Church Rd has suffered since a a multi millionaire Nigerian church has purchased the local cinema with designs on making it a a bankrolling jesus cash in centre dispite being denied planning by the Council. But the residents of the the longest side of the Triangle of Upper Norwood are standing firm against this insult to the local community and not letting the rot set in. The people of SE19 have led this initiative in a creative and very cool way. Seeing it now and comparing it to the row of empty shops photographed on google maps, its amazing how much its changed in a year. All kinds of trinkets, mirrors and Christmas stocking fillers are to be found in abundance and the first rate service, whether looking or buying, should be commended. Finding Natural Style is like looking in all your pockets trying to find your lighter. You always find it in the last pocket you look in, and during winter in England that could literally be ten pockets later. They have a fine selection of the best quality oil, acrylic and watercolour paint. They also sell paper, canvas, brushes and easels. I love furniture and I love when you can see history and personality in it. Everything in here is unique and honest. Expect to find a deteriorating leather chaise, a large industrial tin locker unit, a 60's lampshade and an encyclopedia of African Art hidden behind a 1950's school photograph in a smashed frame. The Junk Shop is an Aladdin's cave of rubbish/treasure on Greenwich South Street. The stock varies from biographies and historical artifacts (mainly right wing paraphernalia- a Daily Mail series on the modern monarchy, an enormous hardback on the Third Reich and a Thatcher biography) Amongst all the military-themed bits of tat, there are actually some very good finds- there were some cool old 1950s Christmas cards, some 1960s newspapers in excellent condition and some beautiful vintage postcards. It is a funny old place but definitely worth a rummage through.
