We did two different experiences here. First was the tour and whiskey tasting and second was cocktail mailing class. The tour part was not really too fun for us but the cocktail making class was a 10/10. Our mixologist specialist André was the best ever. He was very knowledgeable and dealt with our group of rowdy individuals with professionalism. We made a whiskey sour (the best I have ever had), an old fashioned, and a version of an Irish coffee which was also the best ever! If you do a later tour, be sure to visit the shop beforehand because it'll be closed afterwards so that was a bit of a disappointment. I highly recommend the cocktail making class for sure! This was such an informative and interesting 45-minute tour. Our tour guide, Matt, was funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. He taught us so much about the history of whiskey, where it originated, and how it's made today. We chose the classic tasting, which included three different whiskeys to sample. One of the most interesting things we learned was how adding just a drop of water can completely change the chemistry and flavor profile of whiskey. The tastings were all very distinct: **Skellig** (my personal favorite) - sweet, rich, and warm with a woodsy aroma and smooth flavor. **Fercullen Falls** (my husband's favorite) - smoky and peppery with a slightly sweet scent, followed by a spicy, woodsy flavor and a light vanilla finish. **Ardara** (not my favorite) - heavily peated and smoky. To me, it smelled like burnt rubber and old tires, with a bitter flavor and strong burnt aftertaste that lingered. If you're interested in Irish whiskey--or just want a fun, fascinating break from Dublin's busy streets--the Irish Whiskey Museum is absolutely worth an hour of your time. Located just steps from Trinity College Dublin, the museum is easy to find and is an easy stop while exploring the area. There is a long, fairly narrow set of stairs to access the entrance, but it is accessible. There's an elevator, and the guide accompanies anyone who prefers it while the rest of the group takes the stairs and meets on the next floor. The pacing was excellent, and while the tour moves from room to room, there are benches available if you'd like to sit during parts of the presentation. The tour moves through a few themed rooms tracing the history of Irish whiskey and ends in a cozy bar. It's both entertaining and informative, touching not only on the craft of whiskey making but also the economics, trade, and history that shaped the industry and Ireland. Our guide, Andrew, was so delightful--engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly someone who enjoys bringing the stories to life. The whole experience takes under an hour and is a nice respite from the bustling crowds outside. And of course, the highlight: tasting several excellent Irish whiskeys at the end. I came away with a better appreciation for tasting than I had before. There's a small gift shop in the area where you purchase your tour ticket, including small merchandise bearing clan crests. Absolutely loved this! We did the tour and tasting. Our guide, Daniel, was fantastic! He was knowledgable, enthusiastic and engaging. This was our first tour in Ireland and absolutely one of, if not the, best. We hadn't slept at all on the overnight flight over so we needed to stay alert and awake through the day. This certainly got the day rolling for us. It was fun and quite educational. We learned about the overall history of whiskey and specifics of how different whiskies are made. Didn't get to take the tour because of the kids, but the tasting room is a great place to try everything. Their selection is HUGE, and everyone is so knowledgeable and very willing to share what they know. Great gift shop as well - be sure to get some samplers so you can try at home after you sober up. We decided to do this early in the morning and make the day a whiskey day. I'm so glad we got here at 10am because our 1030 tour was only 5 people and when we left there were like 30 people on the next tour. GO EARLY! Our guide whose name I can't remember was fantastic. He was young and really entertaining. We got a full history lesson on whiskey in general and an in depth history on Irish whiskey. We paid for the 4th sample which came with a free shot glass. I'm not at all a whiskey drinker, but it was interesting to taste just how differently the whiskeys are based on who distills them. This experience was much more informative and enjoyable than the Jameson experience, but I'm glad we did this one first. It's a must do! read more

Free wifi, short but to the point, with a great host- we really enjoyed this tour on our stop. The times later in the day do get quite busy so book ahead if you want to go after 3pm. A few restrooms in the beginning, a bar and a gift shop also onsite. They have lifts for accessibility. Visiting the Irish whiskey museum was more of a me thing than a honey thing. I tend to drink whiskey over beer or really any other alcohol other than Mastic liquor, so I was incredibly curious as to the particulars of what went into making it. I loved the tour. I think of all the tours we took during our Europe vacation, it was honestly the most worthwhile. Upon entering the whiskey museum, you're checked in, and lead up a few stairs into the room where they tell you a little bit about the background of why Irish whiskey is distilled three times, why it's called spirits, and the background of why Jameson whiskey became so popular over the others (psssst... It's because of the green bottle). We purchased the basic package so we got to taste three whiskeys. The first (Connacht) was more light and tasted almost like wine, the second (Powers) had more body and was definitely stronger and the third (The Irishman) was a little more harsh. Because we were only in Dublin for the day, we weren't able to purchase anything to bring back home, however we really enjoyed taste-testing the different flavors, and hearing all about the history of whiskey in Ireland. In my opinion the tour is a definite must do, especially if you're seeing the Book of Kells as it's just a couple blocks away. read more

I loved this tour and so happy I didn't listen to my friend who said it was overrated. Tour guide was not only informative with different fact about how whiskey came to be in Ireland and the original competitive brands but she was also super funny! Theres even a room where you pretend you're in the prohibition area. You also get a tasting at the end. I really only like one of them but I am not really a whiskey person so don't let that deter you. I wish they had had the one I really liked in travel size as I do not check my bags. A friend recommended the Irish Whiskey Museum to us and let me tell you, this was one of our favorite things we did while in Ireland! This spot is in the heart of Dublin and on a very busy street so plan to walk or Uber. The tour is super interactive and educational [honestly learned a ton] and you get to try 4 different local whiskey's including our favorite, Powers, which is not exported so you can only get it locally! We did the premium tour which gave us the extra (4th) tasting and a take home Irish Whiskey Museum glass. Our tour guide was super funny and made the whole experience a lot of fun, while still being very informational. Overall, the tour lasted about an hour and you learn a lot about the history of whiskey, which is super fascinating! We had a great time doing this experience. There's some cheesy parts, but our guide made us laugh. The only negative part of the experience was that we got stuck with a rather large group of boys celebrating a 40th birthday who were very loud and rambunctious; they were disruptive during part of the tasting portion. Also for the "mixing your own whiskey," it's basically just a bottle that you get to pour the left overs of the whiskeys that you try during the tasting part. If your on a time crunch but still want to do a whiskey distillery/tasting tour...based in the heart of Dublin, I was told that the IWM tour is better than visiting Jameson or Teeling separately. So that's what brought me here... the museum tour gives you an unbiased history of Irish whiskey, tour is about an hr long and learn about single still pots and try blending your own as well. On the classic tour you can sample 3 or for a small fee you can upgrade to premium for 4 tasting and a sample glass which makes for a good souvenir. It's a fact that no one retains any info from a guided tour more than 48hrs (esp. after the amber nectar) and on that logic I just decided to skip the tour and just do a tasting by myself at the bar. Im no whiskey connoisseur, that's not a drink of choice but when in Rome aka Ireland ... I had to try it... Writers Tears... was sweet on the nose, spicy on the palate and Ia smooth finish.. loved it so much I came back 3days in a row. And oh their Irish Coffee is absolutely fantastic as well. The bar has some sort of cozy feel to it and the there was this spot by the window overlooking the streets outside of Trinity college, so perfect absolutely loved it. In Dublin alone, you have several distillers more than willing to share their thoughts and tell you their 'secret' which makes them the 'best'. However, for an unbiased tour of the history, as well as a small sampling of a few key products, the Irish Whiskey Museum is worth the price of admission. Speaking of the price of admission, you have several options. We went with the premium package and while not a must, the premium (an extra sample and a souvenir glass) is more than fair for the small extra in price. The good news is everyone gets the same tour and the only difference is at the end, so your group can mix and match as they feel. The guided tour consists of a few rooms used to set the stage for the story the tour guide will be telling and the history being described. You'll get to ask questions, watch a few videos, and listen to some audio as well. The entire experience should take about an hour and is easy to fit around other tours in the area such as Trinity College. I'm glad we fit this museum in over our last day and recommend you add it to your list as well. read more

This was an interesting and fun tour at a reasonable price, the only downside was all the whiskeys you taste at the end are not great. We also did the Jameson tour and this was cool because it talked about the history of all the distilleries, but it was also a lot more dramatized and as I said the whiskey tasting wasn't great. The whiskeys tasted also seemed to have no reference to the tour it seemed like it was just the cheapest 3 or 4 bottles they could come up with. I absolutely loved this place! It was an awesome experience learning about Irish whiskey. I'm a fan, obviously, but it's just that much more enjoyable when you know the history of what you're drinking. I booked this tour because the friend I went on my European tour with loves whiskey more than I do. I figured she would appreciate this. We got there kind of early so we waited in the waiting area until the tour started. I got to read a bit of the history and watched a movie about whiskey. You could go to the bar and have a drink before the tour, but we were thinking that we were going to do a tasting anyway so no need to get drunk beforehand. The host/guide was really funny, but I have such an American ear so it took me a minute before my ear started translating his Irish accent into something that I could understand. In my limited time in Dublin I could have visited the Guinness or Jameson distillery but I wanted to sample a variety beverages. Additionally, the other two sites are big bus tour stops and the Irish Whiskey Museum is not. The museum is centrally located and easy to find the central area of Dublin. We didn't make reservations and waited approximately 20 minutes for the next tour to start. There are options to sample 3 whiskeys, 4 whiskeys or no whiskeys at the end of the tour. The group on the tour wasn't too large, maybe around 12 people. We were provided with information on the history of Irish whiskey and moved into 3 different rooms before we ended up in the bar for our tasting. I found the tour to be educational and fun. We discussed different types of whiskey, the difference between whiskeys from around the world, how it's made, etc. The guide was pretty entertaining. For the tasting, if one chooses to do so, they provide a variety of whiskeys with different profiles. Jamesons and Bushmills weren't options during our visit. It was eyeopening for me to see how different the whiskeys were. Once we selected our favorite(s) the guide let us know what characteristics or styles we should look for if searching for similar whiskeys. The guide was also providing recommendations for other whiskeys we could try. There's an elevator for folks that cannot handle steps.
