Greater Cincinnati has quite a few good public school systems but Lakota is one of the best…read more The rapidly growing system currently claims two high-schools (grades 10-12), a freshman building (all 9th graders), four junior highs (7 and 8), ten elementary schools (1-6), and four early childhood centers (pre-school and kindergarten). The district has grown largely since I was there but I have heard only good things about recent developments. I attended Freedom Elementary and Lakota Ridge Junior High for K-8. Freedom has consistently been ranked a "Blue Ribbon" school and I had some amazing teachers there that I am still actually in touch with. Lakota Ridge was great, too. I did not attend a Lakota high school because my parents felt that the schools were too large (over 3,000 students) but I have good friends that went K-12 in the district and are currently very successful college students. The current statistic in Lakota is that 90% of grads attend college, pretty impressive for such a large district. I got a great base education at Lakota and would highly recommend the district to any parent moving to Cincinnati.

Lakota schools suck they underpay substitute teachers which causes the student to be subjected to…read morepeople who call themselves "egomaniacs" and charge them for "signatures" on their hall passes to use the restroom or even the infamous classroom mastrubator. Along with underpaying the subs they hire teachers who bully the students such as Vicky criswell who repeatedly mocks students in class reveals their grades and daily degrades any who cross her in front of their peers. The district also has no regard for their safety which shows quite evident when it takes -4 degree weather and -20 degree wind chill to call it when weeks before the weather was quite similar and the student parking lot laid covered in ice while the staff lot was dry. Lakota schools drop the ball in many areas especially when it comes the the most important part... the children.

I always enjoy visiting our Central Office HQ in Oxford- the city is the perfect college town setting, and our building blends in well to the landscape. Normally the staff works M-F, however if you're passing thru & want to get a tour/walk around, it can be arranged. Upon entrance, a staffer will ask you to sign in. That book alone is cool to peruse thru to see who all has visited beforehand! History is in every corner of the building, not limited to individual chapter history, communications with chapters (when print was the norm), books of membership forms, pictures, scrapbooks, etc. Every visit I've made never has enough time to go thru everything I want (being the detailed history nerd I am). I sincere appreciate how much time/effort/$$/etc is spent to our organization's preservation.

Now, I could be boring and write a review about how it's a great place to meet people with similar values and goals or about how my college experience wouldn't have been the same without it. I could write about how it prepares you for "the real world" and helped me get my current job. I could write all that. But I'm not. I'm going to let you in on a little secret I have about DSP... ...It's a great place to find a date. Okay, I'm sorry, but it is. Just think about it: You know he's in business so he's going to be making some massive money in the near/far future. You know he's somewhat responsible and can manage his time well because he went through pledging. And you know he has social skills because he was able to bond with the bros at whatever school he goes to in order to get a bid. Financially stable. Responsible. Sociable. It's like the frat just screened him for you! Awesome!! (Seriously speaking though, joining Delta Sigma Pi was the best thing that ever happened to me and I'm totally willing to talk about it. But honestly, writing everything that's happened in the past four years isn't going to fit in this review box so if you're interested, talk to someone in DSP about it. But I think that might have been different if I'd gone to Grandview Elementary. It's a small urban school. It sits on a bluff in Bellevue overlooking the city and the Cincinnati skyline. Wonderful. But even with the blinds drawn and the view obscured, it'd be a great school. The teachers seem to care. No one gives me the impression of clocking time; of winding down until summer vacation hits or a juicy public employees pension can be tapped. Here's what sold me on the school: My oldest went to kindergarten there. We were unhappy with it. From first grade through fourth, my daughter went to Catholic schools. Because of several problems there, we decided it was time to move on. I called several schools and on a lark called Grandview. The principal that was just starting her first year when my daughter was in kindergarten now had several years to reshape the school. What caught my attention though was she still remember my daughter, her interests, and her hobbies...and my too-young-for-school daughter's name. And me and my wife. That's a level of attention paid that we still find permeating the school. This is an urban school with too much poverty and young, broken families, but the school offers those kids and all kids a chance. It's one I wish I had had a chance to go to.

The thing to keep in mind with Grandview is that you aren't just getting a great school--you are getting a great community and a true neighborhood school. We are able to walk to any number of our friends and neighbors homes for gatherings, and it's a regular occurrence for us to be walking down the street and my son to see his classmates (and even teachers and staff). Bellevue's walkability, community garden, community potlucks, and a closeness we had formed with some residents and young families here, are literally the reasons why we were strongly considering moving from Fort Thomas to Bellevue. Then, when we met members of the Board of Education and Robb Smith, the superintendent, we were sold. Grandview's staff has been nothing but supportive of the kids I've seen coming and going, from Daphne (the crossing guard) knowing each kid by name, to Mrs. Young and Mr. Fuller high fiving and greeting each kid coming in with a smile and/or high five. We're glad we made the jump, and look forward to many more years of our family being Tigers. #ChooseBellevue

Horrible! Honestly, just go to Bicks instead. I had a very…read morebad experience with my driving instructor -- he had zero patience, even though I'm a brand-new driver. He rushed me to drive on dark streets with no lights, and he didn't even turn on the brights. He also rushed me through my maneuverability without giving me enough time to check my mirrors. On top of that, he kept repeating himself even when I was clearly doing exactly what he told me to do. If you have teens with driving anxiety, or new drivers with little to no experience, DO NOT go to this driving school!
