Getting your picture in front of one of the iconic Napa Valley signs is a must do. It's fun and always great to visit this landmark in person. There are two "Welcome to Napa Valley" signs. One is located south of the town of Napa, near the intersection of St. Helena Highway and Oakville Cross Road. The other is located north of Calistoga, also on St. Helena Highway. Both signs are identical and welcome visitors to the Napa Valley wine region. These signs were installed long ago when Napa Valley was not as popular or well known in order to draw tourism. These signs were installed in 1949 and every year it seems to grow in popularity to get your picture in front of one of these signs. The southern sign is located at 7647 St. Helena Highway, and the northern sign is at 3996 St. Helena Highway. It's important to note that due to their popularity they draw crowds. It's best to go early if possible to skip the crowds and waiting to get your picture taken because once people start wine tasting this place gets a lot busier. Welcome to Napa Valley!! Who doesn't like to be welcomed? I know that I always feel good to be genuinely welcomed somewhere. The Napa Valley has two Welcome signs to greet travelers to the region. Both signs are quite cool. One sign is located north of Yountville. We pulled over and took pics with the Welcome sign that was just south of Calistoga. They make for terrific photo opportunities. Classic photo stop in Napa The "Welcome To Napa Valley" Sign is a Landmark in Napa. There are actually two signs that are both located along Highway 29. Highway 29 (also known as the Saint Helena Highway) is the main freeway that will take you through the valley so just watch out for it, you have two chances LoL :) One is in Oakville past Napa Cellars and right across the street from the vineyards of Cardinale Winery (south of Robert Mondavi Winery). This is the more well-known location of the two for those photo ops. We made a pit stop at Yountville and started to head towards Rutherford and there it was by the train tracks. The sign is huge and you'll probably spot a few tourists here taking those selfies. The second is up between Calistoga and St Helena right near Larkmead Lane but closer to Maple Lane. Nothing says "You are here" like a photo at a Welcome sign. This particular one in Napa Valley is along Highway 29. There's plenty of space to park and is just a skip over the railroad tracks. Thanks to our friends who pointed it out! We made sure to make it a pit stop on the way out, after we finished wine tasting at the nearby St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery. But, wait. Would we be too tipsy by then?? Hmmm. About three hours later, we arrived. Thanks to our responsible driver for remembering because we were all giggles in the back seat! This is one of the ultimate stops in Napa Valley if you are a tourist and even a local! If you're going towards Saint Helena, it may be tricky to turn left and pull over due to the incoming traffic. But I would definitely recommend pulling over to take a picture with friends and family on the way back! It felt a little steep going over the gravel area. I saw the sign on our drive to the wineries and thought about making a stop on our way back. We had such a great time checking out a couple of wineries that we all collectively forgot about it until I saw the back sign. Parked on the slightly mud-ridden roadside and snapped a few pictures of the parental units. (They were the tourists. It made a great souvenir for both of them!) Curious about a couple of things, though: 1) There's a sign stating it's (the Napa Valley Wine Train, I guess?!) private property and that parking and trespassing isn't allowed. But the whole place is open for anyone to park and take pictures and the like. If this was the case, why was the welcome sign placed here? 2) Piggybacking off #1, I understand this isn't located closer to the city center of Napa, but I feel it should be. Add a few cemented parking spots, maybe entry and exit lanes and we're in business. But it ain't broken, so why fix it, right?! Not complaining, really. Just wondering is all. A definite stop to make for tourists! Just be careful where you park (If it's damp/wet, you might end up walking on mud) and be mindful of trains coming through (if at all.) read more

Yes, the "wine is bottled poetry" quote is as cheesy as all get-out, but there's something special about the Welcome to Napa Valley sign. The sign greets visitors to the area, and is located along busy Highway 29 among Oakville's vineyards. This is THE place to get a great photo, and is a must-do for first-time tourists visiting wine country. There's a nice dirt area for parking, and access is very easy. The sign is popular around dusk, so be prepared to wait. It is also a stop on most wine tours (limo drivers love bringing their passengers here), so try to come at "off" hours to avoid the Valley's most annoying tourist groups. Be careful, too: the train tracks are very close. Not many trains come by but when the Napa Wine Train barrels down the track, you need to be very alert. read more

The north one is a dozen miles away at 3996 St Helena Highway in Calistoga. That could take 15 minutes and it could be two hours, with the traffic. Depending on which way the Sun is facing and the shadows on your face, you may get a better result from one or the other. "Welcome to this world famous wine growing region" across the top and "... and the wine is bottled poetry..." on the right side. At the moment, both signs have banners on them "We (heart) first responders!" because of course their work fighting fires here. This is THE spot to stop for your tourism shots. read more

THE best photo stop in Napa! It was one of the highlights of our trip in May 2011. It's such a neat feeling to stand here. The outside vibe near all the wineries was wonderful. This was our first stop. We didn't want to vacay without stopping here. Thankfully we had the area to ourselves for 20 minutes. I would highly recommend stopping here, no matter what. read more

Ahhh, the obligatory picture at the Napa welcome sign. Of course one has to stop here and take a picture while in the Napa area!! It is right across from one of my favorite wineries in the area and literally right off the highway. I love the the parking area here is HUGE! There is room for everyone to park. Make sure to stop here for your "must" take picture in Napa Valley!! There is apparently 2 signs in the Napa area that are the same on opposite ends. Go to the one that you are closer to and get your photo op! read more

There is not much to rate here, I had the opportunity to enjoy a moment with my wife at the great sign of Napa. Luckily no one was around us and it was close to a tasting room we visited. The view behind the sign is spectacular, making the pics you take with the sign that much more special. Green grass, nature, mountains, railroad tracks. I've stopped here a few times with guests so they can have their picture taken. It's usually not too crowded and parking space is pretty good. Strangers are usually cool with helping each other out by taking pictures for one another PROS: - Big beautiful sign - Space to pull off and park - Great idea for those adventuring here CONS: - The sign could have a little sprucing with color - Grounds underneath sign could use cleaning up, maybe artificial turf to provide a gorgeous Napa look that you expect - A sign on the other side of the road facing that direction couldn't hurt. It is a tourist stop. But make the trip and snap a pic next to the rail tracks with the vineyards. We actually saw a wedding shoot which was a fun idea. Only takes a few mins for a free iconic photo. read more
