I have a 6 year old laptop where the hinge to the screen had broken quite badly. I originally took it to PC World for repair. This involved a large amount of bureaucracy and they kept threatening that they might wipe all the data and reinstall the operating system. They took it in and after a week said that it couldn't be repaired because the parts were unobtainable.
I took it to NanoTech who, quickly and unfussily, made the repair with the correct parts. When I got it back, I found that it was overheating round the on/off button and would fail to restart when hot. They took it in again, repaired it quickly again and did not ask for any more money, although it is quite possible that the over-heating had been a separate problem, unrelated to the hinge.
I thoroughly recommend this service, although be warned that the shop opening times are very unpredictable. read more
