Maverick with our son
Renee R.

We brought our Maverick to Natchez Trace veterinarian in August of 2016. He was diagnosed with a very unique disease, called lumbosacral stenosis. Maverick went from walking in one week to almost lying on the ground and not able to walk. This disease is very aggressive. We had another veterinarian tell us that we had to put Maverick to sleep. We were truly devastated, and at the time Maverick was very young. I just couldn't accept putting him down so fast before I research some different options. I came across Natchez Trace veterinarian. I started reading some other stories about acupuncture on his website. So I gave Dr Smith's office a call to make Maverick an appointment. And I am so happy that we did because we gave Maverick a second chance on life. Maverick want from getting treatments there on his back acupuncture treatments. Into our amazement he was up and running within a couple of weeks of treatment. I honestly could not believe it. And let me tell you our family truly amazed by what Dr Smith has done for Maverick. Maverick live to have four more great years of life. sad to say he did pass on though because he end up getting cancer later on. But we had to enjoy him for a few more years and he lived happy and comfortable and was running and playing like he did before he was diagnosed with the disease. all I can say is, Dr Smith and his staff are miracle workers and I thank them so much for everything they've done for our family. We still go to Dr Smith for our newest member of our family Romeo.

Day after surgery. Massive swelling, internal bleeding. Recommendation was to get her up and walking.

Do not take your beloved pet to NTV. After hernia surgery, Dr. Smith sent her home hours later with poor pain management. She became anemic, stopped breathing and I had to rush her to Nashville Veterinary Specialists at 4 in the morning. They saved her life. She was in the ICU for 36 hours as we waited to see if she would make it. The surgery was a hack job with very dismissive care. Do NOT recommend.

My miniature dachshund was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in late October 2017. After grieving the news for a few days I got my wits about me and scheduled a call with Dr Smith. In addition to a small steroid dose daily, I incorporated several natural supplements and a Chinese herbal into my dogs daily routine. I didn't think she'd make it to Christmas 2017 and here we are in June and she is doing SO great! I feel certain that our efforts have helped prolong her life this long and I don't see her quitting anytime soon. A simple hour phone call with someone knowledgeable about natural remedies = priceless!!!

Our kitty Butter after his Entropion surgery. Dr. Smith and the team at NTVS did an amazing job!

From the very first visit, they treated us and our pup with so much compassion, professionalism, and genuine care. They took the time to explain what was happening, walked us through treatment options, and made sure we felt supported every step of the way. What impressed us even more was how they continued to help once we had to travel again. When our dog's condition worsened after we left Nashville, Parkers Paws stayed in touch, gave us guidance remotely, and made sure we never felt alone in navigating a really tough situation. That level of follow-through and dedication is rare and meant the world to us. If you're in Nashville and need a vet, I cannot recommend Parkers Paws highly enough. They are the kind of veterinary team you hope to find but rarely do.

Giving Parker's Paws Animal Hospital a one-star review is not something I do lightly. In fact, it…read morehas taken me two years and 5 months to gather the courage to write this. In the interest of full transparency, I want to acknowledge that my husband and I recently declined a settlement offer from Parker's Paws so that I would have the freedom to share our experience publicly. My sincere hope is that by telling my sweet Shorty's story, I can spare another family from the heartbreak we have endured since December 2023. If you don't have time to read my entire review, please feel free to email me at Justice4Shorty2024@gmail.com, and we can schedule a time to talk by phone. On December 20, 2023, we took Shorty to Parker's Paws because she had diarrhea, wasn't eating, and was extremely lethargic. After hours of testing, she was sent home. The next morning, around 7:00 a.m., I received a phone call from Dr. Sarah Spence asking me to bring her back immediately. Her kidney and liver values were dangerously high, and she needed urgent treatment, IV fluids, and additional testing. We rushed her back, where she spent the entire day. When we picked her up that evening, Dr. Spence asked if Shorty had ever received the leptospirosis vaccine. I told her I wasn't sure because Shorty had been under Parker's Paws' care for several years, and I assumed they had administered whatever vaccines she needed. Dr. Spence told me she had spoken with Dr. Erin Manuel, who had previously treated Shorty, and that the vaccine had apparently been "overlooked." I am not a medical professional; I am simply repeating what I was told at the time. At the time, I don't think we fully understood how critically ill she was. Because it was Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we were allowed to take her home and administer IV fluids ourselves. On December 26, my husband took her back for follow-up bloodwork. Her numbers were still dangerously high, and we were immediately referred to BluePearl Animal Hospital to see a specialist. At BluePearl, Shorty came under the care of the incredibly kind and compassionate Dr. Carly Waugh. For the next eight days, between Christmas and New Year's, we visited every single day to bring her food, sit with her, and love on her. Walking away from her every evening was one of the hardest things we have ever experienced. If you aren't familiar with leptospirosis, I encourage you to educate yourself. It is a devastating disease that is highly contagious--not only to other dogs but also to humans. Thank God that Parker's Paws had not overlooked the leptospirosis vaccines for our other two dogs. Had they missed those as well, we would have had three critically ill dogs all at the same time. We first brought Shorty to Parker's Paws on March 3, 2022, to establish her as a new patient. One of our other dogs, Jay Jay, had recently been diagnosed with cancer, so out of an abundance of caution we scheduled comprehensive senior wellness exams for two of our other dogs. During Shorty's senior panel, she was diagnosed with Cushing's disease. While Cushing's is relatively common in dogs, it requires lifelong medication and routine monitoring through ACTH stimulation tests every 30 to 90 days. Those appointments often required Shorty to spend hours at the clinic. Between her first appointment on March 3, 2022, and her final appointment--when Dr. K euthanized her on February 20, 2024--Shorty was seen at Parker's Paws nine separate times. In addition to her regular Cushing's monitoring, she was treated for an eye infection and underwent two surgeries while under their care. Yet during none of those visits--not one--did anyone ever mention that she was missing an important vaccination. Based on the records and recollections, this was never discussed with us. Routine preventive care should never be an afterthought. Looking back, it feels obvious to me that their main focus was on making money- on bloodwork, procedures, and surgeries, while, in my opinion, something as basic and critical as preventive vaccination was overlooked. I understand that people make mistakes. No veterinary practice is perfect. What has been hardest to accept is that, no one took responsibility for what happened. And from the bottom of my heart if we had ever received a sincere apology for their oversight, I probably wouldn't be writing this review today. To make matters even worse, after Shorty was euthanized on her final visit, Dr. K, the owner of Parker's Paws, told us they had "given us a discount." That comment has stayed with me ever since. At the moment we were grieving the loss of our beloved Shorty, being reminded of a discount felt deeply insensitive. I didn't need a discount I needed an apology. If you love your pets even a fraction as much as we love ours, I urge you to really do your research before choosing a veterinarian. If you would like to know more about our experience, please reach out. Susan

Our sweet senior dog is starting to need more and more veterinary care, and after a not-so-great visit elsewhere, we decided to try somewhere new. With a quick peek at their Yelp page, Belmont Animal Hospital seemed to be highly regarded by many pet parents around town, and one of our previous vets that we just adored had actually recently moved to this practice herself! We saw Dr. Nelson, who is thorough and detail-oriented while still being incredibly friendly to both myself and my dog. She addressed all of my concerns, scheduled a follow-up exam, and even began planning ahead for my pup's annual vaccines in a few months. I appreciate her thoughtfulness during the appointment, along with the attentiveness from both of the vet techs we saw! I felt that the prices were very fair, especially given the care we received. Obviously going to the vet isn't going to be cheap - but there are definitely some practices in ritzy parts of town that price gouge. This is not one of those places, thankfully, and I'm thrilled that they offer an online pharmacy that price matches to Chewy! Big thanks to the wonderful team at Belmont Animal Hospital ... it means so much to me and my husband that our dogs are in such capable and caring hands.

A Difficult Experience During a Painful Time…read more Losing a pet is incredibly hard, and when we faced the sudden decline of our beloved four-legged family member a year ago, we were emotionally vulnerable. Our regular vet recommended NVS when our senior dog suddenly couldn't move and was in obvious distress. We share this backstory to highlight our state of mind during our visit. After the initial exam, we were told our dog's condition could be terminal cancer or something else entirely, requiring surgery and tests for a definitive diagnosis. When we pressed for a prognosis, we received vague answers: days or weeks if it was terminal cancer, possibly years if it was something else. Given her advanced age, we questioned if putting her through surgery was truly in her best interest, and even asked about euthanasia, but received little guidance. The most jarring moment came when the surgeon, called in specially, told us, "I can give you five minutes to decide on the surgery. Then I leave" This comment, more than anything, shifted our focus from our pet's well-being to the surgeon's impatience. It left a lasting negative impression during an already agonizing decision-making process. Despite the uncertainty, and given less than ten minutes total to decide, we opted for surgery. The outcome was the worst-case scenario: terminal cancer. She might have weeks, maybe a few months. Ironically, the same surgeon who showed little empathy earlier offered the most poignant advice: "Be as present with her as you can." This, too, has stayed with us. During this stressful time, the discussion of costs arose. Over the phone, we were quoted upwards of $7,000, with an itemized breakdown including the initial exam, surgeon's consult, and surgical costs. We painstakingly confirmed the grand total multiple times, even writing it down for our records, as we were not at our best. We were told complications might make this go higher, but we would be called beforehand. At the end ended up around 10 thousand plus. There was no call. However, upon picking up our dog post-op, the bill was significantly higher. We were told we had "misheard" or "misunderstood," which we firmly disagreed with. They claimed the calls were recorded and they would listen back, leading us to believe the discrepancy would be resolved. We paid the inflated amount to take our dog home, but despite numerous follow-up calls, we never received a response or resolution regarding the overcharge. Our precious and loyal furbaby passed away just three weeks after the surgery. Now, with some distance, we can reflect on our experience. While we cannot blame NVS for her terminal condition, the overall lack of empathy and care shown towards both our pet and us during such a vulnerable time, coupled with the billing issue and subsequent unresponsiveness, lack oh empathy makes it impossible for us to recommend their services. One more thing the people at the front desk are just rude and cold with no c We still not hear from anyone to do a follow up on Torry and this means they don't care and just to hear their name make me sick. At the end of the day this place could and should be more understanding, emphatetic of the hard time when we deal with the health of our family members but for them is only money signs and like my grandmother used to say " actions speak Lauder then words? in this case no word nor actions.

I rushed my poor dog Fuzzy there in the middle of the night (a few months ago) after breathing hard for a few hours, hearing fluid in his lungs, and hoping they would do ANYTHING to help him. They snatched him up and ran him to the back but just stuck him in an O2 tank and devised a massive list of tests instead of beginning with the most crucial tests that HONEST veterinarians would've done immediately. They lied to me that he had calmed down and stopped panting and showed me their initial plan... around $5,000 of tests and many were double charges for the same thing! They invent ridiculous charges like "facility" and "Nurse on hand" like WHAT??? I'm paying for nurses to be where they already were even if they never looked at my dog??? I checked on Fuzzy and he was panting even harder and moaning terribly so I grabbed him and left because they were doing NOTHING to ease his stress and pain. They're LIARS and greedy scammers who have ZERO empathy for animals. I finally found a clinic who would run an ECG but it was too late and my sweet baby passed away from Pulmonary hypertension. Since then I've heard countless horror stories about the BluePearl franchise, the McDonald's of animal hospital services.
