Not sure how I even heard of this place. But I did. So here I went. As far as state parks go, this one is pretty small. Only 48 acres. But a lot to see in those 48 acres. Takes about an hour to see every thing. When you are first driving in, you see the marble amphitheater. A grassy circle with tall marble walls surrounding it. Apparently there is an "art installation" here. Classical music plated at astronomical sundown every evening. HOWEVER the park closes at 4:45. So - if there are no visitors to hear it, do the rocks make a sound??? It looked like it would have been a gorgeous spot to sit with a bottle of wine, a loved one, and some tapas, enjoy sunset and some Classic Rock music. BUT the park is closed. When you reach the parking lot, there is a short trail that leads you to the white marble dam. A sign tells you that this is the only WHITE marble dam in the USA. Which leads me to believe there are other marble dams, just not white ones? It was pretty and peaceful. Further down the trail you come to the Natural Bridge. The parks namesake. And this was pretty disappointing. Maybe since I go out west every year and I've seen all the huge sandstone arches and bridges, I saw this bridge and it looked more like a teeny tiny slot tunnel. I guess it's a natural bridge in the Webster dictionary sense. But this was supposed to be the highlight. My advice to DVR - change the park name to be White Marble Dam State Park. Not as many disappointed customers. read more

After visiting Mass MOCA spend an hour down the road at this park - you will not be disappointed!! Natural Bridge State Park gets its name from its natural white arch made of 550-million-year-old bedrock marble that was carved by a glacial melt some 13,000 years ago. The bridge spans Hudson Brook as it runs through a 60-foot gorge, which DCR calls "one of the best demonstrations of glacial erosion in New England." The park contains North America's only white marble dam, built in 1838. It was first used to supply water to an industrial quarry mill that operated from 1810 to 1947. In 2022 the state closed an unsafe portion of the viewing platform that goes over the chasm along with other unsafe areas of the park. The park department is planning improvements including improved parking and visitor center arrival areas, expanded universal access, and a "reimagined chasm viewing experience" with new accessible overlooks of the dam, brook, and natural bridge. It really is a remarkable natural park and deserves attention so that people can come and enjoy all its beauty. Giving it four stars for its spectacular wonder and for the visitor center that has interesting information about the glacial formations. read more

We were out for a drive and saw the sign for the park and decided to stop. The park was officially closed to cars but you can park in the small lot in front of the gate. It's a little gem of a park, an old marble quarry and some quirky wooden walkways and bridges that look down on the Hudson brook. The brook has created some unusually rock formation that you can look down on your walk. There's also some nice hiking trails on the other side of the park from the waterfalls. read more

Been to the Berkshires MANY times but never to this wonderful find in North Adams -- just a short drive from Mass Moca. This unspoiled gem of a state park is a must see for anyone who loves natural beauty and the outdoors. Only open in season so check dates on their website before coming. Highlight is the photogenic white marble dam and waterfall that is best viewed from one of the bridges or platforms. Many types of interesting rocks and walkways that take about an hour to explore. Picnic areas surrounded by majestic trees everywhere. Oh, they waived the $10.00 parking fee that day -- maybe because it was early October and the leaves had not turned yet? (which also kept the crowds down to a few dozen). Can't wait to come back next year to see the fall colors. read more

This park is fairly close to the border of Massachusetts and Vermont and was a good halfway point between meeting friends visiting the Berkshires from NYC. It was a perfect location: a 50 minute drive for each of us. The Park is well maintained and adheres to strict social distancing policies. There isn't as much parking as one might expect, so we parked at the bottom and walked up (which was only a half mile). There is a fabulous open field that's great for leisurely soaking in the beauty of the park. The granite maze above was really interesting and had lots of little gems tucked away, particularly the natural granite bridge over the stream below. It was a nice park with the charm one might expect for an area tucked between the rural parts of two gorgeous regions. read more

5 stars because it's so unexpected. Last December I visited the Natural Bridge State Park for the first time as part of my waterfall blog research. Yesterday I wanted to see it adorned in fall colors. This is a special place. An old abandoned marble quarry with caves carved into it from glacial activity. How often can you see something so unique right in our backyard? There is a $5 fee for parking. When the gate is closed you may still walk into the park. There are boardwalks leading you to different viewing areas of the caves. Make sure you make it to the top to see the marble waterfall. Mass MoCA has ten speakers placed into the walls of the large quarry walls to create a natural amphitheater. For 15 minutes each night (based on solar time) there is a 15 minute period of classical music. You can check it out online for the fine details. A very unique place. read more

This was a unique place that is worth a 30 minute visit if you are out in North Adams. The Natural Bridge State Park is an old marble quarry and there is tons of marble still remaining. At the top is a parking area and be prepared to pay to park. The prices have increased to 5 dollars for a mass plate and 10 for non-mass plate. Sadly I was using a rental car that had an out of state plate so we were charged more. It's worth 5 dollars, but 10, eh. There is a small visitor center next to the parking lot if you need to use the restroom but before they close which is 5, they close the bathrooms so many people were out of luck when they were leaving as the door was already closed 30 minutes before. The area has gorgeous views of the Appalachian Mountains and the natural damn that was created from the Marble. There are steps that go down and are overlooking the carved marble river gorge that was left behind when the quarry closed. Throughout the park are informational plaques to tell you about the aspects, how things were made and how it runs. Beautiful place for a picnic or just to explore on a nice day. We took gorgeous pictures and just enjoyed the gorgeous weather. Great place for a short visit. Also if you don't want to pay for parking, you can park at the bottom and walk up. We didn't have a choice as one of our members has issues with their knees. So keep that in mind. read more

I absolutely love this place! There is a small fee for parking, and it's a very short walk to the natural bridge. It's not a huge park, and there isn't a beach or places to swim, but there are picnic tables and outdoor grill sites. It would be a fantastic place for a day with family. The views are wonderful. I especially love the white marble dam. The only one of its kind in North America. Certainly a place worth visiting. read more

Nice place to stop to see - spent about an hour here . Considering this is not free to the public and there is an admission fee, I am just really surprised that the huuuuuge pot hole at the entrance was there when I went a few weeks ago. I hope it's fixed by now, but I would guess by the size of it, it had to have been there for a while. Be careful. read more

Lovely park highly suggested after strolling through North Adams, MASS MoCA, or driving down the Mohawk Trail. Park you car next to the red barn and Beaver Mill. Don't drive all the way up. The best part is waking and being surprised by the huge quarry in front if you! At sunset you can also enjoy a sound installation there. If you keep walking you will be above the big quarry, and you can look down though vertical paths to the marble natural bridge. Few board explain you the history of the area. The marble bridge is a must see. Pack a lunch for a relaxing lunch. It's in a pristine location.

My husband said it best when we said he liked this park because it reminded him of the vibe of the 70's/80's era parks he went to as a kid; "Fairly spartan, somewhat dated hardware, questionable safety in parts, but lots to explore." We spent the five bucks parking admission to visit, not thinking we'd spend more than ten minutes there, but when we checked our watches after leaving we had spent an hour and fifteen wandering around. There are some really spectacular views of the natural bridge and canyons created by the water flow, the marble dam is so different and beautiful, and the park itself is well maintained. I wish we had thought to bring a lunch since there are lots of little places to picnic, but we were sadly only passing through. Nice and easy little trail walk that doesn't require any great fitness level, and several places for the kids to scramble safely up little levels of rock ledge for some great photo ops. Really perfect stop if you're in the area. read more

A nice little 30-60 minute stop. Beautiful and an interesting quarry history. My only negative is that we came from out of state and want to stop at a few of these state parks all in the same area and have to pay $10 out of state fee at each park! Can't we get a day pass?! They are all fairly small and close together. And no military discount?! My husband would still be a Mass resident if he wasn't serving in the military. As it was we only stopped at a few. Kind of a shame that people miss out on these natural sites preserved for the public because they don't want to keep shelling out $$. read more

A small park that is based around a... waterfall? A marble wall? I didn't read many of the plaques. It's a neat place to check out and has clean bathrooms and picnic tables for lunch. You can kind of see the whole thing in less than an hour. Parking is $2. read more

It's gorgeous, with lots of places to poke around. The trails are easy and it's not difficult to spend a couple hours here, at least if you like trees, stone and water. Getting into the stream and clambering around is discouraged by a sign. but people do it anyway and it's wonderful on a hot day. The last time I was there there was no charge, just a few places to drop a voluntary contribution. The natural bridge itself is small and very unimpressive, but the long, winding chasm formed by the waterway is beautiful and will keep your camera busy. As others have mentioned, there's a sound installation run by Mass MoCA in the quarry. I've been there three times and I've never heard it; it's apparently prone to failure. That's annoying because you have to clamber into the park after it's closed and make a short hike and then wait around, for nothing. (I tried calling and emailing Mass MoCA before I visited this last time, to see if the installation was working, but there was no response.) If you're going to bother, contact Mass MoCA the day before, and even if they say it's working, make allowance for disappointment. But if you're there alone during sunset in mid June, you'll get to hear the birds quieten down, see the bats flit around briefly, and then the fireflies come out. read more

Drive in by McCauley Road off of 8 North to left when you come out of North Adams. A gem of a place for an hour or 3. It is beautiful, has all sorts of industrial history and it is a bucket list item, the only white marble dam in America. Also very nice bathrooms! read more

This small area won't take long to see but it is worth a stop for the pretty rock formations,waterfalls and old lime quarry. Anyone who read Hawthorne's story "Ethan Brand" in school will immediately recognize this as the site of the story. The actual natural bridge is rather insignifcant, however. read more

Absolutely Beautiful! Such a great place to take a walk, see the natural scenery, take photos, go swimming, take a hike in the woods or have a picnic! Great for dogs and families. Plenty of parking and very clean. read more

This is a very interesting area including an old stone quarry, some natural stone bridges, waterfalls and the remnants of the an old mill. Spent 2-3 hours hiking around, exploring. read more

This is a great, quick little nature stop. It's not too hard to walk the path, and very dog-friendly, if that's your thing. Just to the right of the path, on the way to natural bridge, there's an abandoned quarry where a really lovely sound-art piece plays a little while before sunset. Also, look for all the old names carved into the rocks at the bridge site. read more
