never called me again as even relief. That's was their way of protecting themselves. Basically, they kicked me in the teeth when I was down. Ms. Rosi the CEO never fired me but on the contrary, she got a worker named Augustine to do her dirty work. I was lead to believe that Augustine was the CEO when in fact it was Ms Rosi. I was informed by the board after I was fired unjustly over the phone. All I can say is best of luck to you if you choose to go to work for this employer because they don't care about their employees. They treat people like dirt. When they are done with you, they are done. In the 18 years I was there I feel that I did great things for all of the families in Revere, Malden, Everett and Medford. I am proud of all of my accomplishments while being employed or them but the company itself leaves a sour taste in my mouth as I didn t deserve the treatment I received. Please keep this in mind when donating, supporting or even working for this company as it leaves its employees out in the cold not caring about their families. Also I witnessed theft while I was there. A supervisor was literally stealing from the families and when I questioned this I was brushed off. Said incentives for residents were never offered to residents ever again when I was there because this supervisor was pocketing them. This employee is still employee so beware because she is probably up to her same old tricks. You don t have to believe me. Witness it for yourself by working there. Keep your eyes and ears open as I am sure you will gradually see what I am talking about. I have nothing to benefit from this post as I had stated I have not been called in almost two years. Nor do I ever want my job back there. If anything I feel sorry for the families as they don t realize the goings on there. Best of luck, just beware!!!! I gave the company one star because it wouldn't allow me to give it zero stars unfortunately because that is what it should get.

Melrose is the first in the U.S., funded by Hallmark Health, a not-for-profit medical system.The Café has been shown by gathered data to increase mothers' success meeting their goals for breastfeeding their babies. The Baby Cafe is a place where pregnant and breastfeeding moms can come together and receive free support from other members of the community, including IBCLCs. With set hours every week, this is a place that moms know they can go to get emotional and technical support for breastfeeding. There are just so many good things to say about this place that I'm not sure where to start…read more First, it is not a "shelter" in the typical sense of the word, and the staff and guests do not refer to it as a "shelter". They consider themselves a "community", and act as such. There are NO lines for anything at the WLP. The women are served their meals at their tables by volunteers, and their materials are bussed for them once they are done, unless they choose to self-bus. The food. Oh heavens! WLP prides itself on serving nourishing, FRESH food. Each meal will have all nutritional requirements met, and there is always a veggie option. We're not talking canned goods or sandwiches here, folks. No, this is chopped and diced fresh veggies, prime cut meats, the finest ingredients. If you're a good cook and after you've volunteered a few times, they are happy to let you get in the kitchen and help whip up stuff. The resident chef there, Gina, is wonderfully creative in the kitchen (and very nice), and from time to time, other professional chefs from local restaurants come in to put together a meal. The WLP isn't jsut a food place, although that's the highlight of the day. It also provides the women with full time advocacy support to help with finding housing, food, or other services. There is a computer room/resource room that the ladies may use. There is also a nap room where women can go to get sometimes some much needed rest, and also a quiet room for just some peace, solitude, and maybe reading or reflecting. Women are also able to get various toiletries and clothing that they may need. They may do their laundry and take showers. The Program Manager, Heather (also very, very nice and competent) has done a great job of making sure that there are interesting activities for guests if they choose to participate: yoga, painting, field trips, knitting, etc. Since the WLP is run as a "community", the staff are INCREDIBLY patient with the women, and if a guest is being disorderly or breaking a rule, she is not immediately tossed out, but is counseled and given more than one opportunity to redeem herself by correcting her behavior. Throwing someone out is a last option at the WLP. WLP treats its volunteers as the valuable commodity we are. We are appreciated, thanked, and made to feel a part of the "team". Added Perk: They also have really incredible volunteer thank you events! I enjoy volunteering here. I learn something new and meet new people each time I go. I don't have a lot of spare time to volunteer, but when I do, the WLP gets me all the time, every time. It's important to know that this place could not be so great without us- the community at large supporting it through donations, volunteering, contributions, etc. The staff, Regina, Linda, Joanna, Lauren, Linnie, and Cheryl are terrific- go meet them! This is just a wonderful, wonderful place. You will not leave here without your heart being touched in some way.

There's a lot of older/vintage type clothing here so if you're into that like I am, you can have a lot of fun finding new pieces for your wardrobe. Tip: the jacket area in the men's section can sometimes have women's jackets mixed in, so take a look and don't be too hung up over the labling of sections of the store. Look all over! You can find some real gems here if you are willing to sift through racks upon racks of clothing. Also, make sure to get a rewards card if you come here often!

It's such a shame because people drop off, hoping their items can help generate money for a community organization that helps so many. It's not very good. Stewardship of people's donated property to let it get trashed and broken and spread out. It's hazardous and a community health issue. I have seen people rummaging through bags left on the donation deck at night and just obliterating mess left for volunteers on Monday. And there's no cleanup in the parking lot! They need to be gated and closed off after hours

The third time this happened I saw there was a number on the note and when I called it the guy came quickly. I also wish that they could tell me how much an item costs to alter ahead of time- I was told the company that does the alterations tells them the price after the items are done. This makes sense for a suit or wedding dress but not a basic hemming of pants. Luckily the price was reasonable but if it wasn't I would have to pay anyways..

They…read moreoffer very low-cost English classes to immigrants, as well as various youth programs, including an interpreter training program for bilingual kids that have often grown up interpreting for their parents. They provide monthly training for the volunteer teachers and regular community events, including an annual fundraiser called Yum! that highlights local immigrant-owned restaurants. The Welcome Project is a great community that I'd recommend for students and volunteers alike.

Back then, they stupidly had a huge men's locker room on one floor, and a similarly huge boys' locker room on another floor---and I'm assuming, ditto for a women's and a girls' LR. In other words, huge waste of space, since all the actual workout space was crammed into a claustrophobic cellar space with low 8ft ceilings, and the equipment was pretty old and fairly rickety. NOW, however, they've combined the locker rooms and have a palatial high ceilinged 2nd floor workout space with excellent and all new equipment including something I had never seen in a Y before: Concept ski ergs! (Google it if you have no idea what I'm talking about.) Said equipment is not all that intelligently laid out, though---but compared to how it used to be, no complaints here! Locker room looks pretty much the same but the showers and restroom are nicely redone. Not so crazy about their cardio equipment, though. All their stationary bikes are the geriatric recumbent ones, with only one ancient Keiser on the floor. They have Precor treadmills and ellipticals that have nice big screens with the wonderful "interactive terrains" similar to Life Fitness's current models found at other Ys---but unlike the LF machines, these Precor machines' video screens are buggy as hell, constantly freezing up and having to be reset within 15 minutes of starting your workout! Also, the one and only (coed) sauna they have, while being brand new and beautiful, sitting right next to the pool, BUT---is uselessly weak. Even on the highest settings, it feels like it only gets to maybe 160F tops. Nothing like the Cambridge Y's sauna which is around a divine 200F, or the Malden Y and Waltham Y's saunas which are closer to a still-passable 180F. I suppose it's meant more for people who just want to dry out after swimming, not for anyone who wants to really SWEAT, which is the whole purpose of a sauna. A good thing about this Y is that it's one of the all too few that stays open until 9pm on Fridays. Sadly, on Saturdays and Sundays they close at a lousy 4pm, just like the Cambridge Y.

My experience at this YMCA is that the staff are receptive to any concerns and will work with their members to find an amicable solution.
