Beautiful hotel
David F.

We stayed here for one night prior to our scheduled River cruise the following day. Unlike some other reviewers we did not luck out with an early check-in, arriving at 11 AM after a long flight from California. So after going through our luggage in the lobby to extract suitable attire for a cold rainy day, we stowed our luggage until check in time and wondered around Amsterdam. The location was close to where our boat would dock, and the Canal cruises and city center were walkable, 15 to 20 minutes away. Other areas, like the Anne Frank museum and the 9 Streets required a taxi ride (we didn't have time to figure out the tram system). Finally checking in, we found a lovely room with an expansive view of the harbor. The room was ideal: comfortable bed, large bathroom, coffee service - everything we needed. The modern shower could've used an instruction manual - any tweaks resulted in ice cold water! We figured out if we just turned it on and didn't change anything the heat level was acceptable. We had upgraded for the breakfast option, which was well worth it. European hotel breakfasts definitely put America to shame - this was basically a restaurant Sunday brunch buffet equivalent. About the service: really exemplary. Everyone we interacted with were friendly, english-proficient, and happy to answer any question or resolve any problem with a smile. The contrast with our accustomed service at U.S. hotels was striking. We definitely would return here on any future visit to Amsterdam.

This hotel was perfect for our needs. We were taking a river cruise, so therefore we could walk to the dock when it was time to board. What blew my mind with gratitude (don't know if this was a Viking cruise thing...) was when we checked in at 10:30 a.m. after flying all night they gave us a room. If you've ever flown internationally and had to store your bags then wander around with wicked jet lag you know how huge that is! The room was standard but a nice size. I felt like the breakfast buffet had a lot to offer, including an omelette station. All was good quality. It's about a fifteen minute walk to the Centraal Station and the beginning of things to see. It's much easier to cross the main road at the hotel and jump on a tram. The trams will easily take you all over Amsterdam - just buy the pass you need for the hour, day, week, etc. If I ever come back to this beautiful city I'd stay here again.

Our view fm 6th floor. Checked in at 7pm left at 11am next day so never really looked. Good location to meet cruise ships.

We stayed here one night prior to starting our river cruise. Long walk to city center or you can try getting the train or buses that drive nearby. Limited evening meal menu much better for breakfast buffet. Look at my photos to operate toilet and shower. Unimpressive skyline view but we weren't here long enough to even notice.

This was a very nice and accommodating hotel. Diane and I were furnished with a room two hours before check in time, after arriving in the early a.m. from our all-night non-stop KLM flight from LAX. The bar provided a silver bucket of ice without charge. A current adapter was furnished by the front desk. Concierges provided helpful dining, attraction, and city transportation information. And the hotel even made available for me its two hot saunas and soothing relaxation room beyond closing time, which extended slightly past midnight one evening. Pre-planned daily activities prevented us from sampling any of the hotel's food offerings. But our Classic King Bed room was nicely furnished, with a sweeping view of the river right next door to the passenger cruise terminal, which was certainly convenient when we boarded Holland America Line's newest ship, the Nieuw Statendam, bound for Norway and the Arctic Circle three days later. All staff encountered were friendly and helpful, and our bed quite comfortable. I would definitely stay here again when revisiting fun-filled and cosmopolitan Amsterdam.

Two day No housekeeping

Terrible Hotel - Snotty staff one star is too good The only thing good about this hotel is that it is located next to the cruise ship terminal and the river cruises. Everything else is a big fat zero Housekeeping is beyond belief. For two days no service. We had to call for fresh towels No clean glasses Bathroom was all refillable pump bottles Shampoo and Body Soap the same. Only 2 clothes hangers No sheers on the windows only black out shade Don't get me going on breakfast and dinner. The worst. If I was staying at the Airport in a 2 star hotel it would be better than Movenpick. The other reviews are true. Go anywhere IBIS And Doubletree are across the street Go anywhere. Do not stay here. You have been warned.

Movenpick Hotel

the hotel is located close to Amsterdam Station where you can hop on a tram for 2.5 Euro that will take you into the city. Trains are also available. If you want to walk from the Movenpick to Amsterdam center it is about 20 minutes. The hotel is modern in design and furnishings. I have pictures so that you can see what a room looks like. I was on the 7th floor and they go up to 18 floors. There are four elevators which are modern, smooth and activated by your room key for added security. I slept well on the bed which accommodated my 6' height. The tub was deeper then most tubes and had a shower. It was nice to soak in the tub after a day of sightseeing. There is a refrigerator in the room (small), lock box and flat screen TV with lots of channels. There is a parking garage under the building. The complimentary breakfast was above average. You need to show your room key. I particularly liked the smoked salmon and varieties of whole grain breads. They had fruit, many varieties of eggs, hot and cold cereals, Danish, muffins, sausages, etc. to mention some of the choices. It's buffet style but there are employees that will clean the plates off your table. I had a good chat with several. The place is well maintained and everyone is extremely helpful. I asked so many questions and got complete accurate answers. Don't be afraid to ask for museum advise and tickets. I visited the Rijksmuseum and The Het Scheepvaartmuseum National Maritime Museum which were both outstanding and suitable for all ages. Dinners at the hotel restaurant are pricey but there are so many nearby places to eat that it is not a problem to leave the hotel. The hotel is situated in a safe and nice neighborhood. I highly recommend the Movenpick and would not hesitate to stay again. Deals are available on-line so you might want to look for them.

Hotel Mövenpick is a fantastic hotel! Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Emeil, who expediently and pleasantly got us settled. Our first impression of the hotel was big and modern! We had a room on the 19th floor that showcased an incredible water view. The bedding was exquisite, the bed comfortable which enabled us to have exceptional sleep quality. We had the included breakfast which had a vast assortment of delectable items. Everything that we tried was delicious! We appreciated the in-room Nespresso machine, it helped us get motivated! We enjoyed a couple of beverages and snacks in the bar downstairs and found the bartenders to be helpful, friendly and engaging. The food was freshly prepared and quite good. We were very pleased with our entire experience at Hotel Mövenpick.

All the rock memorabilia seems to be gone…read more The place is probably more in tune with its sensational history, maybe there is a new Yelp! page for the Clayton American Hotel, but I couldn't find one. At any rate, my experience was great. Tasteful and elegant deco atmosphere. People singing in the street at 2:00 am, but that's Leidesplein. Chalk it up as part of the experience.

As we were visiting Amsterdam again I decided, on this trip, to spoil us a little. On booking I was a little concerned that the Hard Rock organisation had taken this hotel over. So with trepidation I took the chance. OK, remember, we are oldies so can be hard to please some tell us. On arrival, the outside hadn't changed other than the bar now stretched out a little and there was service from the restaurant outside. Reception was so swift by a fantastic bubbly young lady who sorted out a room although we were three hours before the normal signing in. I wish I could remember her name. Walking to our room I noticed the architecture hadn't changed but the decoration was wonderful with so much rock music memorabilia. We LOVED it. The room, overlooking the canal, was a lot smaller than years ago but, shrug, space has to be filled. The room was more than adequate with a wonderful bathroom with walk-in shower. Breakfast was in the dining hall which was a high-light years ago. I was so pleased to see that none of the wonderful art deco had been lost. The President Hotel in Prague had ripped it all out there, sob. Here, there was modernisation, but the windows, walls and lights remained. Obviously the designer had looked and thought 'wow, we can't get rid of this'. Good on him/her. A fantastic stay and on our next visit we know where to stay. Really wish I could remember that young ladies name because she made that day for us. Hi

As soon as my cab stopped in front, a man immediately came down the stairs to help me with my bag and escort me to the check in area. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and I said of course champagne! They gave me two! I checked in with Lisa who was amazing! She had me pick out a scent for my room. What? I didn't know that existed! Super fun! My room wasn't ready because I had booked late even though it was 3pm but I didn't mind waiting, especially when they gave me that 2nd glass of champagne. When I got my room, Lisa and Fae escorted me to the room to make sure I liked it and it was beautiful. I loved how the light came into the bathroom. On that note the bathtub was so nice I almost fell asleep in it! You receive welcome chocolates in the shape of Amsterdam shoes which were so cute and delicious! I ordered room service as the bar only served snacks and did not want to go to the restaurant by myself as it was really open. I got the Waldorf Astoria Burger which was amazing and so good! I'd go back to this hotel just for that burger itself. The next day I also had the breakfast and was able to get the whole tray of assortments and all the juices and coffee I wanted PLUS another dish! All complimentary with my Hilton Diamond status. I ordered the French toast and everything was delicious! Obviously I couldn't eat it all but was able to take some left to the room for later. I also had a spa appointment while here. Massage was great and the masseuse mentioned to see a physical therapist to help my lower back pain that I was complaining about as she said it was coming from my glutes, legs, knees. I've seen a couple of masseuses in the last two years in the states and one in Canada and NONE had ever even mentioned that that could help. I love this! Very professional staff. The spa also very serene with sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. They have a door to the garden which I'm assuming is beautiful in summer but I was here in February so it was freezing! When I checked out it was with Lisa again and she was great as usual and the guys helped me with my bags again when my uber came. They let me sit in the other room and said they'd let me know when it was here. Very nice. I did not want to leave. Haha!

You Get What You Pay For…read more I bartended for Hard Rock Cafe for 12 years. I love rock and roll, so when I saw this hotel it definitely jumped out at me. I will list the positives first since there are not that many: 1. The dayshift employee (cannot remember his name) was a very nice man. He recommended great vegan restaurants and was super cool. We actually ate at his recommendations for the remainder of our stay. He booked our taxi for us the night before our departure and was very hospitable. 2. The hotel lobby is set up like a bar/lounge with a pool table and it's cozy. 3. I liked the use of musical instruments such as a drum stool for a chair in the room and the drum light fixtures in the room. It adds to the theme of the hotel. 4. It was walking distance to a lot of cool places. Negatives: 1. Amsterdam is an old city with cute old buildings. I get it. We stayed at another hotel which was also an old building (and had a very slow elevator; but still had an elevator). This hotel had nearly 90-degree stairs to carry 50 lb. luggage up four flights of stairs (we called them ladders). I could not imagine anyone with a disability or elderly ever staying there for their safety. Literally, the stairs were about 4 inches wide. I slipped on them. sober. 2. The clients mostly consisted of younger hipsters that we could hear stumbling in at night after drinks and the walls are paper thin. We even heard someone fart in the next room. 3. To drown out the noise of the other clients, my partner and I used a rain app on our smartphone so that we could get some sleep (let me add that it was currently pouring outside). We get a loud knock on our door, waking us at two o'clock in the morning by the nightshift employee, telling us to turn the rain sound down. This woke us up and we were literally trying to book a room at two o'clock in the morning at a different hotel due to his unprofessionalism. It's like, how about telling the clients that are actually making the noise to be more quiet? If you are a young and do not mind the paper-thin walls and the ladder stairs, the disgruntled night shift employee that patrols the halls for noise, and have minimal luggage, then I would recommend this place for the location. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.
