Although it's never easy to blend in as a tourist in a small town, this place may afford you the least attention, which is good if you're concious of stranger danger and all that... The restaurant, on the right hand side when you're facing the building is called Billy Macs and the decor can be described as pure country steak house. There's a salad bar, of course! Featuring 50s orange segment and sultana delights, as well as a couple of hot dishes like cauliflower cheese and a pea and carrot mix. AMAZING! The meals are moderately priced and serve sizes are turbo charged. You go up to the counter to place your order and I can't recommend enough that you order steak at these places... when in cattle country, you can be sure it's what they do best. I've even had a wagyu number here, which was close to one of the best steaks I've ever eaten... 5 star included! To the left of the restaurant and across the bottle shop driveway is a bar which features a couple of pool tables, a video jukebox and RRREEEEaaaaallllyyy cheap beer. I think I was paying $4 a pint last time. Just be warned. If you're with attractive ladies, the locals will get on the tom toms and local lads will appear from nowhere in the once desserted bar!

Convenient to the Coonawarra and Penola wine regions this is a wonderful spot for a rural getaway. Pinkerton can cater for up to 9 people, across 5 bedrooms with two bathrooms and three toilets. This is the only self catering cottage I've stayed in where you get a complimentary bottle of wine and full breakfast provisions! ... I don't just mean a box of cereal, although that is provided, you also get eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, fruit juice, bread and spreads, Beerenberg jams, tea, coffee and milk. The American style dripulator coffee is delicious and fortifys you well for a long day of wine tasting! I have stayed in so many houses like this that have virtually nothing provided, so if you want to cook for yourself you'll have to go and buy salt and pepper. Pinkerton is the opposite of this, and what a joy it is! If you read the visitors book, you will see that the place has even hosted the likes of Ricky-Lee Coulter. The furnishings are comfortable and provide plenty of living space... the photos on the website are a little out of date and the space is actually more stylish than they portray. There is even room to get away from each other if you need to. Beds are comfy and there is heating and cooling throughout. Great to use as a base to explore the area!

Yeah, as a pub, it really wasn't all that flash, and like a lot of these pubs, they pretty much have the same, limited, selection of beers on tap. Honestly, it really isn't a place that I'd make much of an effort to visit a second time, particularly since there does happen to be better pubs near by.

I get the feeling that the Bushmans is a real family joint, their restaurant caters for kids and they finish up dining relatively early, in true country style. Everything seems to come with a jacket potato wrapped in alfoil (or is that just me?), not that I mind! It totally reminds me of my mums cooking, and what cold hearted person wouldn't love their own mum's cooking. They seem to do a lot of functions, birthday parties and the like. One thing I would say about eating out in Naracoorte on the weekend is that Everyone in town does, so make sure you book, or you may be going hungry!

The units come with very generous supplies of food, so much eggs and bacon in fact that we couldn't keep up with the supply. The lady who lets the cottages out and brings new supplies is Dianne, I think, and she's very nice. The cost of using the units compares very well with other accommodation in the area. While not that old, there's no hiding that the units are aging somewhat - a few patches on walls, a few tap fittings past their use by dates, etc. The absence of wifi is very strange and out of keeping with the times. All in all, a terrific spot to stay if you're exploring the area but the units need some refurbishing and updating within the next year.
