The issue I deal with (dysphagia, which is trouble swallowing) was not one she had worked a lot with before; she did a lot of research, which I was very impressed with. I waited a little over a month before giving my review just so I can give a thorough one.. as these things could take time.. here it goes! I can't say enough positive things about Nancy.. I have been contemplating hypnosis for a long time. While traditional therapy is very helpful (as long as you find the perfect match), this type of therapy digs so much deeper, it digs into a place you can't reach in your waking life.. One of my struggles is sugar dependency, in the past year (2022) I have gained a significant amount of weight, which has caused me to feel dissatisfied and sluggish.. knowing that I can lose weight and go back to my ideal weight, (I've done that before), I knew it was time to tackle the root of the issue.. so that's when I found Nancy. We first connected over the phone (she was kind, patient and listened attentively), after that (and because Nancy's practice is at the coast and I live in Portland) we had our first session over the phone, it was mainly us talking about what I'm looking for in my weight loss journey and her giving me helpful information that is tailored to my needs. It was great, right after we hung up I immediately had a shift (later on she told me I was probably in hypnosis without realizing it). We met in person the following week for my in-person hypnotherapy session. It was so relaxing and soothing.. The session was recorded and given to me so I may listen to it on a daily basis for a month.. I was able to upload the recording to my cellphone so I have it handy. I did this religiously every day. It sounds like I'm exaggerating but believe me when I tell you that I no longer have these obsessive cravings (from the day of our phone session!), I do enjoy a little bit of sweets but do NOT obsess over that or think about it like I used to. Dessert was more important to me than an actual meal... I'm sure there are lots of people out there that can relate to that. This has been a 100% success story. My 13 year old son had not only been struggling with his confidence with his competitive sports, but also seemed to not be having fun playing anymore. Nancy Wheeler is a caring and insightful individual. I researched different hypnotherapists to go to in the Portland area and chose her for several reasons: she had great reviews, she was a woman (I prefer women for certain things) and highly educated in her field. In our first phone call, she correctly guessed that I was calling her for help with weight loss. I have tried many fad diets and various things to lose weight and they would work for a while but ultimately would not work. A little over 10 years ago my sister sent me to Nancy, to get me to quit smoking cigarettes. I was a truck driver and smoking a little over two and a half to three packs of Marlboro Reds a day. I did not want to quit, I wanted everyone to quit bugging me about quitting and I didn't really think this would work. I have had exactly two puffs one from a cigarette, and and one from a vape machine and I have been tobacco-free ever since. I went to see Nancy to get help with ongoing anxiety issues. She was very welcoming and made me feel comfortable from the very first visit. She gave me several different exercises to try at home between our initial visit and our second visit (which included the hypnosis) and I really felt like my anxiety had decreased compared to before my visit. My anxiety attacks decreased from the exercises she'd given me, which was something I wasn't expecting (but it was very welcome). I was greatly disappointed by Nancy Wheeler. First, her rates are by the hour and she ran over the hour and charged me for a second hour without prior consent. Second, she didn't hypnotize me. She talked about her ex-husband and other trauma. I could get a therapist if I wanted one. Third, she called me the day before my second appointment, told me that I wasn't ready to hold the appointment, and then proceeded to complain that I hadn't called her earlier. I had been ready to attend the appointment and give her a second chance after the first appointment went so badly, but that was my limit. If she wanted to reschedule, that was all she would have had to say. Don't blame it on the customer. Total failure to meet any of the objectives or expectations. read more

I am in awe of this incredibly talented hypnotherapist. Concerned, committed, thorough, caring and dedicated describes Nancy's approach in dealing with those with problems in a multitude of areas. I first met with Nancy about 13 years ago. At that time I had been a smoker since the age of 12 (I was 50 at the time). I consumed 2+ packs of cigarettes a day. I had tried counseling, group theray, nicotine patches and gum, support groups etc. to no avail. I went to Nancy desperate to try to quit.... In her gentle, non judgemental manner she explored my motivations, my resources, my potential pitfalls and incorporated these and much more into the hypnotherapy. On the way home I could not help but laugh I felt SO good. After all my prior attempts to stop, my friends and family were doubtful Nancy could help. I have not smoked a cigarette or used any tobacco substance since that evening. A few years ago, after suffering a rapid series of painful experiences, including the death of my life partner, I became very depressed and began using alcohol in excess, not eating well or taking care of myself in any way. This resulted in my coming very close to death and ending up in ICU for 15 days, a nursing home for 3 months and in an assisted living institution for 6 months. I was sober for 14 months but eventually slipped back into drinking daily again. This time, I recognized the path I was heading down and went to Nancy to see if she could help. I went to the first session without the hypnosis and was surprised to find that I already felt motivated to quit. I finished off the couple shots I had in the house and tossed the bottle away. I stayed away from alcohol for about 2 weeks, then had a short 2 day relapse which resulted in a horrible hangover and confusion. I went back for the second session which included the hypnosis...and the difference was amazing. I have lost the desire to drink, I am eating well, exercising, socializing and feeling great. You can find less expensive and less experienced hynotists on Groupon etc. or in mass hypnosis sessions in convention centers , and I have known people who have quit smoking for a period of time using these methods...but I know of no one who has refrained from smoking from these sources for more than a year. I do have one friend who has remained free of cigarettes using a less expensive form of hypnosis, but he admits he sometimes, even after years is 'white knuckling' it. A few weeks ago he asked me if I knew the world would end in a few days would I take up smoking and drinking again...he was surprised when I said absolutely not, I would want to enjoy the last days of my life. He on the other hand stated he would definitely smoke and drink. Hypnosis isn't magical...but I suspect Nancy may be. She has been doing this for almost 20 years and it is evident that she continues to enjoy what she does and strives to learn and become even better. I have absolutely no hesitancy in recommending her services to anyone in need of them for smoking, drinking, anxiety, grief, weight control and a multitude of other issues. With Nancy's help, my life has turned so much more positive than I ever would have expected.
