I don't usually get my nails done, but I decided to treat myself since I'm going to a wedding. I didn't have an appointment, but they were able to accommodate me for a pedicure and acrylic nails. They were attentive and very friendly. Kim did my acrylic nails, gave me the design I wanted, and took her time. Getting your nails done in the Dulles, Virginia is VERY expensive. The most expensive I have seen yet. Before I chose "Nail Design", I called various places to ask how much an acrylic fill with gel polish and a pedicure would be. On average an acrylic fill with gel was anywhere from $35 to $45... and a basic pedicure was anywhere from $27 to $33... ABSOLUTELY OBSURD I called "Nail Design" and my fill was $25 and if I would have gotten a pedicure it would have been $20. This is what I consider my neighborhood gem! It's like the dive bar of nail salons. I've been there plenty of times and have zero complaints. I usually get acrylic french tips, I never really use the same person exclusively so they've been done by a couple of guys now and they both did a fabulous job in under 40 minutes! Some places have taken me well over 2 hours. They haven't charged me when I asked for a little diamond on my ring finger yet and I always tip them extra for that. They don't charge a lot for acrylic or gel nails compared to a lot of other places around here and it's only $10 to get them refilled...that bargain is worth it to me! I really do love this place. Just don't come in expecting something grandiose and fancy, it's very small but very comfortable. I've never had to wait here with no appointment, and I've never made one! The WORST nail salon experience I have ever had. This was in December but I just came across the picture and had to post. I have had acrylics done at a lot of places and this was the most horrific experience ever. They completely cut up my cuticles and just did a terrible job applying the acrylic. I even said something when I noticed it was looking too thick too close to the cuticle, she then proceeds to just f*ck up all of my cuticles literally making 3 of my nails bleed, as you can see in the pic. This is my go-to nail place in Herndon. I do not go regularly as I do get busy. I usually go here to get my nails done for special occasions or want to make my nails look fancy. If I get acrylics done, Tony is my go-to guy. He knows his job very well and his work is seamless. I have gotten acrylics done at other places, but I keep coming back for Tony's services instead. It does get busy and they are accommodating. I sometimes have a broken nail or need some minor fixing done they have done it for me with no -charge since I am a familiar face. Even if they do not charge me for fixing a broken nail, I make sure to leave a tip for my nail tech. If you want an appointment with Tony, you should call ahead of time about 3 days ahead. First time visiting Nail Design and will be my last time. For starters, this place is extremely small (4 pedicure chairs and approximately 5-6 nail booths) with outdated equipment. So if you are looking for something extravagant, Nail Design is not it on appearance alone. I did a walk-in visit and was told I had a 15-minute wait; which was accurate. I received a pedicure and gel manicure. Upon arriving home, I noticed on my pedicure the left over polish from my previous pedicure and the second coat was applied approximately 3/4 of each toe; which means she did not do a thorough job. The manicure was a little better but also noticed after doing my hair the gel polish (DND) started to chip. I assume the nail tech realized this because she kept emphasizing how gel polish is different and they can never tell the outcome. Which by the way I've never experienced at Worldgate Nail (my regular Nail Salon). I was a little disappointed how some customers came in for a walk-in and was told to come back tomorrow as they were extremely busy. However, minutes later, other walk-in customers came in and was told to wait a few minutes and pick a color. I'm not sure if this is in reference to the sign they have displayed on how they can refuse service to any customer. On a lighter note, the cost was cheaper. This is by far the filthiest and worst nail salon I have ever been to - hands down. Let me start with the good part - The lady who did my nails "Lan" was pleasant, even though she got a little irritated when I tried to explain to her that I didn't want my tips so thick and white. My pedicure: To start with I don't even know why she bothered to put my feet them in the water at all because there is no way the calluses on anyone's foot would have soften by then. She proceeded to to do the foot scrub even before the water was even completely filled up. Her tools did not come from an individually sterilized packet but were in some dirty old looking metal box. She didn't apply any lotion and put on the nail polish without the base coat. She cut so deep into my cuticles and I flinched several times from pain and eventually had to tell her to stop. My manicure was worse because. The dust on the table was so thick it was unbelievable. Again no base coat, no lotion or hand massage and several untouched spots especially on the sides of each nail. The premises its self is very small, dingy and everything so filthy I know will catch some disease if I continue going there. The pedicure and nail job were also the worse I've ever done. I won't even pay $10 to get that service and the health risk I exposed myself to. The nail polish on my pedicures usually last for about 2 weeks but it started peeling and wearing off on just day 3. My manicure fared even worse. I'm writing this because I wish I had a clearer idea of what this place was like before I decided to go there. Hopefully, this will help others with their decision making. I want iterate that the people were pleasant but I implore them to clean the premises, use cleaner tools and do a better job. read more

My friend and I came in wanting two gel manis. Their were only 3 people working. Two for manicures and one for pedicures. I don't think the equipment they use is sanitized probably and tony rushed to do my nails. He didn't ask if I wanted them cut or how I wanted them shaped. I went to this salon with high hopes and I must say I'm disappointed. I asked for a glitter ombré on top of a color...You can see the line difference between the color and the glitter. The price and services here are great...the staff is very friendly and efficient and over all I am very pleased with the deluxe pedi (with design) and the gel french manicure (not the fake nails, the "gelish" polish that lasts a few weeks). This is a great place. The prices are very reasonable. I've been going here for about two years now and they have never done a bad job. I have never had to make an appointment. Most of the time, they have been able to take me right away. In the two years I've been going there, I have only had to wait once. The nail technicians are all very nice and polite. Some are better than others at giving a good pedicure, but none of them are bad. I like to get the spa pedicure which is only $30 for about an hour of foot and leg pampering. I've also had a manicure here and they do a great job with that as well. They know their regular customers and treat good tippers very well. Do not come here! Save your money. Today I came in around 6pm (they close at 7) and when I entered no one greeted me. They almost acted as if I was not there. They were a little busy so I let it slide. I proceeded to pick out my nail polish and then took a seat. After waiting for 30 minutes, the nail guy came up to me and asked me what I needed done. I told him a pedicure and gel polish. His response to me was that I had to pick one or the other because they were about to close. This is by far the rudest experience I have had in a nail shop. I.e. 15 second hand massage and I had to ask for her to buff my nails again because they were razor sharp at the edges. I don't think I'd be back because the services were rushed and the smell of the acrylic nails permeated the entire salon. I would suggest that they invest in better ventilation seeing as how it's a tiny space. I mean, with the invention of Shellac, who even gets acrylic nails anymore? I have been their client for over 3 years now, but I am sorry to say, I will not return there and have to find another place now. I recently got gel nails done there and apparently they told me it is gel and charged me for gel but I later found out it was acrylic. That is a shame. I went to another nail place in NC as I was on vacation and they were shocked to see that my nails were plain old acrylic and not the gel I was thinking it was. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a Yelp review. It's not because I am blown away with the level of pampering and customer service - I have no complaints in this department but it's not the kind of place that you go to relax and be pampered in a luxurious environment. Why I felt I needed to write a review is because this place took me in without an appointment, not long before closing (my bad - I assumed places would be open later than they are here), for no less than three services including a no-chip, which takes much more than a couple of minutes. Also, I am sure I have never spent this little on these services before. The total for a Brazilian a no-chip and a pedi was $75 ($30, $25, and $20). I have spent that much on just a Brazilian alone! So things started off with the Brazilian - a sweet young girl who didn't seem like she was very meticulous but also caused pretty much NO PAIN - how is that possible?! And while I didn't get the impression that she was being meticulous, I am actually incredibly smooth! She didn't get the very top of my butt crack but I suspect that's because she was too polite to ask me to get into an awkward position. As it was, I had to ask her if it would help if I raised my legs. I am sure if I had wanted a perfect job I could have asked her to touch up the upper a-hole area too. Next was the fastest pedicure I have ever had, but my toes look perfect and my soles are less like leather than they were when I went in. Finally dude stayed after closing to do my no-chip. Start to finish in probably about 20 minutes and PERFECT! I expect that process to take around 45 minutes (and cost ~twice as much!). So in summary - if your idea of pampering yourself is to have someone else do something to you that feels good, then this is probably not your place, but if your idea of pampering yourself is to have someone make you look better so that you can feel good for days or a week or more after (ie you're more interested in the end rather than the means) - go here! I wish I could take this place home to Chicago with me! Oh - no credit card tip (like a lot of places) so bring cash because these people deserve that little something extra! read more
