We left around 8:30 to 8:45, and by the time the 9:00 p.m. fireworks started, we had a front row view from the water. It was absolutely incredible. The captain and crew were friendly, welcoming, and did an amazing job. The ship wasn't overcrowded, so there was plenty of room to walk around and take in the views. Watching the fireworks with the Chicago skyline in the background was unforgettable. After the fireworks, we sailed under the night sky with the sails up and great music playing. It honestly felt like I was in the Caribbean, except with an amazing city skyline all around us. I'm from New York and was in Chicago for work, and I have to say this was even more impressive than seeing the New York skyline from the water. I also own a sailboat, so I really appreciated how well the crew handled the ship. One of my favorite parts was that guests could even help hoist the sails. There was a full bar with a really good rum punch, and so many great spots to take pictures of the sunset and the skyline. The crew was also happy to take photos for people. If you're going, get to Navy Pier early and enjoy the restaurants and drinks before your sail. This is great for families, couples, or even if you're traveling by yourself like I was. It's a unique experience that you won't get on one of the regular tour boats. I would absolutely do this again the next time I'm in Chicago.

There are large running and biking paths that follow right along the lake for miles. I'm making it a goal to utilize this much more this coming summer, because the warm weather in Chicago is short but sweet and I NEED to take advantage of it! The paths and trails are clean, which is another reason I love this particular part of the lakefront. The views here are really unmatched between the water, city skyline, and boats (depending on time of year, of course). We walked along the concrete water front with our pup who loved every second of it. There were many people sitting there alone or with company also enjoying the beautiful day. If you're looking for shade, there are plenty of tree covered spaces along the sprawling lawn. It looks like there are also restrooms and playgrounds here, another huge win! First, it says when booking that it will be two hours. The start time is 8:15. So I told my…read morebabysitter an end time based off of that. The day of the tour we get a text saying it will be three hours. That meant we had to scramble to see if our babysitter could stay at least an hour longer. Second, they put a green light on each kayak on each so it can be seen at night on the river (we did the fireworks tour). I am not exaggerating when I say half of the kayaks on the tour lights were out on the way to the fireworks. That made me feel unsafe and anxious. It also made it more difficult to figure out who our tour guides were because at least two tour guides' lights went out as well. Third, they directed us to "park" (not sure how else to put it) for the fireworks in a spot that the other kayak tour groups seemed to very clearly know was to be avoided because a giant boat was going to dock there. This resulted in our group being yelled at by another kayaking group that we should leave for our own safety because a boat was going to dock there. Then the boat was descending upon us and we had to play kayak-frogger across the river in a mad dash at the last minute while the giant boat honked and played sirens because we were in its way. Again, felt very unsafe. For a person looking for a a casual, fun kayaking experience, this whole thing was too stressful. Would not recommend. Other kayaking places we saw on the water seemed more organized and safety-conscious.

I was there back when the weather was pretty cold so the little cafe and driving range and mini golf were not open. Even though it was cold, there were still people enjoying the park like setting. The harbor looks very spacious and conveniently located between Lake Michigan and all the restaurants and shopping just west of there, along with beautiful residential neighborhoods. Lincoln Park zoo is very close by as well. Parking is plentiful too! Now that the weather is becoming enjoyable, I am planning on visiting again very soon. It looks like a great place to go for a walk if you aren't in the mood for golf.

They directed me to a Chicago Cycleboats public tour instead. I was skeptical about this kind of boat. Would there be a lot of people? Were the bikes plus size friendly? But I was happy that we could bring our own food and drink. I had a hunch we might be the only people on the boat and I WAS RIGHT. My festive party of 5 had the whole boat to ourselves. In the end I got a private tour for a fraction of the price!! Better yet, the seats and cycles were fat friendly and comfortable. When folks get tired of paddling, the captain just flicks the electric on and the boat continues on. Monica was an outstanding captain. She let us do our thing, made sure we were safe, and had interesting stories to tell us about her boating career. Champagne, charcuterie, music, and a riverboat. A perfect way to spend a warm Chicago day!
