After a bit of walking through the mall, we noticed this donut shop that sold cones. We decided to give it a try. Staff are super friendly. They asked if we wanted donuts but we declined...this time and went with the ice cream. I ordered the a swirl, half chocolate, half vanilla. They got it to me in no time. The prices weren't bad and we were walking around the mall with our ice cream. The ice cream is a bit softer than what you'd get at McDonald's. I had issues with my cone as the ice cream sat on top of the cone - no ice cream in it so a few times it almost fell off the cone. I had to eat it really carefully. This shop specializes in making fresh mini donuts and they also serve soft serve ice cream/drinks. The staff were dressed up in the cutest 50's style attire, with folded parlor hats and aprons. Service was friendly and prices were super reasonable with basically all the drinks and ice cream being $4.00. I ordered the iced cap, frozen blue drink, a dozen cinnamon sugar mini donuts. You can also add sprinkles/dipping sauces to your mini donuts too! They also had plain mini donuts and powdered sugar. There were a couple of stools inside the restaurant and a cute donut shaped chair. Its a cute place. The donuts were amazing and the kids had a great time.

They've been around since 2021 but their first Ottawa store just opened in September 2025. I stumbled across them while looking on Google Maps for new businesses in town. I popped by during their soft opening (September 12, 2025) and they had 3 specials going on: buy one get one half-price, buy 2 get 1 free, or get $2 off a single drink. Since I was only getting one drink, I opted for the $2 off, but the other 2 offers are a better deal. I got the Oat Cereal Yogurt ($6.99) and added Matcha Mochi for an additional $0.69. With the special my drink was only $5.68. I initially wanted to get no added sugar, but the cashier cautioned against it because she said it would be really sour, so I opted for the second lowest sugar amount which is 30% (the other options are half, regular and extra). I am glad that I did because 30% was the perfect amount of sweetness for my tastes. I agree that no sugar would have been too sour. I think if I had ordered a drink with fruit in it like mango or berries, no sugar would have been fine, but the oats are not sweetened and the mochi is not that sweet either. The yogurt was thick, rich and tart. It was so good. The oats gave it a nice chew and the mochi had a fun silky texture (note that the mochi is like liquid mochi in bubble tea drinks and not chewy mochi pieces like in Bingsoo or toppings found at those frozen yogurt places). I thoroughly enjoyed my drink and looking forward to returning to try their other drinks. Service was courteous and helpful. The decor is bright and cheery. There's a stuffed llama in the store. In addition to having a great selection of fresh produce and meats, I like that it has a Joe Fresh section as well as a Pharmacy. There's also a Wine Rack inside the store and a Fit4Less. As a PC member, I check the weekly deals in the PC App before I get groceries. I also like that I can view the store's flyer in advance to know what in-store only specials they have. All the times that I have gone to this store, it is always clean and bright and welcoming. The staff has always been nice, too. The only thing that prevents it from getting 5 stars from me is the fact that some of their products can be much more expensive than other competitors like Walmart and Food Basics.

Anyway, my previous review from 2 years ago still stands, except for the ownership part. Oh and they stopped carrying Allegro cheese, but that happened long before Natural Food Pantry took over. So a handful of people in the store, can make it appear overly crowded. That being said, they pack a lot of products in this store! I love the fact that they carry full lines of products. I hate it when grocery stores only carry two or three things from a line, so I was in vegan heaven when I hit up their freezer and fridge section. They have the biggest variety of vegan meats here, like Gusta, Gardein, Nutburg, and so on. Their snack aisle is always super intriguing. They have a large selection of chips, chocolates, and snack mixes here. It can get dangerous, pretty quickly. They have a small selection of vegan jerky from the brand Primal Strips, and they make awesome jerky! I do wish they increased their vegan jerky selection, since there is a huge market for that right now. Their produce section is meh. It's small, and the produce does not look that appealing, but I appreciate that they sell local, organic produce. I'd skip the produce here, and just hit up Farmboy next door. They also have a large selection of teas, but they were heavily overpriced compared to other retailers. That being said, know your prices. A lot of the items here are shelved at a 30-40% markup, compared to other retailers. Sometimes, they have sales that will bring items down to a more appealing price, but you really have to shop smart here. I'm still a fan of this place, and always enjoy my visits here and love checking out new products that they carry. I might have to make more trips out here in the future since they really do carry a lot of interesting vegan meats.

These 3 pastries were $23/kg and it cost me $12.65 for all 3 pieces. The Shaabiyat was quite sweet, but I still enjoy it, while every thing else was perfect for me, so much less sweet than at other bakeries. I loved it! My parents felt the other pastries were not sweet enough for them, but they just poured some of the honey syrup that came with the pastries on it and felt it was perfect. I love how you can control the amount of sweetness. Everything was delicious. I will be coming here for all my Middle Eastern pastries from now on. The lady serving me was very friendly. Part way through, a man came to the front and advised me that the piece of cake I ordered was from yesterday and he can get me a fresh one. Oh yes, please! Also they had some freshly baked Shaabiyat at the back and they would bring that tray out. Nice! I was so thrilled to be getting fresh items (I came on a Saturday morning). It is hard not to find anything at HomeSense that is not priced reasonably. Like other reviewers have mentioned, since it is located on Merivale Road, it should be avoided on the weekends. Not only that but avoid this location on Monday's as well, the stock is usually low, and the store is left with all the "left overs" from the weekend, that did not sale. Usually give it a day or two for the staff to load up the shelves with new goodies after their weekend rush. Best time to shop is Tuesday-Friday in the evening or morning. Don't forget, interior decorators get a discount at HomeSense!!
