The guy was spending like 10-mins just explaining details about jewelry they sell to a customer who did not want to buy anything just for fun! The lady behind the counter who helped me was super friendly and nice. And she wrapped what I bought with a lot of care. I wish I lived in Ashland and could visit them more often. I bought a few of their beautiful leather bookmarks for myself, but they're going so fast because everyone loves them and wants one! I wish they had things they sell in their store on their website too, so I could order more bookmarks, but sadly that's not the case.

They have a small assortment of fine wares in several areas: glassware, jewelry, baby items, cosmetics, books and my personal favorite, bon-bons. At every stop I would ooh and aah over something. When I was looking in the children's section they managed to have some of my all time favorites (Ferdinand the Bull and several from the Emberley drawing series). Kay Cutter and Jean Bakewell are local Ashland artists and have owned Studio Designs since before…read more2000. They run this company which has four distinct parts: Ashlandartist.net is a 'online-gallery' showcasing original artwork of Jean's acrylic paintings. They are offered in Giclee, original acrylic and decoupage art gift boxes. She does commissioned art as well. RecessionCandy.com was 'established out of necessity' in 2009 making wonderful english toffee. Their friends and family encouraged them to pursue Recession Candy Company selling the delicious toffee they call 'simply the best'. The third part of their business is the unique pieces of jewlery, touch stones, slate etchings, etc. they offer at local Farmer's Markets and various artisan markets in Ashland and throughout the Rogue Valley. Then, there is the incredible graphic design work of Kay. She takes Jean's art and creates the decoupage art boxes, mousepads, coasters, notecards, holiday/cards even customizes work for commercial and retail establishments. So I was interested to visit the new 'costume shop' in the Railroad District that opened this summer to see what they had in stock. Renaissance Rose offers a variety of themed costumes you can rent or purchase. They have packaged costumes similar to what you'll find around Halloween at other retailers, but also some more interesting pieces. At this point their website seems to be pretty basic, so hopefully that will expand in the future. After visiting both stores, I think the main location still has the broadest selection of items for purchase. Especially wigs, hosiery and accessories. But, if you are looking for a more unique rental, then the costume shop is worth a visit. I was most interested in the hair pieces near the back of the shop.

I called down to Sew Creative, explained the situation, and asked if they could help me out. "C'mon down!" they said, and I did. They were very helpful in getting me exactly what my granddaughter was after. They have a lot to choose from and were very generous with their time. Highly recommended!
