However, I discovered much more than I was expecting to see! My dad was molested by another resident! I almost got sick while watching it! Ironically, this woman was constantly trying to be with my dad - who is married to my mom - but they told me it was the other way around, and that my dad was the initiator. They also found this woman in my dad's bed at least once, and I saw a second time that she was in his bed. One evening I was there late, around 9:00 pm, and this same woman was wondering around. I found the three caregivers sitting and watching the Celtics game on t.v. I asked them if they could escort this woman to her room, and they just looked at me. I then had to ask them again with a little bit of a tone, and finally someone got up. I saw via Nest that one evening that not one came to my dad's room to take my dad to dinner, and did not bring him anything to eat in his room, so I had to rush out and bring him some food. They said that they asked him, but the camera did not show anyone hours before dinner in his room. Another evening I was there very late, around 11 p.m., and the late staff was working. They have only two people on the floor overnight to watch the entire side. The two women were sitting by the fish tank and talking. When I asked them if they could keep an eye on my dad to make sure he doesn't wander at night, they responded, "We can't watch just him. We have some residents that need both of us to lift them and help them." WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THERE WAS A FIRE AT NIGHT??!!! One early morning when I was visiting my dad, the staff forgot to open the doors so that the residents could go to breakfast. They were all waiting by the doors. After 45 minutes, I went to the front desk to find out what was going on. I was told that they "forgot." How many other times did they forget when no one was watching? During the meals they are understaffed because the caregivers are too busy feeding the residents who need acute care. The "able" residents were often left to their own devices. I had to step in several times and pour juice or milk for the able residents, clear their plates and give the dessert. Via the Nest I checked mid-morning to see how my dad was doing because he wasn't feeling well. I saw two caregivers trying to pick out some clothes for him to wear, and they pulled out some shorts and laughed - it was December! Instead they just left him in a chair in his underwear. They did not even look in his dresser drawers where there were several pairs of pants and sweat pants. When my dad wasn't feeling well, and vomited in his bed. The staff threw his soiled sheets and comforter on the floor of his closet, and never washed them. I had to take the home and wash them. The "caregivers" are not caring or nurturing at all. The don't even like to touch them. Many times I saw them dragging a resident by the sleeve! Other facilities at least hold the residents' hand when they are guiding them. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IN JUST ONE MONTH!!! I had to move my dad out of Atrium at Veronica Drive because is was too dangerous! I shared all of the above issues to the director, who is very nice, and she always showed concern, but I don't know how much of her concerned reaction was to appease me. The head of nurses always made every situation sound like it was either my dad's fault or that I did not fully understand the situations. She was wrong on both points. I think this head nurse did not always tell the director exactly what was happening in the facility. THE ATRIUM AT VERONICA DRIVE WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!!

I'm giving three stars, the care by the nursing staff ie two of the nurses was wonderful (Lorna and…read moreDenise) there was another nurse that was awful and when my mom was dying she was so rough with her and almost choked her with medication, but I digress. Let me start at the beginning. We looked at this location for my mom because she needed more care than we were able to give her at home anymore, it all seemed like a great fit, the woman that gave us the tour was wonderful and kind, unfortunately she hit ill and they let her go. One thing that I cannot say enough about is the activities department! If not for them I would have taken my mom out, they kept my mom busy and entertainment for the last six months of her life. Jacinda the director should open her own business! I have so many items that my mother made that are beautiful and I will cherish them forever. Let me get to the negative about this company. The management is truly awful, I won't go into too many specifics but I know that karma will have her way with these folks. I will start with the family is supposed to get together with a manager and get a 30 and 60 day review of how their loved one is doing, Jack the manager had to change the date, ok fine but when I went in on the date he changed it to he started yelling at me (the customer paying 9k a month) saying he was too busy! There is a nurse case manager who oversees the nursing staff, unbeknownst to me I don't even think she's an RN, that I caught in a bunch of lies about my mother falling, which ultimately resulted in her death. I had asked to see the video to see my moms fall and was given the runaround how Jack couldn't find it on the film (what??? Why do you have cameras then?) my mom was in hospice care and did not have a long outlook but this definitely rushed her process along. I could go into many more stories, something that really left a bad taste in my mouth? They sent me a bill after my mom had passed away, keep in mind, this is a 50 bed facility, not a huge corporation! My mom had been gone over five weeks now, I'm still awaiting the refund I was promised three weeks ago, the management doesn't care about their clients whatsoever, it's all about the money, thank goodness for Lorna, Denise and Jacinda!

It's been a year…read moreof processing the death of my healthy, cognizant mom after being placed at Putnam, ultimately against her wishes. Certain family members decided her fate after selling their out of state home and moving to Massachusetts. They helped sell her Salem condo and purchased a spacious and cushy Hamilton home with the help of mom's money and promised to care for her till she was medically challenged. After 6 years of housing and co-existing with her in this lovely home, and what appears to have been a blatant 5 year waiting period to clear a certain familiar 'Look-Back' legal hurdle, they dropped a bomb on my 92 year old mom and decided they could no longer care for her. They placed a shocked, terrified, and betrayed elderly parent in Putman Farm, assuring her she was in excellent care. My Mom vehemently protested the first week of placement and demanded she be released. Unfortunately she gave Power of Attorney and Health Care Proxy to this daughter and that sealed her fate. My sister & her husband essentially legally dissolved her right to live in her home and place of residence based on certain claims that included she was losing her memory. Mom was alert, mobile, and cared for herself hygienically and needed no assistance. Having arthritis, my sister was unwilling and incapable of no longer caring for her. The house was cleaned professionally, and my sister made her husband and mom's meals, food shopped and drove mom to her yearly doctor and eye appts. even with arthritis. They had the Director of Putman visit for an evaluation prior to placement. Putman obtained an elderly vulnerable signature from her and she was placed in mid February of 2024. After placement, immediate emotional agony, anger and depression set in. She reduced her eating. Though visited by family members, loneliness developed amongst a sea of smiling unfamiliar faces. Mom was deeply unhappy and expressed it. Alleged incidents of staff entering her room at night rummaging through her bed side draws, or curt remarks from certain staff members were disclosed. One morning, approx. 4 months later, on or around June 22nd, my mom entered the walk-in shower alone, and ironically 'unassisted' in a studio apartment in the facility. She slipped and fell, smashed her head open and fell back and fractured or broke her spine. How she was found or the extent or her injuries were never revealed to me. She landed in the hospital and died one week later. This will be added to a Mother's Day memory of my dear and valued Mom. And oh, that cushy Hamilton house? It has gained nearly a 51% increase in value. As for assisted living, hosing down in the outdoor garden might be safer (if they have one). At least there's a chance someone might see you and assist. Happy Mothers Day.

When they were in their 70s looked quite young and we were all concerned that there were a lot of old people! Now that they are in late 80s, they are the common age, and they have lots of friends over 100! Everything is good here: food, service, staff - best thing is that they are safe and on storms and during pandemics the kids don't have to worry at all. They have generators when the power goes out - once we had to go there because they were the only ones with power! During covid Brooksby did a pretty good job at so many things: they went door to door with the first vaccination before anyone was getting out at all. I couldn't visit, but I could bring things to the gate for my folks on designated days. My issues with Brooksby? In addition to the down payment, you pay monthly to get the meals you want (30 a month or more or less) and that amt they originally paid for the 2 of them in a small 2 bed 1.5 bath has almost doubled in 12 years. Not expected. I will say the best, is that when you pull the chord for emergency help - they are there in a heartbeat and the people are wonderful! Also, they hire high schoolers to serve food, and they are always wonderful. I Love that they also give the kids scholarships. Overall great - if you don't mind the money increases.

I had asked my brother-in-law if he would like me to be his advocate. He thought that would be great and appreciated my suggestion. I live on the West Coast and of course Brooksby is on the East Coast. I knew that because of HEPA laws staff are not supposed to talk to family members without written permission or consent form. I called their case manager and my brother-in-law's nurse over 15 times in one week and left voice messages. NO ONE CALLED ME BACK! When I finally reached someone in the administration office, I explained the situation and asked if she would please call me back either way to let me know what's going on. I STILL have not heard from anyone. Although I live 3000 miles away, I am the closest relative that still has cognitive abilities. All three of my younger sisters have Alzheimer's. I was hospitalized with shortness of breath which doctors thought I had a heart attack on top of a bad case of bronchitis. The cardiologist performed a cardiac catheterization and told me that my heart was "great." He asked if I had been under stress and diagnosed me with broken heart syndrome due to the stress I had caused by the total lack of communication between Brooksby regarding my family members and myself. NO ONE YET HAS CALLED ME BACK! It's been about 4-6 weeks. My family pay an exorbitant amount of money and Brooksby cannot return a phone call? Family care is good healthcare. I would not recommend Brooksby to anyone considering putting themselves or a loved one in that facility.

Diana then stayed with my cousin until she could arrange for Aberdeen caregivers to stay with her 24/7 until the health crisis passed. I appreciate that it was not easy to find caregivers on such short notice, and am grateful to those kind caregivers who rearranged their schedules during this busy holiday season just to be with my cousin. I'm a paraplegic and need to be repositioned every 2 hrs while in bed and if I dont scream their name to wake them up they'll sleep through the whole shift. Someone staying at my mothers, had to wake up and then go wake up the staff, physically shaking them awake a minimum of 5 different times. When I reported this to company they assured me they would not send the same person again, yet they did! As it continued to happen, I called the owner, Chris Littlefield and complained. He offered me two free nights, even though I was terminating their services so that we would end on good terms. I accepted the two nights. On my mother's next credit card bill there was a bill for a night of service. Chris then denied he had offered me two nights! He told me regardless, that he would have it removed from her credit card. He did and then three days later, they re-billed my mothers card! In addition to these issues, we had nights were no one showed up for their shifts, came late to their shift and left early. My mother's health and safety was at risk, while this agency was responsible for her. I would never use them again.
