    Trail

This is a great location for a quiet hike in the woods. The trails aren't confusing, and the hike around the lake is short and satisfying. The views are beautiful, and I've never seen many people here, which adds to the sense of serenity. I would be willing to travel pretty far to get to this location, given the natural beauty it offers.

A beautiful, quiet, and safe hiking location. I wasnt expecting anything spectacular, just a typical reservoir, but this place was much more! Theres quite a few trails to explore both deep in the woods and along the water. I saw a few people fishing, one in a hammock near the water, and a kind fellow hiker that said a passing hello. I hike at West Rock state park often which is basically in new Haven. So going to this place really was great because of the better air quality, friendlier people, and less ambient noise. Theres great tree coverage too so you're not baking in the sun. I thoroughly enjoyed the drive through Redding, Weston, and Easton as well. Quality towns with cyclists and runners out and about. Good place for a relaxing weekend hike.

Very pretty spot especially around the time that the leaves are changing color in the fall. I'd say that, as far as hiking level goes, it's a pretty easy trail. I did not hike the whole thing but the initial part from the parking lot to the lake (pictured) is a mile of pretty straight trail. You can continue on for quite a lot more but as far as what I could see, the lake is really the main attraction here.

Most people don't know this place exists, it's hidden from the main path of traffic, not actually easy to find when you know what you're looking for, and when arriving it's a bit surprising to often see that the lot is empty. Don't get me wrong, it's used quite a bit, the maps of the trails are well documented, maintained, and of course there is plenty of value here if a nice hike is in store but there is really a lot missing from the view of the passing visitor. Fall foliage is amazing if the furthest North East "ledge" is within your range of hiking and winter snow shoe or cross country ski options abound as well. A gem for locals looking for cross country jogging and a little fresh air with little to no sound pollution.

Ask the Community - Nature Conservancy - Devil's Den Preserve

Anyone know what the colors mean on the trees? I'm guessing to help mark the trails, but what does the red, white, yellow lines mean?

Red color is for the main trails, wider and suitable for cross country skiing in winter. Yellow are the other hiking trails.

It wasn't super busy when I went, but would suggest getting a free ticket online in advance just in case.

A true Stacey, she arbitrarily directed me to lead my tour on shady trails, where edible wild plants, which need sunlight, don't grow. My 13-year-old foraging expert daughter scouted out the shady trails in advance and verified this. Feeling responsible to the participants, I led the tour in sunny places, where we found plenty of plants, despite Currier's arbitrary and wrong-headed objections. Nevertheless, Currier hired me and my daughter to lead a mushroom weekend in 2017. She signed a contract, including a statement that if she canceled the event, we'd be paid in full. Then, when it was way too late for me to schedule other events, she pulled the rug out for under me, canceled our event, and hired someone else to do the mushroom weekend, despite the signed contract, causing us to lose a much-needed weekend of work. When I tried to contact her dad, Tim Currier, the owner, with whom I'd been acquainted since 2008, he showed his true colors and ghosted me. Through a laborious process, I took the farm to small claims court. The trial occurred remotely during the Covid lock-down. No one from the farm showed. I won, and they had to pay me after all. Be warned: These people are crooks, and will skunk you if they can get away with it.

I love how there's so much to do at the park. You can grill, go to the beach, go for a walk and even ride your bike. It's a great time. The beach is small and full of rocks and pebbles. The water was freezing even in the hot weather. The walk towards the water is even worse. There's rocks everywhere you step and can be extremely painful. My sister and I both cut our feet trying to get in and out of the water so I HIGHLY recommend getting some water shoes! My favorite parking lot is the west side only because there's a bathhouse where you can change, use the bathroom and take a shower. Highly recommend to come here for a fun beach day or picnic or grilling. Love love this place!
