The National Transport Museum is an interesting and odd experience. One the one hand, it's literally not much more than a warehouse for old lorries, military vehicles, emergency vehicles, and public transit vehicles. While information for each vehicle is presented, there isn't much done to put things into an overall context. You don't so much learn about the history as transit as see a collection of old, interesting public service and commercial road transport vehicles.
I don't think we spent more than twenty minutes strolling through the collection, but if you're really a fan of lorries and streetcars, I imagine you could spend a lot longer. The vehicles are in pretty good shape considering they were working commercial vehicles for many years and are 50 to 100 years old (or even older.)
You can't climb into any of the vehicles, and little is done to make it easy to see inside. Some of the vehicles are parked so close together, all you can do is view the front. Others are quite tall, and no viewing platforms are provided.
It's not an expensive visit and it has an interesting selection of old vehicles to see, but by way of museums, it is not the most informative experience around. read more
