I stopped in there to have a squiz at the possibilities of some new furniture for when I move into a new house in the next few weeks. Unfortunately, almost everything in the store was out of my student budget but I couldn't help but admire the furniture. There was almost everything you could find a use for in a home, from drawers, bedside tables and a great range of dining room tables. If you have a really huge family this would be a great place to look as I saw a couple of 10-12 seater tables. Not on the cheap side mind you, but polished beautifully with reupholstered chairs. As soon as I stepped in the store a bell went off which alerted a small old lady who came and asked me if I needed any help. When I said no, she gestured down the stairs where there was a lot more furniture to see. I think this would also be the sort of place that had rotating stock so you might need to check up on it every month or so.

To give you an idea of the brands they enjoy dealing with are Noblett, Parker, Chiswell, Sellicks and I'd say Eames has passed through their hands to be sure. Just imagine the grand homes of Prospect, Unley, North Adelaide and the like, all will have some marvelous pieces and if not passed down in the family, may eventually make their way here and live on in someone else's home. Cedarwood, Mahogany, Oak, Blackwood, Maple and even Huon Pine are just some of the types of wood the furniture is made of and manufactured with traditional methods, a rarity nowadays and completely out of reach for the average wage earner. Prices can vary from affordable to sugar daddy no holds barred, so if you're in the market for furniture especially for an older home, this is a good place to visit. Ok... I am going to do it. I am going to review IKEA…read more So, it is hard to describe my relationship with IKEA. I remember when this place first opened. I actually did not know a whole much about IKEA. The brand was very foreign to me. I heard of it, but was unfamiliar with it's scale. Like the rest of Adelaide, I had to check it out. All new, shiny and plastic. Oh yes, walking through the maze that is IKEA was quite wonderful. I then started to notice something. It is not only the deisgn of their products that make IKEA successful, it is also the design of their stores. Do you ever find that when you go to IKEA you end up taking home a shoe horn, dish brush and a new mirror that you don't need? You end up having to go fetch your car to drive into the bay to load it full of stuff with a $2 icecream in your hand. I am always left saying huh? How did that happen? Over the years IKEA's appeal went downhill for me. I have had furniture and items break. What I have always been impressed with is the 3 month return policy. So, if you are not happy you can take it back for store credit. That is a plus. What do I usually get in this store now? Water glasses, plastic tubs, glass jars, curtains and maybe linen. That suits me fine. Every now and then I might get a decoration of some sort, but I have to really like it. I recommend IKEA if you are on a budget. It was awesome while I was at Uni. Try and look for the solid wood furniture if you can. They last a lot longer than the chipboard stuff. It's great that they have started to use solid pine now! Also, here is my HOT TIP: If you want to get furniture from IKEA and want it to look a little special and not just from the catalog, check out a website called IKEA Hacks. It is full of ideas for turning IKEA products into something really cool and unique. Also, don't feel like you have to use their door knobs and hinges, you can get cool antique ones from thrift stores or salvage places to make the furniture look more funky!

They even sell a large range of ceiling and stand alone fans as well now. Everything from really basic $10-$20 stuff to really extravagent chandelier styles worth hundreds. But it's not like lights are the kinds of things you buy often. When we bought our home I went here for a few changes. One light hung so low everyone hit their heads on it, one is just completely ridiculous to try and change the light bulbs in it and the third was just impratical for the location it was put in. So all three had to be replaced. It was easy to go in here and look around and get what I wanted. Then I already had everything when the electrician came. I have only ever gone here to buy lights and just looked and found what I wanted. I was amazed to read on their website all the services they also offer. Definitely go here if you are building a house or something and they can work from your plans to assist you in your lighting requirements. If necessary they will even send a consultant to your home. Who knew???? Plus they now apparently have loan kits. So you can "borrow" products and take them home so you can see what looks best in your own environment. That's a great idea. I liked them when they were just a light shop but now I have read of that I will add an extra star to my rating!

The categories include lamps, down lights, self standing lights, fixtures and even a great range of fittings that can come in handy too. You can even rent lights for a very low price too, which is something that I had never even considered before. Apart from lights they also have fans with lights too. I bought a nice ceiling fan from here a while back. The pricing was very fair and the staff were friendly. Most of the light bulbs are no more than about $25, with the obvious exception of chandelier light bulbs, which are still quite well priced. They also offer help with installing lights, which is pretty cool. I have never tried this however find it quite interesting. There was also another family there when I was there getting advice on lighting for their new home. It was very pleasing to see how knowledgable the staff were and how helpful they were to provide such services to customers.
