My ob was not on call that evening (sad, because he's great!), but I had the privilege of receiving care from Dr. lao! My first baby I got the epidural, but this one I was hoping to go unmedicated. MAN is that so much easier said than done! As I lingered for awhile at 9/10 centimeters, I was becoming more and more tired, scared, and indecisive on my next steps for bringing my son into the world. Every contraction made me less confident that I could do it, but Dr Lao was one of the 3 in the room who reassured me and helped me through! My biggest praise has to go to her CALM CALM demeanor. What a difference that made! She was incredibly patient with my indecisiveness, never pressed me for what she wanted over what I wanted, but also (so) kindly gave her recommendations and gave me both the space to think things through and all the options before me. She also took great care and extra steps in physically delivering my son, and honored my wish to delay cord clamping until the cord turned white. Never with a hint of annoyance either. Thank you Dr. Lao!!

His referrals to specialists are all great quality. He unfortunately was not on call for my emergency c section, but he stopped in my room and made me feel that I was in good hands. His humor is very dry and he is very direct, but for someone with a high risk pregnancy, a little laughter feels nice to break the tension. Dr Ashrafian and his NP were equally wonderful. I saw Dr Ashrafian twice postpartum for mastitis, and she comforted me while I cried in pain and exhaustion. Forget the negative reviews. Yes, he's always in a hurry, and has a very dry sense of humor, but you're in good hands under his care. He is wonderful at what he does. I promise you.

On October 9, 2024, I was induced at 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant. In the beginning, some staff members were attentive and helpful, but after midnight everything changed. The care became careless and dismissive. I had to receive the epidural three different times because I could still fully feel my contractions and was in extreme pain. Each time, my fiancé or my mom had to leave the room and ask nurses to come check on me because no one was responding on their own. Every time, I was told, "You're fine," even though I was terrified and clearly not fine. One nurse checked my dilation and told me I was 7 cm dilated. I was crying and screaming in pain when Dr. Akerman walked in and said, "What is going on?" I explained that I could still feel every contraction despite the epidural. Instead of taking me seriously, he laughed and said, "We've already given you so much." He then said he was going to check my dilation again. I told him I had literally just been checked 5-10 minutes earlier, but he ignored me. My fiancé asked him to please go slowly and explain what he was doing because I was already extremely sore from how many cervical checks had been done. At that point, I already had a catheter and another internal monitor inserted, so I was already in significant discomfort. Despite being asked multiple times to be gentle, Dr. Akerman ignored us and aggressively inserted his hand, causing me to scream in pain in a way I never have before. He continued moving his fingers around roughly while I cried out. I felt completely violated. Afterward, he suddenly stated I was 9 cm dilated, which confused me because only minutes earlier I had been told I was 7 cm. My fiancé became upset and confronted him, but Dr. Akerman completely ignored him. At that point, I decided I wanted a C-section because I could no longer handle the pain or emotional distress. They prepared me for surgery and took my fiancé and mom to another room to wait. Then, moments later, they returned and told me another emergency C-section was being done first, meaning I had to wait another 15 minutes while still screaming in pain and discomfort. I remember thinking, "Is mine not an emergency too?" When it was finally my turn, they administered anesthesia, but I was given so much that I blacked out completely. I was not awake for the birth of my son. I never got to experience hearing or seeing him come into the world, or seeing my fiancé cut the umbilical cord. It has been over a year and a half, and I still carry the trauma from this experience every single day. What should have been the most beautiful moment of my life became one of the most painful and violating experiences I have ever gone through. I will never return here again.

If you plan to have a c-section exclusively and get aesthetic treatments after. Cons: After going several times, I realized this office can be disengenuous, and felt like they wanted your money more than the care. The care provided felt fake. You can tell by how bougie they look. They promote a lot of superficial services like body sculpting after pregnancy, vitamin shots, etc. You get charged for everything. And the front office doesn't always let you know this until you get sent a bill in the mail. They also would do everything they can to keep you in office, including trying to get you to schedule exclusively with their ultrasound technician, who is only there on Tuesdays. For my last ultrasound, instead of being flexible and scheduling me earlier or recommending another place for imaging, the front desk made me wait 2 weeks out for the next available appointment. By then, the tech said my baby was breech. I'm new to babies and didn't realize what that meant. I thought it meant there was time to flip him and that they would talk to me about ways to unbreech him. They otherwise just told me he was breech and did not elaborate. They also scheduled me with the nurse practitioner who also had trainees look at me without talking to me first. You can only ask so many questions. NP didn't mention anything about what a breech baby meant. Fast forward two weeks at 38 weeks. I see the doctor and she says, baby is breech and almost immediately wants to schedule a c-section. Like, whoa, I researched online and some articles say the doctor typically tells you these things starting week 30 give or take. But they went straight to the c-section. Honestly, I'm upset this was brought up so late into the pregnancy, as it could have given me more preparation time... Even mentally would have liked to have been prepared. Here, I only had two weeks to figure it out, and did not even know you had to do it before week 39..! I wasn't going to jeopardize the health of my baby and the surmounting stress of delivering so we went ahead with the scheduled C-section. But they don't care about what your outcomes are, they only care about the money. And it's really obviously that a big surgically procedure is going to pay them out way more than a natural delivery. The doctor did everything she could to convince me how good the surgery was going to be. I told her my concerns, and my biggest was the recovery that is needed with any surgery takes time. It really felt like my concerns were brushed under the rug. Also, if I wanted her to answer questions, I needed to take my partner with me, otherwise, the doctor rushed me out the door. Their office also sucks at communication. I should have taken the first red flag when I was billed for gender testing, but they chose an out-of-network lab. Not only that, they didn't tell me it was out of network. I still had to pay. And the biggest issue came when they filled out the pfml paperwork and for my work, and I had my pfml time reduced despite having a c-section. Knowing they will probably just charge me again, I didn't bother, and made sure that my time in their office after delivery was done. Months later, I'm still billed, for the hospital procedure, and other than the surgery, doctor literally only looked at me for like 5 minutes and I'm being billed, $1000+. On top of that, they upsold a silicone strip that's literally only 6 inches, and it's $80; newsflash, me: it's a fraction of the price online. RIP. I ended up calling their office one last time to close any outstanding bills, and I really wanted to laugh in their face when the admin said if I don't I wouldn't be able to come back. LOL! The assumption that I cared enough to do that. I just care about my credit score. I'm not coming back ever. Overall, I don't recommend this office for lack of sincere service, and very bad communication. For something so big like a pregnancy, I'm really disappointed and I really want to kick myself for screening this office better, and went somewhere else. This office just happened to be in the right area and the hospital that I wanted, but could have just chosen just about anybody else.

Wait time can get pretty long depending on the day. For the positive, I would say that after meeting everyone, Dr. Lao was the best here. She was caring, empathic, and knowledgeable. She listened to every concern. She was also a great surgeon. My pregnancy and delivery experience were made better by her. Sarah who works the front desk was also very friendly and sweet. Now for the negative. I had an IUD placement at the office by Dr. Barr that ended up being a very traumatic experience. I received a diagnosis afterward that the IUD perforated through my uterus into another organ. I wish that the deployment was stopped if something didn't seem right. Some offices offer ultrasound-guided IUD insertion, so look into that instead. I felt like I went through hell and back the subsequent months after insertion. The office tried to fix it, but the experience just went downhill from there. I had multiple procedures, but it couldn't be removed. I requested CT/MRI scans, but didn't get them. The IUD location was discussed as possibly being in the stomach cavity, which it wasn't. Scheduling appts were also difficult. I ended up going to UCI and thankfully met an experienced Obgyn who found it through ultrasound, confirmed with MRI scans, and collaborated with another specialist to remove it for me. All in all, I would still recommend Dr. Lao for pregnancy and childbirth. However, I would be hesitant to recommend anything else here.

When I first became a patient of Dr. Debra Sedaghat in 2023, I had a wonderful experience. I felt heard, cared for, and genuinely supported throughout my pregnancy. Unfortunately, when I returned in 2025, my experience was very different. During many of my appointments, I felt talked over rather than listened to. In the last month of my pregnancy, when I was experiencing significant discomfort and pain, I did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously. In February, I informed Dr. Sedaghat that this would be my final pregnancy and that I wanted a tubal ligation after delivery. I completed and signed the necessary consent paperwork so that insurance approval could be obtained. The week of Valentine's Day, I was not feeling well and asked if I could be examined. I was told that if I felt that poorly, I should go to the hospital and that I would only be admitted if I was at least 3 cm dilated. During that appointment, Dr. Sedaghat also shared that she had not slept in several days because of work. While I understand physicians are under tremendous pressure, I left feeling dismissed rather than reassured. I delivered my daughter on February 13. Later, I learned that Dr. Sedaghat was out of town at the time. Whether related or not, it left me wondering if that played a role in how my concerns were handled leading up to delivery. At my six-week postpartum appointment, I asked about scheduling my tubal ligation. To my surprise, I was asked to sign the consent paperwork again. When I mentioned that I had already completed it before delivery, I was told there were additional forms that needed to be signed. I was then told my surgery would likely take place by the end of May. Based on that information, I communicated with my employer and made arrangements for time off work. A few weeks later, I received a letter stating that the authorization had been denied. When I contacted my insurance company, I was informed that a duplicate form had been submitted. After multiple calls to the office, I continued receiving different estimates regarding when my surgery would be scheduled, ranging from May to June or even early July. Eventually, my surgery was scheduled at the end of May. During my hospital stay, I witnessed interactions that made me uncomfortable. There appeared to be frustration regarding pre-operative preparation and blood work, and I felt that staff members were spoken to in a manner that seemed unprofessional. The nurses were trying to help, and the overall atmosphere increased my anxiety before surgery. My review is based solely on my personal experience. While I had an excellent experience with Dr. Sedaghat in 2023, my experience in 2025 and 2026 left me feeling unheard, frustrated, and disappointed. Communication regarding my postpartum surgery was inconsistent, and I did not feel supported during the final stages of my pregnancy or during the surgical scheduling process.
