FIrst I would like to say that my teaching job at a local high school pretty much eats up my time…read more This has never been more painful than recently, when I had the privilege of signing up to 3DMMA in Hanover Park, only to have to withdra a few months later. I will return when my teaching schedule is more realistic. That being said, I have to leave a few parting words. Coach Dennis (who overseas 3DMMA Hanover Park), and all of his coaches, were accomodating, and downright kind. I felt inspired (I am 55 years old...) though I was not physically not up to snuff with these athletes. That being said, I was supported 100%, and given privy to some of the most comprehensive (and realistic) martial arts I have ever experienced, and supported in a controlled pace that challenged me, but permitted me a sense of growth. I respect all the arts, but for the sake of common sense self-defense applications, my time in the Muay Thai part of the program was incomparable. Kata and tradition are wonderful - alleged specialty martial arts with exotic titles are intriguing. I have been there - and done that, as they say. However, this round, my goal was to learn how to improve my physical fitness (and count all the gaps in my cardio), as well as learn how to work on effective self defense skills. At 3DMMA, I was able to engage in a combination of boxing and kicking drills that have been honed in Thailand's backyard arenas. Learning how to kick with more power than anything any art ever taught me - was amazing. The fact that the coaches could so easily improve my lacking skills, my humbling. Focusing on proper movement (head included), as well as developing striking skills, was off the charts eye-opening. I feel as if I have been blind in every other art I have pursued. And again, while I have respect for those arts, I feel it is a shame it took me so many years to realize what I was lacking. Coach Dennis and his team never once overwhelmed me. I never felt out of place. They supported me every step of the way. You can be a total beginner (where I was at this juncture in life), a 3rd degree in whatever belt system you follow, or a hand to hand specialist in an art that claims elite, military viability. But, if your goal is physical fitness, and a growing awareness of what the human body can accomplish in a martial setting, and, you are looking for something beyond Tae Kwon Do, Krav Maga, and other similar forms of martial arts, then I humbly suggest a school that gets "right to it." This was the most no-nonsense program I have ever been a part of. On a side note, I recall turning at one point, sucking in air, but feeling driven and invigorated, stating to Coach Dennis, "It's crazy that I'm here at age 55." He wisely replied with, "It would be crazy not to be here at 55." Thank you again, Coach Dennis and staff, You are all truly champions.

I cannot say enough about this fantastic school. As a middle-aged student in the Muay Thai program,…read moreI was certainly not in the average. But there are individuals of every generation from all walks of life. The level of professionalism, support, and outright kindness I have seen and experienced at 3D MMA is just humbling. It has been literal decades since I have had this much fun in a martial system. I couldn't go anywhere else.

This location Charges parents to supervise their children during youth open gym hours even if they aren't playing or participating. My son is 8 and obviously can't go to the open gym alone. Prices are outrageous for a couple of hours to use the basketball rims. Ridiculous when it's winter time and these kids don't have many alternative options for staying active. Hope this is something that can be addressed as everyone in this community deserves fair opportunities to enjoy these amenities.$19 for an 1hr in the gym is ridiculous.

Where do I start?…read more upon initial tour I was kind of impressed, but I hadn't really looked anywhere else (MY MISTAKE!!) and signed up right away. my very first class I went to was called cardio dance. It was on a Saturday and the instructor was Angela. I could barely keep up with the class. It's like she's dancing to herself in the mirror with tons of jumping, and I don't know why people equate jumping with fitness. You can get a workout quite effectively without jumping around anyway she came up to me at the end of the class and told me because we were the same height that I should "look like her" and I was completely offended... not only is that ignorant. It's completely wrong because somebody's bone structure is not the same as somebody else's . Furthermore he should not be insulting somebody that's a paying member that's trying to better themselves. Then I took a pool fitness class. That's right here has to be the worst experience I've ever had in my entire life. On this particular day, one of the instructors I like didn't happen to come, and Terri showed up. I knew I should have left because I had already had issues with her for some reason she does not like me and doesn't try to hide it. You get the people in the pool that stand in the back row and all they do is talk and you can barely hear the music or what the instructor is saying and nobody says anything to them, but the person that's trying to better themselves that has injuries is being yelled at saying I'm "not working hard enough" or "push it harder"... even though I have injuries so on this particular day, I got screamed at in my face in front of a class of people And I was asked why I'm wasting her time and not working hard enough?!? I have an injury yet TERRI told me to push through that so I did and ended up almost five months on bed rest Another instructor tells you a move and stares off into space for about 5 minutes, then repeat. Super fun! Formats aren't followed correctly. You get classes here that cancel with very short (or no notice at all)! when you find an instructor that you like, they end up leaving or have previous commitments. Needless to say I have canceled my membership. I found somewhere that is less expensive that offers more. This place does not have a hot tub. They do not have tanning and they do not have massage chairs. People are not very friendly here and that's not conducive to feeling comfortable. And I have had at least four people tell me they are not comfortable there because they feel like they're constantly being judged so this cannot only be me that fails this way I can go elsewhere and feel totally accepted. No matter my size no matter my injuries and have every amenity that I want and then some . Yesterday when I tried to cancel well, I'm sure you can imagine I was met with more rudeness which only solidified my decision and I had gone back-and-forth with this for five months and there's no point in wasting my money for something I'm not using and I'm not happy with I would just say look around a little more might find something with instructors that actually care if you succeed. Here you're just another number and they don't really care and I'm not going to miss it. I've already lost a lot more weight going elsewhere and I'm a lot happier.

One of my friends told me to check this place out, which was only a couple miles away from me. She loved their classes (she did Yoga, Pilates, and some kind of ab class) and thought I'd benefit from their facilities, especially the track. Although the Centre has a membership fee for the machines & classes, I was able to use the track for free since I was a resident (at the time). That was all I needed. I loved it! The track was clean and never too crowded. I don't think a lot of people realized what a gem this place was. I went at different times during the day and enjoyed running quietly by myself or alongside my husband (he came with me a couple times). Lockers are also available next to the track with keys. I also walked around the Centre and saw two nice pools, climbing wall, new & clean machines, and several rooms for classes. The only downside is that the parking garage is kind of narrow and you have to watch out for cars coming around the corner. It's hard to find parking sometimes, but at least the garage is attached to some kind of indoor bridge over the street so you don't have to walk across the street. I also came here once for some kind of green festival and really enjoyed all the displays, booths, taste samples, art, and petting zoo! Many parts of Elgin are really run-down but this is one part of Elgin that shines. If it wasn't for the Centre (and the library nearby), I wouldn't have been complete.
