He was bragging about how great the grass is in his yard compared to other places in America. He was bragging about how the city of Chicago has abundant water while people who love God have to ration water in the Western United States. He falsely claimed that the Chicagoland area is the greatest place in the world, yet it still harbors so many abortion clinics, pornography centers, and countless evils. The church itself is more of a circus, filled with fog machine smoke, theatrical lighting, and all the fakery of a performance rather than service on to God. Along with all of his bragging and arrogance, he also asked people to give him $10 million. My stomach was literally sick from what I saw in this arrogant building housing people who are more interested in texting and looking on their Facebook then what this leader of this organization has to say. Gods people are starving. The lost need saved. But I don't think any of those two things matter to this church.

Looks like we're not the only ones that experience this. There is definitely a difference between a person or a place when you look at a simple question. Are they simply Christians which means that they believed Jesus died for our sins or are they Christ followers which means that they try to live as Christ would live. Helping people. Being loving. Honest. Fair. And all of those wonderful traits. I have no doubt that the people at this place are Christians. But they're kind of Christians being ruled by this world. Sad really.

It has changed immensely, with a new pastor. On the first Sunday I returned, Pastor Marty preached that, "one of his favorite sermons was Jonathan Edwards 'Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God'. You should all look it up." This barbaric 18th century sermon is one of the original fire and brimstone, you're all going to Hell sermons. Just what I didn't need while wrestling with intense guilt in my life. The next few Sunday's he regularly pressured and pan-handled about paying HIM 10% of your income (tithe to the local church). Infact, the whole season of Lent was to be dedicated to just this practice. After a few weeks of this, I was reminded of why I was disgusted with church and struggled with Christianity. Of course, I am never returning to that church. If ever there was someone to put in my life to help me deconvert to atheism, Pastor Marty Sloan would be that guy.

Instead of offering guidance, he repeatedly told her to "do it properly," but never explained what he wanted her to change. He then began questioning her religion, asking whether she was Catholic or Christian. After she responded that she is Catholic, he said, "then do it properly" she was unsure what he wanted her to do differently, then he said again, "Are you sure you're Catholic?" Again she replied yes, I am Catholic. Shortly before this interaction, the priest had taken the Eucharist away from a young man who had said he was Christian. The priest began scolding him while the young man respectfully was nodding that he understood. The situation was uncomfortable to witness and felt unnecessarily harsh. It seemed like a missed opportunity for a compassionate conversation about the Catholic faith, especially since the young man was attending Mass and clearly showing interest. Although my daughter ultimately received Communion, the interaction was prolonged and uncomfortable. She was not given clear instruction only public questioning about her faith. My daughter approached respectfully and reverently. Being questioned in that way, in front of others, left her embarrassed and shaken. She was crying when we got home, which was especially heartbreaking because she was the one who had asked to go to Mass that day. Reverence for the Eucharist is important. However pastoral guidance should reflect clarity, dignity, and compassion. Interactions like this can leave a lasting impression on young people who are trying to grow in their faith. I hope this feedback encourages more compassionate and thoughtful handling of similar situations in the future.

We attended a wedding here and if we sat on the traditional "bride " or " groom " side, we would not have been able to see as well as we were by sitting farther back. However, the acoustics in this church, are amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I attended a funeral here this past week and the choir just about had the foundation shaking ~ it was totally beautiful. First, they did a great job with this construction! It is a great improvement over the previous building and the building itself is unique. The murtis (God statues) are lovely. But I believe that they should not close the shrine for two hours in the middle of a Saturday. The gift shop was also closed. But the temple room looks neat and is quite large. FOOD: I went to the temple today in particular because they marketed a thali (combo platter) day on Facebook. The thalis were DELICIOUS! They did a Gujarati style one (likely to draw Swaminarayan Temple (BAPS) people. They did a South Indian style one (likely to draw HTGC and Balaji temple people). They also have their usual menu of South Indian snacks and pizza. My son had the Idli (fermented rice patty) and thought it was good. The sambhar (spiced soup) was very YUM. The biryani thali was very good and the biryani tasted like Shan spice biryani.. that is good. But service and price: it took 20 minutes to get my food and that was after I pushed a bit. Also, each thali was $16. That is not a lot for a thali at a restaurant... but it is for a thali at a temple. As comparison, the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Bartlett has a Gujarati that is so unbelievable delicious and costs under $10. So, I suggested the lower the price (while complimenting their chefs). If they keep doing the thalis, lower the prices and improve their service timing, I will change this to a 4 star (or better?). It is a good idea for them to have their normal menu and maybe one thali a weekend. Maybe one thali each weekend with a subji (curry) choice between two subjis? Just suggestions. Managing that many choices seems to be slowing them down a LOT. Anyway, ISKCON temples are known for their food. This is the only Chicagoland ISKCON temple with an all day kitchen, so I am REALLY hoping this gets a few adjustments! Cause it has great potential!
