The catch is that all of these places except Avis were sold out at 9p on a Friday, and Avis wanted $60 for the same car and time I got from Alamo for 25% as much. If you have an early flight (before the 8am shuttle service starts back up), you simply park the car in Long-term parking at LAN and drop the key in a box at the airport. This drop-off system was incredibly convenient since I basically parked a few feet from LAN's check-in counters on my own schedule. Thumbs up.

I was pressured by the agent (possible supervisor or manager as she was training new staff at the…read moretime) to keep a significantly damaged rental car with so much damage to the bumper that I was worried the hood would fly open on the freeway, or the bumper would fly off and kill someone else on the road. I informed her I was driving cross country to Denver and asked if it was safe for that and she assured me yes, it's just some cosmetic damage. That was false. The previous renter hit a deer with it. I have pictures of the deer fur that was still stuck to front end of the car. I took it home for two hours before returning it out of an abundance of caution. I understand that they were fresh out of cars with no replacements, but that is NO EXCUSE for jeopardizing the safety of customers and other people on the roads. When I returned the car, she insisted that she looked at the car and that it was safe to drive - despite not being a mechanic herself, or being able to confirm that an actual mechanic had inspected the car before it was rented to another customer. She gave me some song and dance about cars moving around from location to location when asked if it had been inspected. When asked to provide a report saying the car was safe to drive she showed me the previous renter's insurance claim number, thinking that was enough to convince me. Then she told me to drive it over state lines and exchange it in a state that wasn't experiencing a rental car shortage. Thankfully Avis fully refunded my money but others should know what they might have to deal with when they rent from this specific location.

When I arrived, I was told they just gave away the last 12-passenger van and that they tried calling me the day prior to let me know the vehicle wouldn't be available (I had no missed calls from the day prior or even that week). I was offered two Explorers instead, which didn't work for us because now you're saying I have two split my family up and pay for gas in two vehicles instead of one? No thank you. We accepted just one of the Explorers instead and figured we would make it work - well it did not work; we had to go home and unpack and repack everything to make it fit, if we didn't have a luggage rack there was no way this was going to work. I also only needed the rental through April 5th which the website let me choose as a return date when I booked it, when I got there the girl at the counter informed me that I would have to extend my rental by a day or return it a day sooner because they would be closed that day. Cool, so because you guys allowed me to choose a date you were closed as a return date, I now have to be charged an extra day on top of the inconvenience of a smaller vehicle or cut my vacation short. She told me I could contact Budget customer service when we returned, and they would be able to adjust the pricing due to the inconvenience and reverse the extra day. I've been fighting with Budget now since April and all they will do is refund my extra day and refund me $65. Although prior to me asking for it to go to refund and returns department the man on the phone offered me a free 2-3-day rental which would have been of greater value but shocker - when I bring that up to them, they have "no record of it". I should also add I have screenshots of a conversation with an agent where he stated my extra day would be refunded, my original reservation price would be honored along with an adjustment for the inconvenience. They don't care and are refusing to escalate to a manger. We will NEVER be renting from Budget again because obviously paying in full 3 MONTHS in advance still doesn't matter. But when I showed up, they were completely closed with no employee at the desk. They closed at 5, so I'm assuming I would have had to have been there right at 5 (or before) to even speak to an employee at all. I placed most of the blame on myself for being late, but it was frustrating that by missing the window by a few a minutes I was SOL. I was able to call my credit card company and canceled my car reservation for a refund. I still tried again because I NEEDED a car to get to my hotel reservation for the night (600 miles away) and booked a car for the next day. This time I got to the airport at noon. They were open, but did not have the car I reserved. In fact, the worker at the counter informed me that he was "negative six cars" when he arrived at work that morning, implying that they had no inventory at all when they opened at 11 AM. Which to me means that they didn't have any cars when I booked one! So they had nothing to offer me in terms of an upgrade or downgrade nor did they offer to help me find alternative transportation. All I could do was cancel my reservation again. And because I had no transportation, I had to cancel my hotel too--which meant canceling and rescheduling my entire planned vacation. This was beyond frustrating. I just don't understand how a car company can let you book a car when they don't have any cars to book. It's not a matter of miscommunication or mistakes, it's just bad practice. I will definitely never be using National again.
