My nails were not filed evenly and some are strangely angled and not even filed straight. Very little was done to smooth the heels of my feet and they we left rather rough. I'm also not a fan of metal scrappers being used for exfoliating. The polish was thick and gloopy and it left little bubbles and a strange looking texture on my nails. There was quite a bit of nail polish left on my skin which I had to clean off once I got home. There was no tissue wrapped between my toes to keep them apart and the polish was applied before putting my flip flops on so putting them on after only ruined what had been done to that point. The second coat of polish was more to fix the mess that putting on the flip flops made. The outcome defeated the purpose of getting a pedicure. I'll have to take it off and redo it myself before stepping out in sandals. The calf massage was nice though. Live and learn.

I was greeted by a friendly front desk staff who asked me immediately if I wanted water or raspberry tea. Even though she did forgot to bring me the tea, I was impressed with another staff who asked when she took me to my manicurist. They also gave me a hot towel to clean my hands. One of the reasons I didn't give this place a 5 is because they were late seating me. Even though, they were apologetic, I like appointments that are on time and not 15 mins late. Having said this, I do have to give them cred for taking my friend who was also late to the appointment! My manicurist, Rebecca was very friendly. I told her I wanted shellac with easy nail art. I showed her a sample and she immediately knew what to do. She picked a really nice base for my nails and worked with what I wanted, but also added her own creativity. The only other reason why I am not giving a 5 is because she told me at the end that the nail art was $12 instead of $10 (price for easy art). I think this should have been told right up front so I am not surprised. Even if I made changes midway, i would have liked a heads up. End of the day, it was only $2 extra, but it's the principle. Despite this, I truly love love my nail work and appreciated Rebecca's attention to detail and patience with me. The cost of these nails weren't cheap - I paid $90 including tax and tip. Since my family and I were staying in Markham during our last vacation, I wanted to find a nail salon in the city, which ended up leading me here (which I found on Yelp). There wasn't any information about price though on this Yelp page but am happy to add these photos of the pricing that I took when I arrived. I initially had made an appointment for Tuesday, around 2 pm the day before. However, my lunch with one of my aunts and uncles went longer than expected and so I had to call to cancel and ask if I could change the time to a later time. The girl on the phone was so kind and told me because I wasn't exactly sure what time I would be available to have my nails done, she suggested to call before coming in just so I would not have to wait if I was to do a walk in. So later that day, I called prior and the girl told me to come in, so I walked in around 4:55 pm and waited a little over 10 minutes before being asked to take a seat by an employee named Joey. I wanted to get gel nails, which is different from shellac nails for those that may confuse the two (especially since sometimes nail salons will use both words interchangeably but they are not the same). Shellac nails are kind of like a semi- permanent polish, which doesn't last as long (and also is cheaper than gel nails). But gel nails are a semi- permanent gel nail, which does last a few weeks longer. Gel nails cost $75 for a new set. I also wanted a design (I almost always get a design with my nails, which does cost extra but I don't mind), which I had a photo on my phone to show Joey. I told her what design I wanted for my ring finger and middle finger and the same on the other hand (so total of 4 nails that would have design). Joey told me that cost would be $75, in which she didn't charge me extra for design (so I made sure to tip her higher because of it). I liked that Joey took a photo of the design I had in mind with her camera phone so that she could refer to it on her own phone while she was painting my nails. Joey definitely is very talented and I just loved the design she had, as I picked an ice cream cone with sprinkles. She also helped me to find the right colors that I wanted (I wasn't looking for the exact shade and am pretty flexible). I really loved the way the design and the pink color I picked for the rest of my nails, as it really went with the ice cream theme. Although Joey told me that my nails would last 4 weeks, my nails lasted beyond that (and never chipped or lifted. Being in health care, I don't baby my hands and I also wash them constantly, honestly these were probably the best nails I have ever had done). The only reason I took them off was because it really need a fill since my nails had grown over. Joey told me that she had not done an ice cream cone before and she was also happy with her results too. Now this is my first time getting my nails done in Canada and am not sure if it is not customary to get a hand massage and lotion on your hands after a manicure or not. I didn't get one after this manicure but have always had it done with the nail salons in California and also in Hawaii where I have gotten my nails done. Not a big deal, but I wished I had brought my own lotion to put on since my hands were dry. But overall, I am very happy with my experience and would come back the next time I visit Markham in the future. Please note that they do accept credit card but there is a credit card fee.
