Our V.I.P. appointment was at 8a.m. Tonya and other staff were there, the salon was clean and welcoming and it was obvious that she hadn't arrived moments before! She was a complete professional. My son appreciates environments where it is clear some energy and effort has been made to clean, maintain and make the business welcoming. His prior loctician, although good at her craft, did not put energy into injecting a modern and fresh ambiance into the salon. Tonya welcomed us and was able to give an approximate time for complete service. The service was complete in about an hour and a half and my son couldn't be more pleased! I had requested an appointment using the Yelp option and was pleasantly surprised when I got a response within 10mins. The stylists here are all really nice and knowledgeable at what they do, I give kudos to people who ask questions about a service and say "so and so would be better for it" and send you their way. Walking in here it felt as though I knew the ladies for years, everyone was polite and said hello when the door opened. Audra styled my hair into jumbo box braids and was actually extremely quick. I was prepared to spend all day here but it only took about 4 hours total, which makes me super happy since I have a hard time sitting still lol. Anywho, she even took the time to educate me on how to take care of my natural curls and recommend products that would help it retain moisture once I take it out of the protective style. Thankfully Paulette was more than nice enough to honor the Groupon anyways. I've never been to a barber/salon where you have your own private room. I must admit it's pretty cool. Other places can become obnoxious having to deal with some of the people that go there. This was quite the opposite. It was actually really relaxing. Not a bad way to spend 30 minutes. The haircut came out looking exactly like I wanted, which is a first for me. Most other barbers give you their interpretation of the picture you show them as an example. I was pleased with the end result. My hair looked great, it did have a bit of a burnt smell but I figured it would be ok. Fast forward to 7/13/23 wash day....while washing my hair I could tell immediately that all of my fears would become reality. I had severe heat damage. My once tight coils were now a loose pattern in most areas and straight strands in others. In disappointment, frustration and distress I reached out to the cottage spa via DM on their social media platform to see if there was anything that could be suggested to help besides me cutting my hair. I have yet to receive a reply. If and when I hear something back I will return and update my review. Prior to my visit I did research on the owners social media page, booking website, and this platform. I didn't see reviews less than 5 stars or any indication that I would make me second guess my decision to go to this salon. While I feel that Jay is good hair care professional, it is clear that my hair could not withstand the amount of heat used.
