First let me start my review by saying that the ownership has changed hands, so the previously highlighted Rita and Steve are no longer there, however...QUEENIE is fantastic! I can't say enough good things about her, she was very sweet, warm and friendly. We had an excellent conversation for the duration of the services, and her services were meticulous. I did book on a Monday at 1PM which is their quietest time with most people back in the office, so I highly recommend making an appointment on a Monday/Tuesday before 5 PM, because after that she says that they get swamped. They are also moving in one week to a brand new glossy high-end condo first floor location, not too far from their old King St. one which was very close to me, hence my trying them in the first place. Boy am I ever glad that I did, and this will be my new go to place! I should also mention at this point that I'm actually an Aesthetician/Hairdresser myself, having owned three Spa's over the course of my career before a back injury. I'm a fairly good judge of work standard, and an OCD perfectionist, leaving the salon and not finding a single thing that I had to tidy myself which is very rare. I see from alot of the reviews that finding a great place Downtown is a real struggle, and while they are located where King Street meets a small side street named Princess, I think I heard the word Sherborne in there somewhere, but I could be mistaken. Fingers crossed that they carry on this high level of customer service and quality work over to the new space, which I assume will become incredibly busy at sidewalk level with giant new windows, brand new, and high foot traffic. So back to the services, not only did I find the mani/pedi fabulous, not rushed whatsoever (lasted for about 2 hours if I'm correct), it included exfoliation, a lovely massage and even hot towels. But wait for it, if it's even possible, it got even better. Pricing! I received a full manicure/pedicure with regular polish for $40. If I had chosen to add shellac to my fingers and toes, they have a special for $60. (As well if paying cash, no tax.) I couldn't believe it! I got this amazing service meticulously done, not rushed, left fully dry, including the tip For $50! (At that price I could afford to tip her 25%, and if I had more cash on me I would've given her more). I highly recommend this place and specifically Queenie. Again I do hope all of this transfers to the new place, but if you're reading this today on a Tuesday and can get in there before 5 PM. Now is your chance! read more

First time here getting a mani+pedi. I liked that I was seated right away upon arriving, and everything seemed to be going quite well. This was until I noticed a few of my nails formed bubbles as they were drying. I asked the person to see if she could fix them, and she said she would maybe 30 minutes later. It definitely would have been nice to have gotten this taken care of right away. Waiting 30 minutes/longer for her to redo nails and then extra for them to dry. I've been here once before and it seemed ok but I made an appointment on the phone for 6:30pm. I showed up to the lady in the front seemingly flabbergasted and I was told that it would be a 15 minute wait. There were also two other people who showed up for 6:30 appointments. I was asked to pick a colour and sit on a pedicure chair. 7:08pm comes and goes and I'm still sitting on my chair waiting for someone to acknowledge me. Really sad to update my review of Nailing. I was here quite a bit last year, telling my friends about their special and was surprised to see a few negative Yelp reviews but would have to agree that a few things have changed/gone downhill since then. When I arrived I was greeted by the Manager/Owner Rita who I still think is wonderful and really meticulous when it comes to doing nails. It was too bad I didn't have her for this appointment! We arrived a little early and didn't have to wait too long for the technicians to come and start on us. One thing I noticed was that everyone was in a rush because it was super busy! I just felt anxious with the ladies working on my friend and my nails, because they seemed a bit rushed. I would have to comment that my nail tech seemed rushed, but she still did a good job. I felt bad for the others because since there is no one at the front desk, one of the girls is constantly leaving her station while working on a customer to greet new customers. If I was the customer, I don't think I would be impressed. I think they really overbooked appointments today, especially for Friday leading up to New Years. I was treating my girlfriend to a shellac mani and regular pedi for her Birthday. I felt so bad because it seemed like she didnt have a good experience. Her nail tech tossed the shellac wheel colours on her lap while she had the clips on. I think they could have just brought it over and placed it on her lap instead of tossing it. She was taken aback. Also the colour she wanted wasn't there either so the one they recommended, she didn't really like but it was too late to change it. Also, we overheard another customer saying she was promised something when she made an appointment on the phone, but the nail tech said she couldn't do it so she was really disappointed after waiting 20 mins. Nailing has potential to be great, but they need to keep up with their volume of customers, stop overbooking appointments and work on their customer service. I've been coming here soon after it opened, they use to be so amazing...now they just rush through your services leaving poor results. 2 days after my visit (shellac mani and regular pedi) I had 2 chips on my finger nails and very large uneven gaps from the base of my nails/cuticles (poor shellac application or the technician thinned out the product with acetone ) and several chips on my toes. I was on vacation and just laying by the pool, I wasn't even doing anything active to cause these chips. I just can't be bothered to go back to have them "fill in" the spots, I don't think this can be fixed by filling. I had previously had reasonably good experiences considering the lower price point. My last three visits have changed my mind and I won't be returning. My first trip, I got a shellac manicure which chipped in 3 days. I returned to have it fixed which they did no problem, but the same nails chipped 2 days later. I take care of my nails and they usually last 2-3 weeks easily. My second trip I booked a 10 am appointment on a Saturday, and I arrived 5 minutes early. I waited about 5-10 minutes for someone to start on my nails, which was fine, but after putting the clips with acetone on my nails, the person left to work on another customer and left the remover on my nails for almost 20 minutes, while two other staff members were working on a second customer. I had to take the clips and remover off my nails myself because I waited so long. I felt that this appointment (when it eventually started in earnest) was rushed and she wouldn't put another coat of polish on even though some parts of my nail weren't opaque. Last night I had a 5:30 appointment, and I again arrived 5 minutes early. At 5:45 I noticed that of the two staff there, one was still putting shellac on one of the customers and the other was mid-pedicure. When I asked when I would be seen one of the ladies said she would be done my nails by 6:30 - missing the point! I didn't want another rushed manicure, and I didn't want to wait another 15-20 minutes to start. The other lady said she was done with the customer getting a pedicure, but this customer then said she had also booked a manicure - they were going to leave her in the middle of her appointment! So instead I just left. I won't be coming back here as I value my time and the staff clearly doesn't. Overbooking customers = bad customer service. read more

Love this place! Every time u go they have awesome customer service! From greeting to actually doing your nails all the ladies there are professional! The environment is clean and for a downtown salon it's pretty spacious! Love the staff there and their designs are on point! Every time I go they will ask me what kind of design I want and every single time I'm done I get a lot of compliments for my nails!! I walked in without having appointment but was seated right away for regular pedi +reg mani. The girl who was doing pedi was very friendly, sweet and was doing a great job. All was well until scary Chloe (?) showed up to do my mani at the same time. That Chloe had horrible attitude - and I mean it. She was clearly rushing, doing half-ass job on filing/cutting my nails, twisting my fingers back and forth. No soaking my hands in the water before filing, no cleaning after filing.. She sat on one side of my pedicure chair and forcefully pulled my opposite arm (no asking "give me your arm", just pulled it, yikes). I did not say anything at first - only asked to fix some asymmetrical filing which she did with sigh (!) and hurting my finger in the process:( Afterwards she picked my nail polish with intention to do it right away and I asked if we could move to the table, as it was incredibly uncomfortable with her pulling my opposite arm. She said she was late for train so I said I had no problem waiting for somebody else doing it. She stood abruptly, threw (!) the nailpolish on the table nearby, barked "Up to you" and stormed away. WTF?? The other girl who was doing my pedicure was astonished as well (at least I'm not imagining things) and apologized afterwards for this behaviour. I understand that you, Chloe, are rushing for your train but it's not my problem as a customer. Nobody forced you to do my nails, I certainly did not. I related this matter to the owner- she apologized, too and said would talk to Chloe. Arghh, I wanted to like this place more than I do. I went here with a friend to do the $30 mani-pedi deal, we had booked an appointment so we got seated right away which was nice. The two women who did our nails were nice, but the lady who worked on my friend's nails was much more meticulous, taking time to make sure she was happy with everything. The lady who worked on my nails went through everything quickly, resulting in very thin polish application which began chipping just later that day. I wasn't as happy with my nails as with other places I have gone before, but I feel like it was a hit or miss situation based on the person I got. One thing that I enjoyed about Nailing more than any other place I've gone, however, are their massage chairs. They are incredible and have like a million functions. Management contacted me last week to ask me when I would be coming in for my complimentary pedicure (in connection with my previous experience). I had forgotten that I had this, and I really appreciated that they had remembered, and even reached out to me to schedule the appointment. I went back last Wednesday for the complimentary pedicure with Rita (management). She took her time with every aspect of the pedicure and I could tell she really cared about the outcome. She even noted to me that one of my nails was slightly bent and to be careful going forward with it (so that it wouldn't chip off). The overall experience was relaxing, and very enjoyable. Found this place and it looked like the nicest option in the area. It's on the second floor, so if you can't find it, look up! I needed to have gel nail polish (or shellac as they say in Canada) removed and then new polish put on. I like that they didn't use foil to hold the wet cotton balls, they have these little clips, which I liked! But when they took off the gel/shellac, the lady really was rough and ruined my nails. I've gotten them removed many times and it hasn't been so hard on my nails. The polish job was also just mediocre. I might go back, but i'm hoping to find somewhere better. read more

I had high hopes for this place as I am looking for a go-to nail salon in my new neighborhood. However, I received the absolute worst mani/pedi I've EVER had. Truly an amateur job. They hardly took any dead skin off my feet, particularly the heels. Just a cursory scrub with the pumice. There was no attention given to under or the sides of the nails. Sorry, this is gross, but there was still dirt under the nails. The foot massage was brief and half-hearted. there were no extras like paraffin or an exfoliating scrub. Same story for the manicure. Not thorough in the least, many shortcuts taken. Cuticles barely attended to. The worst part? It started chipping almost immediately. I've never had this happen before. Within a few days it was totally unpresentable. And I'm going to need another pedicure because I don't even feel like I had one. BOTTOM LINE: DON'T GO HERE IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT A GOOD MANI/PEDI IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE. YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. read more

My friend took me here as a birthday treat yesterday. It was the day before new year's eve so it was quite busy, which was understandable. However, I was pretty disappointed in the way we were treated. I wanted to get a shellac manicure, but was waiting to get my pedicure done first. The manicurist wrapped my fingers with clips to get my old shellac polish off, then threw the shellac wheel in my lap. I couldn't even pick it up, my friend had to help me pick a colour. Turns out the colour I chose wasn't available. I settled on another colour. I got a french manicure with glitter tips. Apparently this place opened half a year ago? I no longer frequent this neighbourhood as much, however, I was in the area and needed to get my nails done for an event. I found them on Yelp and saw that they had a check in deal! When I walked in, there was only one customer, getting shellac. I needed a mani/pedi (and the deal was $30 for a mani/pedi, which was perfect for me). They sat me down right away, and were very fast and efficient at getting my mani/pedi done. So far so good, right? This is when things start to go south for me... I brought my own nail polishes, in case I could not find anything that worked for me. As it turned out, I preferred my own polishes, and my pedicurist was good with that. However, she then got helped by another woman, as they were about to get an influx of customers. So the new pedicurist started finished up the pedi while the first woman started on my mani. When I was being moved to a manicure station (after the pedi was completed) I grabbed my polish and dropped it into my bag. At this point, I noticed that the woman who had finished my pedicure saw this, and seemed suspicious (as if I were stealing their nail polish). As my manicure is being done, by the very lovely woman who had started my pedicure, a couple of women came in. My manicurist was needed to help with the services they needed, so she asked the other woman to come finish my manicure (apply topcoat). The other woman (Rita?) TOTALLY IGNORED ME. 10 mins later, the first woman noticed I was still waiting for top coat and called to Rita again, and a different woman came by to apply topcoat. This woman then asked me if it was my own nail polish. She was referring to my hands, but the implication was for both. After this I was completely ignored for 35-45 mins. I had arrived at 4:20, and didn't leave this establishment til 5:40 because I was basically ignored by the 4 employees who were there (serving two customers while another one sat at the dryer). Also, the two customers they were serving were sitting in pedicure chairs to the right of mine (where all my stuff was) and one of those two women had decided to leave her belongings on the chair I had been sitting on... where all my things were! I found that to be incredibly rude (and uncomfortable). I know it's the customer who did this, but I still don't understand why she was seated right next to my belongings when there were 6 other empty chairs? Eventually I had to call someone over who then asked me if my nails were dry... Uhm, I don't know? I'm the customer, you're providing me a service, which I'm paying for, so maybe you should check and then let me know if I can leave? They did accept my check-in deal, and I have to say that the only non-Asian employee at this place was great at doing my nails and provided great service (unfortunately I did not catch her name). But other than that... I honestly wouldn't go back. This neighbourhood definitely needs a place like this. It's clean inside and inviting. But I did not appreciate their service overall. Went to get a mani and pedi here after reading great reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately my experience here wasn't as great as everyone else's. I went with a friend and we were both very disappointed in the services we received. At first, walking into the place, the man at reception was very welcoming and helpful. Showed us to the colours and then to our seats. The place was very nice and clean, I'll give them that. However the manicure and pedicure we received was really poorly done. To start, my pedicure consisted of a feet soak with getting the nails cut. My nails were not filed and the skin around my nails and cuticles was barely touched. I asked the woman who did my nails three times to remove a piece of my cuticle that was lose and my request was ignored. Both my manicure and pedicure felt rushed (and I had booked an appointment). My manicure was just as bad as the pedicure. It felt rushed and just like my pedicure, my nails were barely touched. I had to ask her to remove my cuticles and she told me she already had. It felt like I just got a colour change rather than a manicure. What happened the next day: Removed the nail color that they applied; And, wanted to charge me another $8 if I chose a different color. My mistake: I paid Nailing for messing up my nails. Result: Messy toe nails; Wasted time; Wasted money; Felt taken advantage of. What would have been acceptable: Apologizing for the mess; Requesting payment after fixing the mess; A coupon to make me feel better. If they did the acceptable, I would have been their customer for life coz messes happen, but what matters is how we clean up.
