What's going on, my name is Ugochukwu Opara, but you can call me Ugo for short. Full disclosure, I am a full time, full service, PA licensed Real Estate Agent with United Real Estate but I DO NOT WORK FOR NACA IN ANY WAY. Anyways, back to my review. I bought my place with NACA on Oct 2016. I knew about NACA for about 2 years and I sounded great so I went to the workshop and then I went to the 1st appointment with the mortgage counselor they assign you too. Going into the appointment I was very confident simply because I was a real estate agent and I knew exactly what paperwork I needed in order to get a mortgage ... I walk people through the process daily. But I get to my appointment and I have all my docs and the counselor tells me I am missing things and they start request things that I know for a fact you would never need with a normal mortgage ... so I left and I didn't come back ... for almost a year a half. This was a big big big big mistake. I came back to NACA because I felt like I was letting my ego get in the way and I felt that from the bottom of my heart that it would be helping my client if I knew about a program like NACA and I didn't do the best I can to understand it where I can walk my clients through the program. So I came back to NACA and I just cooperated. Whatever they asked, I did it and I did it in 24 hours or less. I didn't complain and I made sure I followed everything. From that 2nd appointment to me settling in Oct 2016 it was probably 4-5 months. 4-5 months sound long but NACA saves me about $16,000 since their mortgage covers your down payment AND closing cost, and appraisal, and title fees, and home inspection, and you get the lowest interest rate on a 30 or 15 years fixed mortgage. If you are a 1-st time home buyer and you have your act together or you are willing to take the advice to get your act together ... then I highly recommend you go through NACA. There are so many bad reviews for this program and I can understand why but if you are in the Philly area, please reach out to me because I will help you get through the program and then help you with the home buying part as your realtor. Last year (2017) I helped 25 clients get through the NACA mortgage AND settle on their home. NACA provided the BEST mortgage hands down and you can ask any lender who is honest. The interest rate on my mortgage I less than 1.5% on a 30 year fixed mortgage ... where on the planet can you get that? Nowhere lol and that just a fact. Let's get to work, it's worth it. So far my process with NACA has been good. The two only things is it do take a while to finish your application because NACA needs a lot of information from you and even all that you can still be not qualified. She answered all of my questions and let me know exactly what was needed for my process to be as smooth as possible. I believe NACA is a great program! It provides a way to achieve affordable homeownership even if you have financial and credit challenges. The counselors work with you to keep you on track and to make sure you upload the necessary paperwork to their portal. Andrea Granville, my counselor, is great! She is very pleasant and knowledgeable about everything required of you to get a home through NACA. The paperwork and documents required can be overwhelming at times, but stick with it. I started the NACA process in 11/2021! Yes it has been a process but it walked me through getting back on my feet credit wise and financially after my divorce. My counselor Augustine M. has been the best and is very responsive. Not only have I been able to save but my credit score has been greatly improved. I believe NACA is a great program. NACA provides people an opportunity to achieve affordable homeownership despite any financial setbacks or challenges a person my have or had face. I just recently had my initial interview and it went well. Ms. Kenisha was kind and thorough with all explanations. Moving forward we have an action plan in place to ensure all documentation is uploaded and accurate. For anyone interest in the program, this doesn't appear to be in easy process. Let me start by saying what the program offers is very beneficial and needed in our communities. With that being said, they way the services are delivered needs a serious overhaul! I have been at the process for 10 months now. It has been extremely tedious and disheartening. After each meeting, I was led to believe we were at the point of moving forward to the next step, only to find out at the next meeting more documentation was needed. I also had a counselor change when I was supposedly at the end of step 1, which could account for some of the inconsistencies. I had two instances where I was ready to quit. One was today! LOL...BUT I am going to stick the process out and hopefully be able to come back and write a five star review and post a smiling picture with my counselor. read more

In my opinion, NACA is a very good program. My experience has been very positive. Started my counseling session. While it's intense, it's worth the effort, time, and information shared. Budgeting is huge in this process and teaches the discipline needed to be a homeowner. The portals are easy to use and upload all required documents. NACA mortgage product is atypical compared to conventional mortgages. It is a slower and more tedious process. The benefits and perks of a NACA mortgage are enticing. NACA has recently updated the user portal which is more user friendly. read more

Joined Naca four months ago. Once I was able to login into my wed file and seeing everything that was needed it was overwhelming. So I need it day by day to collect and uploading all of my documents. Once I had everything uploaded I made my first appointment with my counselor. My appointment was a couple of weeks away so I stating doing a lot of research, looking at different people's reviews. Some good and bad, so I told myself that throughout this process I will keep a positive mind and learn how to be successful through it looking at other sets back and learning from their mistakes or setbacks. After having my intake appointment I am excited and pleased to be a Naca member. My Counselor was nice and educated us on everything we needed to do. I am excited to go through the program and to purchase our dream house. read more

The sysem for uploading documents onto the NACA website leaves a lot to be desired! once you start uploading you are unable to see what you uploaded if you need to look later on. We are always getting locked out of our webfile and need to constantly make a new password. The initial workshop was very informational, don't forget to take pad and pen you will need it! So far our counselor has been able to get our stuff situated and hopefully we will be qualified soon. read more

So far Naca has been good. My counselor was very helpful with intake process. A lot of information needed but will be well worth it.

I began this process with NACA in May 2021. I took the time needed to move through the action plan provided, secured the documents requested and uploaded them as required. It is now 3 months later and all of my documents have been reviewed. More have been requested however they have been minimal and don't appear to be holding up the process of my file being submitted. Maybe three months is too long of a process, however there may be some information I am not aware of behind the reason for scheduling. My counselor, Langston Washington has been very direct and thorough during this entire process. There isn't an email sent from me that he has not replied to. I am currently in the process of qualifying for a NACA mortgage. The process thus far has not been quick nor easy on my end but I'm certain once I get to the final step it will all be worth it. Stringent steps on budgeting and managing every aspect of your funds can only be useful in the long run. Will continue to update as I get further in the program. read more

NACA has proven to be a wonderful opportunity that I am proud to be a part of. I am in the middle of my NACA process. I had my initial meeting in March '21 and used the Action Plan items I was tasked with to prepare for my follow-up meeting, which was held in June '21. The two NACA counselors that I have met with have been beyond helpful and supportive of my application. They did a great job of answering my questions and providing insight regarding next steps. I look forward to receiving my pre-approval so that I can looking for my new home. NACA's benefits of no down payment, no closing costs, and a below market interest rate, to name a few, are unmatched in the housing industry and this program is truly something more people need to take advantage of. Yes, it does take time and the counselors do want to be sure that you are prepared to take on a mortgage, which is a big financial responsibility. It's important to remember that buying a piece of property should not be a rushed decision or process and NACA ensures that its members are fully prepared when they work with them. NACA program is something that I've heard about but never looked into it until maybe a year ago. The process so far is okay when initially I got into the program it was during COVID so everything is remote. Now I'm waiting on my 2nd appointment to go over certain paperwork and where I am in the process. My current living situation is giving me anxiety about my process and how long this will actually take the uploading of the information is saying that its there but I'm not seeing it so my hopes are high that once my counselor gets the information we are on and rolling to the next step. I have high hopes that I'm moving in the right direction. read more

So far they have been nothing but horrible. I've been given at least four different counselors, been misinformed about the process, no call backs...I've paid my bills on time for at least 40 months on time, and still nothing. I've recently had the remote session TWICE and still no call back or email. This has been going on for at least 3 yrs. I'm on a private disability (way more than govt disability) and only have until April to buy the house I'm currently renting. Right now they're not doing a good job. I even contacted the national office....nothing. read more

I started out with a housing counselor who seemed very adamant in helping me purchase my first home this year and qualified this month of April. Since I have now had two new counselors, more documentation to upload, and So forth. But over all, I have faith in the program, and that they are setting you up for a successful home purchasing process. read more

Patience and diligence are key here. This process can be long and frustrating if you don't land a good counselor. If your counselor quits or your session is rescheduled for months later, just give the new counselor a call and see if there are any openings that day or the next. We had a rough start (took more than a year to get toward the end) but once we were assigned our new counselor Langston, everything has been smooth sailing. As a new NACA member, I have had nothing but an awesome experience! My Housing Counselor, Langston is very attentive and informative. My initial Counseling session was on November 16th. Since then, I have meet with Langston for follow up on November 24th (the day before thanksgiving). And come on guys who actually works the day before a holiday? I tell you who, Langston! The best part is my next follow up meeting is tomorrow, December 4th. Yes, that is a Saturday! I believe I will be officially NACA qualified then. The worst company I've ever had to deal with in my entire life. They are disorganized, arrogant, and incompetent. They make the home-buying process infinitiely harder than it ever should be, and cost their clients more money than they should have to put out. They want to help people in lower income situations, but when there's problems, they think they can disrespect people like they came from sewers, and act dismissively towards them. NACA is an awful company. Instead of assisting with home purchases they exhaust you with ridiculous documentation requirements until you give up and they do not refund fees and charge for every year in the program. Avoid the headache and stress. Every time I met a list of demands they came up with a different list until I gave up. I almost gave up on buying a home but decided to try a normal lender where the process was not over burdensome. Even if you make it to underwriting, getting the actual mortgage is a nightmare. I have a credit score of 820 and savings and income and I still could not get a mortgage. I can't imagine what they put families through who actually need real assistance and guidance to buy a home. I hope they're investigated so that they can stop doing this to people.l and families. As they say if it sounds too good to be true when it comes to companies, it probably is not true. read more

This program is misleading and a government sham they talk about no closing costs and credit score needed but they will ask you for down payment money and run your credit history. And give false information in home counseling. read more

Okay going through the process is one thing to get the preapproval letter for the mortgage and the mortgage...long drawn out process. If you have money for a conventional loan or FHA go with that because at least there are time lines to be met that have to be met with this I don't think they give two shits about time, it's their mortgage. Other mortgages there are penalties. I want to be able to hand in all my paperwork as required and on their end they need to process things as required. When I finally get the house I know forms etc have to go through mortgage company bid on it accept bid need to do good faith agreement etc I keep hearing RE agents don't like to work with NACA because they ignore deadlines. Guess what ignore deadlines people lose out on a house they wanted. NACA does not care because if one sucker wises up here come 50 more. The only reason I'm going through them is because I am straight busted. If I had family support or any for that matter I would not bother. read more
