I randomly came across Murmur while walking around. We were hungry and this restaurant was pretty packed so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Cannelloni Do Bosco, Traditional poutine, and French onion soup. My favorite was the poutine. I've never had poutine before but I heard it was very popular in Quebec City so I decided to give it a try. It was very good and I would totally order it again. The Cannelloni Do Bosco was also pretty good. Very different flavors from what I'm used to but I still enjoyed it. However, the onion soup was so bad. It wasn't that hot when they served it to us and it tasted so mediocre. I literally had 2 spoonfuls of it and stopped eating it because it was so bad. It was so salty. I couldn't ask for a better experience than my first dinner on my first night in Quebec City. I was seated outside where the ambiance is close to sunset, there's a live musician singing some great songs in different languages. The air was a cool 75 degrees and the wind was slightly breezy. This was the perfect setting for my dinner. My waitress was very nice and helpful with my questions to decide what to order. I started with the duck wings. Very tasty with a nice sweet and tangy plum sauce. It had a nice Chinese flavor that I've had before. The main dish was the bbq ribs. So soft and juicy, the meat just fell off the bone. I actually met the chef and he told me he sous vides the ribs before saucing and caramelizing them. Overall, it was a great way to end my first day visit. On a Saturday with a bunch of cruise ships in port we found MurMur. Many restaurants were at full capacity. The wind was blowing and it was 40 degrees. So it was so nice just to come in to a warm and cozy restaurant. We started off with French onion soup. Myself I'm not a fan of this type of soup, my wife is, but on a freezing ass day it was good. We also had the burger. It came with a mixed green salad and french fries. Burger was good. Cooked well done. I prefer medium my self. No cheese and I forgot to ask for cheese. The fries had a good flavor but soggy. They were hot and right out but I don't know how you make fries soggy. The waiter was super nice and attentive. Very clean and nice atmosphere. read more

Well... in a pinch... of nothing else is available... it works. The hostess was very friendly, and the waiter was attentive. But the onion soup was not up to USA standards. I'd give the onion soup a 2-star rating... for the effort. The steak was not cooked properly, and was average at best. The cheese curds in the poutine were tough and tasteless. The gravy was very good, and the salad dressing was delicious. I ate half the steak and half the poutine. The "Petite Lolo" Cabernet franc had a perfume reminiscent of feces. First, it can be tough getting a table in Quebec City on a weekend when the weather is gorgeous. We happened to arrive just at opening and were seated right away, outside, and in the shade. Bonus points for that. Between the four of us we tried the shepherds pie, the cannelloni, waygu nachos, and the warm beef salad. Five stars for the warm beef salad. The beef was just kissed with heat on one side and rare to the point of bleu on the other. The dressing was delicious and the serving size was good. Though for $28 a roll would have been a nice addition. The cannelloni was good. I'd give four stars for that. The only issue is that the sauce was a bit over salted. The shepherds pie, the potatoes were of the chunky variety. And the beef was very good, but the sauce tasted straight from a can. The nachos, they get a two because they were gorgeous. The plating alone gave stars. But the tortillas were, I think, Doritos, and the entire dish was an upscale version Taco Bell. All in all, a perfectly fine place to visit. The plating is instagram worthy, and the server was delightful. But don't go there for great food. read more

Waygu burger with French fries was very good. I would have preferred the burger a bit more on the med/rare side but I didn't ask, so it arrived on the med/well side. It was still delicious. The beef salad was exceptional and showcased the rare beef. The dressing was exceptional. Francois was an excellent waiter with a great sense of humor. Friday night, summer, Quebec City, the old part. No restaurant reservation... We all know what this means - a 45 to 90 minute wait, frustration, you name it - Murmur to the rescue. Was shocked to be almost immediately seated, with a choice of both patio and inside. The place had plenty of people, but their patio is huge, and the dining room is not exactly small either. Alright, now I'm very wary - the food will probably disappoint. Well, it didn't - everything was fresh, and of good quality. The only cons would be the speed with which food is served (but then again, it's Friday night), and the absolutely ridiculous price of their cheese board (we ate a lot of other things, as well) - $24, or something like that, for a few tiny pieces of cheese, and some grapes/dates/etc - don't bother taking this - plenty of other choices. May repeat, if such a Friday night happens again. read more

This spot has an advantage - right on a lovely street in Q.C. - a great outdoor patio/ cafe feel. We stopped here because they had seats outside and I did not want to keep walking looking for something else to eat. The location in the old city - with lots of people walking by - is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. It was a very chill place to have a meal. I ordered the "mixed grill" for $35. The chicken breast on this mixed grill platter was so difficult to cut I truly thought there was a bone in it. A bone I was unfamiliar with because it was a boneless chicken breast. There were also ribs on this mixed grill - 3 of them - but they were gray and I assume frozen before arriving on my plate. The sausage on this "mixed grill" was good as were the 5 potato wedges - but they were clearly frozen and reheated. Aside from the jerky-like chicken breast I'd possibly be okay with this meal had it cost me $10 - $15. Maybe just sit here and get a drink and a few fries before walking onto a place where you can get good food for a reasonable price. Absolutely not worth the money (or anything else) given the area it's in and how many other far better options there are. We had the "mix grill" and the chicken breast was comically dry with some grocery store bbq sauce on it. Im not sure how anyone could think this was ok to serve. We also had a chicken "burger" that came with fries. It was really just a chicken sandwich you could get at any American (or American-style) diner for $8 with an insultingly small portion of fries. It's a nice location right in the old city and the service was attentive enough, which is why I give two stars instead of one. In the age of Yelp, however, I dont understand how a restaurant can think it can get away with swindling tourists like this, especially when there are so many better options footsteps away. read more

Stopped in because one of my kids wanted a burger and the other one wanted pizza. We ordered the duck poutine, something new and different, and it was ok. They weren't bad but they weren't good either. I ordered a 12oz ribeye steak, they were out of the 8 oz. It came with 1 carrot & 1 piece of broccoli and some "Greek" potatoes. The vegetables were bland and the potatoes tasted like the frozen Ore Ida seasoned potato wedges. The steak was loaded with black pepper and you couldn't taste anything other than the pepper. My wife said her pork chop was bland and just ok. The pizza my son ordered looked like it was frozen. The burger my other son ordered was ok, again bland and just ok. There are tons of other places to eat in the city and I would recommend finding one. read more

The restaurant we want to go were full and the waiting list was over an hour long. This restaurant was the only one that we stop by has a seat available. I ordered a tuna tartare for starters and a tenderloin for my main course. The tuna tartare taste ok but in my last bite of the tuna, a small piece of paper board was sticked with the fish. The server seems busy so I didn't want to bother her with the mistake. However, when my steak was served, it was too overcooked that I asked for medium while I was ordering and it was definitely a well done steak when it served. I stoped one of the server passing by and he agreed it was overcooked and took it away and sent it back to the kitchen. 5 mins later, our server came back with the plate and said the cook said the steak IS medium cooked and if I think that is overcooked I should have ask for medium rare at the first place. I asked her if she claimed that is a medium cooked steak what would be a well done steak. She said well done steak has no pink inside but the one I have has (I wish I had took a picture to show here). I must be color blind in having trouble in identifying "pink" in the steak. In conclusion, I have been waiting for an hour and spent over $150 for a very disappointing dinner. If I could travel back in time two hours earlier I would definitely drag myself out of this restaurant! read more

The chips tasted like Doritos (pretty sure they were Doritos) and the amount of beef was no more than a 1/4 cup on top. The chips were also pretty much smashed and could not eat like normal nachos. This used to be Le Grill Sainte-Anne at the Hôtel Sainte-Anne until they recently changed owners. It is on a cute sidewalk strip with lots of other open air restaurants. After exploring old Quebec we decided we needed a snack and drinks to refuel. First we were asked if we were eating dinner. When I said just an appetizer and drinks the hostess then asked if we wanted one or two appetizers because two appetizers warranted a seat outside and one warranted one inside. Not sure if this is a usual practice - id understand if it was busy but there were several empty seats. We were pretty hungry though and decided to stay. Ordered the duck poutine. Again I'm not an expert on poutine but I thought the cheese curds should be melted at least a bit? These curds were not.
