We were in a hurray and needed to get on the rode for a long trip. The last thing I wanted was the staff to ask me question after question to add on additional items/cost to the bottom line. I almost walked away. If I can avoid this aggressive, hard style sales pitch next time I will try to avoid Avis. Also, a couple days before I picked up the car I called the Lansing, Capital City Airport Avis desk with a few questions. They were snooty and short with their answers. Not pleasant. Not helpful. Made me instantly regret going with Avis.

I informed her I was driving cross country to Denver and asked if it was safe for that and she assured me yes, it's just some cosmetic damage. That was false. The previous renter hit a deer with it. I have pictures of the deer fur that was still stuck to front end of the car. I took it home for two hours before returning it out of an abundance of caution. I understand that they were fresh out of cars with no replacements, but that is NO EXCUSE for jeopardizing the safety of customers and other people on the roads. When I returned the car, she insisted that she looked at the car and that it was safe to drive - despite not being a mechanic herself, or being able to confirm that an actual mechanic had inspected the car before it was rented to another customer. She gave me some song and dance about cars moving around from location to location when asked if it had been inspected. When asked to provide a report saying the car was safe to drive she showed me the previous renter's insurance claim number, thinking that was enough to convince me. Then she told me to drive it over state lines and exchange it in a state that wasn't experiencing a rental car shortage. Thankfully Avis fully refunded my money but others should know what they might have to deal with when they rent from this specific location.

I was offered two Explorers instead, which didn't work for us because now you're saying I have two split my family up and pay for gas in two vehicles instead of one? No thank you. We accepted just one of the Explorers instead and figured we would make it work - well it did not work; we had to go home and unpack and repack everything to make it fit, if we didn't have a luggage rack there was no way this was going to work. I also only needed the rental through April 5th which the website let me choose as a return date when I booked it, when I got there the girl at the counter informed me that I would have to extend my rental by a day or return it a day sooner because they would be closed that day. Cool, so because you guys allowed me to choose a date you were closed as a return date, I now have to be charged an extra day on top of the inconvenience of a smaller vehicle or cut my vacation short. She told me I could contact Budget customer service when we returned, and they would be able to adjust the pricing due to the inconvenience and reverse the extra day. I've been fighting with Budget now since April and all they will do is refund my extra day and refund me $65. Although prior to me asking for it to go to refund and returns department the man on the phone offered me a free 2-3-day rental which would have been of greater value but shocker - when I bring that up to them, they have "no record of it". I should also add I have screenshots of a conversation with an agent where he stated my extra day would be refunded, my original reservation price would be honored along with an adjustment for the inconvenience. They don't care and are refusing to escalate to a manger. We will NEVER be renting from Budget again because obviously paying in full 3 MONTHS in advance still doesn't matter. Avoid like the plague because them and their customer service is awful and has no regards to customer satisfaction!

I called the next morning to cancel the reservation and the agent refused to assist me, giving me another number. I called that number and cancelled my reservation. Every day since, my credit card shows a pending charge of $142, for a car rental that I never picked up. It took me a week and the assistance of my American Express representative to even get through to a Hertz customer support person. Until now my issue has not been resolved. I now have a very negative opinion of Hertz as a company as they have not demonstrated any service or support for a loyal customer.
