I have been a customer of NCB over 50 years (since 1972) and I've always been impressed with their courteous, professional service. After I retired in 2008, I went from Capital Hill to the Chevy Chase branch. At CC, I used the drive-up window. Well, one day I needed a deposit slip so I went inside. To my surprise, the teller greeted me by name! That's right, the teller knew my name. No big deal, but it made my day. read more

This bank continues to go down hill. For the past two months I have had an issue with the bank returning returning payments made to a credit card, when stating I had put a hold on all payments. This was not correct, in fact the bank set a stop payment order on its own. At least twice I discussed this with the bank and was told the issue was corrected. It was not. In addition, I made real estate loan payments early and they were not properly credited. The bank said their system does not recognize early payments for future months, it only properly credits after that month's payment notice is issued. This results in late fees that eventually are removed after action by me. The bank is not consumer friendly. Now shifting accounts to a larger bank even though it is a nationwide institution. Sorry but can no longer recommend this local bank and its approaches that they have done no wrong. read more

I have been a bank customer for 4 years at the suggestion of a friend. I have tried to like this bank but I am underwhelmed. I find the tellers are more attentive to the drive thru than to customers waiting in line. Often there is no acknowledgement and I feel they wish the customers would go away. Last week I had to order some checks with a representative at one of the desks. She didn't even make an effort to greet me, seemed annoyed with me for infringing on her time, and never showed any courtesy for me as a customer. I will be withdrawing my money and closing my account this week and will suggest to my son to do the same. read more

Old school when that means a good thing. Neighborhood approach to banking, which is sorely missing in the 2020s. Their mortgage financing decisions are nuanced, which means that they get neighborhood pros (and maybe cons) that other banks miss. The tellers and bankers are super polite, many seem to have been working there for some time. It makes a customer service difference. Their fees are not as competitive as they could be, but they try harder. read more

Sadly this bank has changed and the old friendly attitude and spirit are gone. Walking in with the dog is something of the past - With the exception of David the front desks are empty and one must wait to be served. The woman behind the glass office on the right as one walks in has always an unfriendly - pissed off attitude. Dealt with her and never found her pleasant. The tellers continue to change with some good and some less friendly (one window teller kept chatting on the phone with her friend (about the items to wear at the cousin birthday's party) throughout the entire transaction (March 2016). We closed two mortgage loans and went with another bank as their rates were much much cheaper. Very disappointed that my 18 years banking with them and 5 years of loans with impeccable record (never missed a payment or bounced a check) were worth anything. I kept my business checking account with them just for the convenience and too much problems in trying to switch bank, but I won't longer recommend this bank read more

I've had an account here for about 10 years and unlike Big Banks, this bank you actually get to speak to a human being almost instantly. In fact, at the time I first went to this bank to get a loan, I was escorted into an office and it was the President of the Bank who met with me. I am from a little town and this bank reminds of my hometown bank. If you dont like corporate conglomerate banks where you dont have a clue whats going on with your money, this is the place to go. read more

Excellent bank: 100% trustworthy with your money, excellent customer service, community-oriented, and geared to giving its customers personalized attention. They actually know their customers here. This bank also had hands-on involvement with the revitalization of 8th Street (Barracks Row). The National Capital Bank seems to take pride in the relationships they forge with their customers, and I am appreciating that more and more in this era. It's also nice that this bank has a beautiful 400 gallon saltwater aquarium! Child and dog-friendly. read more

I have used this bank since it opened the branch in Friendship Heights. The staff could not be more helpful and there is a drive-in window. More and more bank business is being conducted via the internet but it is refreshing to go into the bank and have the employees speak to you by name. Yes, there have been some changes in the last couple of years but I have found the same great services and personal attention at NCB! read more

I've had accounts here for probably 40 years..first a checking account...(when starting my first job) then a savings..mortgages and fortunately financial services now that I am retired! The NCB is truly a "family" business in every sense ..and includes it's patrons as family members...I cried when Mrs. Bailey retired.!!!..and feel true friendship with so many who work there. It is the best of both worlds... the friendly atmosphere of a small town bank...and the outstanding professional services of a big city one. Over the years many people have suggested that I change to one of the "big banks" ...to which I reply ..."they don't know me there!" I have had business and personal accounts at the bank for 20 years. They have always handled my questions and banking needs very professionally at the Friendship Heights and downtown offices. I have also used the bank for my mortgage loans. They have reached out to me to know my name the way banks used to get to know their customers. I have accounts at big banks as well, but one can not beat the personal service here. read more

Good atmosphere and an impressive main office for a bank (located in historic Capitol Hill), but there are plenty of other just as capable banks in the area that have less demands for a basic personal account. For example, there is a $100 minimum for an initial deposit on personal checking at National Capital. I found another bank just as good with a minimum initial deposit that is a fraction of that. read more

I fell in love with National Capital Bank in the 1970s. Yes, fell in love. National Capital is family. When I go in, I immediately go to watch the fish in the huge aquarium in the middle of the bank. I have lived on the Hill for the better part of the last 25 years. i have owned five properties on the Hill and they've been financed by different banks and mortgage companies. I have also had checking accounts with several different banks, regional and national chains alike The National Capital Bank is so far and away superior to the others it's virtually impossible to compare. In every category, this bank excels. First there are human beings on the phone---all of whom seem to have worked there for years, and most importantly, enjoy and know their jobs. It has been so long since I've been able to count of dependably intelligent life forms at any service-oriented institution. And, by the way, the family that runs the place for as long as I remember seems so solid, so reliable, so available...you wonder how they do it. This place is a glorious throw-back to an era when professional, friendly, and intelligent service was a standard. If you don't use them, well, you're making a mistake. read more
