Truly wonderful, beautiful pastries. We came near the end of their open hours that day but still had a nice array of options available. However we were told they couldn't make drinks - I think it was too close to closing time, which I understand. There was a little bit of confusion about items in the case being mislabeled, likely because they get shuffled around as items sell out- so I'm honestly not sure what we ordered really. Order delivery this morning for breakfast from Nadia's French Bakery. It is my first time trying them. The beignets were pillowy soft filled goodness (got a Nutella and a tiramisu beignet) and the croissant a buttery delectable strawberry cream filled pastry. I was in baked goods heaven. My husband and son loved them as well. Love finding local delicious places like this to support. Amazing quality and attention to detail in this establishment. Des Moines has several high-end bakeries, but none that have a specialty such as Nadias: traditional methods and flavors of french pastries. The service is friendly and surprisingly laid back too. This place is really going to be something. I went an hour before closing for the day and all they had left was chocolate, plain and raisin croissants. I ordered two and we tried them. They were good not sure they were price worthy. The pastry was a little small and lacked bold butter favor. The owner was super kind and helpful! I really, really want her to be very successful! My first-ever visit in early November 2025 yielded two very disappointing takeout items -- an apple turnover with sticky layers of stale dough, scant filling and a burned taste. The second item was a dry walnut- encrusted cinnamon roll that I was assured was fresh by the sales staff member. I spent $14 and had to dispose of both rolls in the trash. Neither was edible. I reallllly want to like this place. I love almond croissants. Would drive miles for a good one. Unfortunately here they are only good on the days you are fortunate enough to enjoy them fresh. First time, old. Next time, fresh. Fresh again. You never know what you will get. Back to stale today. For $7.95, I want fresh. The fresh ones are flakey and soft inside and crisp on outer layers. Also wanted coffee and they said they didn't have any brewed today. If- you need to sell older pastries please note that up front and offer to warm it up in oven.Or, manage the numbers made better to accommodate fresh croissants daily. WOW!!! Tried Nadia's French Bakery this morning and I'm so glad we did !! I tried an almond croissant and a pain au chocolate. They were French perfection! My friend had a fruit tart and an almond croissant. She loved them both and said they were the best pastries she's had in Des Moines. I would agree. Yes, there are other places that make great French pastries in Des Moines. Personally, this is now my favorite. I also loved their house coffee. I just drink my coffee black and it was excellent coffee. My friend always gets some kind of coffee drink and she loved the café au lait that she had. Nadia is located at about 28th and Grand in Des Moines. There is plenty of parking in her lot. Inside there are six tables for 4: 3 high tops and 3 regular height. The chairs are cushioned. I couldn't find any reviews that showed what they had for seating so that's why I include it. We were there for a couple of hours this morning, and it was a constant flow of people in and out. Nadia has been selling her French pastries at the farmers market for the past few years. This is a new brick and mortar for her. Her menu is currently limited, but I imagine she will expand as demand grows. Do yourself a favor and stop by. We will definitely be back! read more
