Boy have I been looking forward to this. I have bdd, ocd and fnd. I came here after a wilderness therapy experience against my will. I was extremely traumatized coming out of that place and the notion that I was ready for intense ocd treatment is honestly laughable. I am currently on my road to recovery in spite of my experience here. I was extremely traumatized coming out of wilderness and all I wanted was to go home to rest and see my family. Not one person had the guts to stick up for me and say why are we keeping this kid here. We're not helping him and he can't tolerate exposures so they made me feel like the bad guy for doing whatever I could to get out. There is a sinister side to this industry which includes this institution. Here, whoever is reading this. I'll save you a lot of money to deal with ocd. Lean into your ocd fears at a rate which isn't too overwhelming. Make sure you can stay mentally present for exposures without 'tapping out'. If you have bdd, come here if you want to get worse. Although bdd is a ocd related disorder, treating it as any variant of ocd is malpractice. OCD recovery is possible, rest assured. It does not require whatever absurd price this place charges. I am one of the victims of people swept under the rug and never talked about again. There is a lot of pain I have associated with that place. Pain I'm unfortunately still resolving. Dr moritz is very smart but her capacity for manipulation is high so just be conscientious of that. This place is capable of helping ocd with one big caveat of proceed with caution. They are willing to keep people they can't help, me being an example. This is a for profit industry which is still in its infancy. I was threatened with being sent somewhere to essentially lock me away when I was breaking down from pain, fear, and exhaustion. This place can help, I will admit to not invalidate the rest of my argument but do not treat there word as biblical and know that they are willing to make moral concessions. read more

Neurobehavioral Institute (NBI) changed my life. I was diagnosed with OCD at 12, and over time it became increasingly severe until it took over my life. I was consumed by fear and spent my days locked in my room, trapped in exhausting OCD rituals of compulsive cleaning and showering. Before NBI, I spent nearly my entire days trapped in the vicious cycle of OCD, locked in my room and consumed by compulsive cleaning, showering, and contamination fears. Seeking treatment was very difficult, as I was turned away from multiple OCD treatment programs due to the complexity of my case -- blindness combined with severe OCD. NBI was the one place willing to take on that challenge and support me fully. I arrived with many contamination fears, but my biggest fear of all was using my white cane to navigate the world. Although treatment was the most difficult thing I've ever done, it was also the most rewarding because I took my life back from OCD. I gained a new lease on life, along with freedom and confidence. Through months of ERP therapy, I learned how to combat OCD and discovered that I am capable of facing and conquering my fears. Today, although OCD is still present, it is much quieter and no longer controls my life. I am living fully -- riding horses, boxing, volunteering at church, cooking, babysitting, rowing, and doing things I once avoided. My white cane is now my best friend, and I have accepted and embraced my blindness. I now share hope through my writing and advocacy work with the BBS community. I am deeply grateful to NBI. When others were unwilling to help due to the complexity of my case, NBI said yes. Dr. Katie Moritz, thank you for taking a leap of faith with me. I truly never believed overcoming OCD was possible. Please do not use their services. Katia charged us an excessive amount a money for "an evaluation". She never asked permission for other trainees to be present in the evaluation. The follow up meeting was not attended by Katia. She sent one of her trainees. This is the most unprofessional practice I have ever encountered. read more

Would not recommend, worked with the associate director in a professional setting and behind the polite demeanor her actions proved to be less than professional. Never arrived on time, or submitted payments on time and often notified me of changes in schedule last minute. As far as punctuality goes I would not recommend. read more

How could the mistreatment just be in my head when, as I keep stating, there were multiple eyewitnesses who can more than vouch for me, John? I don't BELIEVE that I was mistreated; I *was* mistreated. I was literally held against my will. That's exactly what happened. It's not an exaggeration. Was it in my mom's head, too? And the paramedic? Or the former employee who quit because of how evil the place is? Or the dozens of other poorly treated patients that I met there? We're all just imagining things? I'm curious, when were you "treated" there? From when until when? Because if you got there after what they did to me, MAYBE that would make sense. Because after their literally illegal actions, they would probably want to cover their asses and change their methods at least somewhat for fear of being sued in the future by another potential victim. I tell you, Moritz knew she was wrong. The look on her face once she realized how badly she messed up, I'll never forget it. When the paramedic told her that she was making me worse and that I wasn't a danger to ANYBODY, she had this stunned deer in headlights expression. And as I mentioned, she wanted so desperately for me to go back to talk to me the next day. So much so, she actually made the threat to come to my house ("I know where you live"). My parents and I are certain she was attempting to ensure that we wouldn't sue. I regret every single day that we didn't. The ONLY reason we didn't sue is because I had already been put through enough emotional turmoil, and the process of going to court and reliving the trauma would have really put me through the ringer. But they absolutely should have been sued, and Moritz should have lost her license to practice. It kills me that they got away with it. read more

In response to Lauren's review, with all due respect, NBI is the clinic that saved our family. I am sorry to hear about the negative experience you had, but in contrast, our experience at NBI was life changing. The doctors there are specifically trained in OCD treatment which to my knowledge involves ERP, and CBT. Both are therapies tailored to meet the patient's needs. The doctors taught my family tools and skills for our anxiety and OCD. Alot of the therapy involves ERP which is when the patient faces his/her own fears, at their own pace and the doctor is there to guide you through until the fear becomes less and less. That is exactly what they did with my family. The doctors at NBI care about you as a person. They helped our family get their lives back. The caring and support received from the doctors at NBI is a reflection of their passion for wanting to help people with OCD. Specifically, Dr. Katia Moritz is who we saw and we cannot thank her enough for her expertise, and all the knowlegde she has instilled in our family. OCD can affect the WHOLE family and Dr. Moritz and her team have led us to a healthier life, which we never thought possible! The treatment and doctors at NBI are all top notch in the field of OCD and anxiety disorders. They care about their patients and go ABOVE and BEYOND to help each person who is struggling. They will never "hold you against your will" as stated in the previous review by "Lauren." That is quite disturbing and appalling to even think or say they would do that. I was not there, but I imagine if anything, they were trying to keep you safe. These Doctors have devoted their lives to helping people get their lives back and my family and I are living proof!! My partner was referred to NBI in Oct of 2019 for specialized treatment. We were told there was a scholarship program/sliding scale for low income and was told that once the application was in it would take about 1-2 weeks to process it. It took a little bit to get the actual application, as they kept sending it to the wrong email address. We figured that's a common clerical mistake. The application was submitted early November 2019. Before Thanksgiving (right about the end of the 2 week period) my partner reached out to follow up on his application. He got an email back saying they would check on it. Since then he called several times in December to ask about it and the person handling his application was never available. It's now early/mid January 2020 and we STILL have not heard back from NBI. We've given up and are seeking treatment elsewhere. Either their office staff is comically incompetent or they are merely trying to bleed wealthy/desperate patients of their money. read more

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I had the most traumatizing experience a couple of years ago at NBI and I'm just now gathering the courage to write about it. I'm even thinking of taking up legal action against this place, and specifically Katia Moritz. I should have done it a long time ago, but I'm only getting over my issues at this point. You see, I have suffered from severe OCD my entire life. In 2015, the symptoms became debilitating. I was borderline agoraphobic. I only ever left the house for my appointments at NBI. I had dropped out of school, quit my job, and said goodbye to my social life. That's why I didn't do anything at the time. Going to court was impossible for me. But now that I have my life back, oh boy, do I have stuff to say. At this "treatment" facility, they do something called exposure therapy, in which they expose you to your worst fears caused by OCD. The purpose of exposure therapy is to slowly and gradually build you up with a tolerance for your phobias. But slow and gradual were not NBI's methods. They push you right into the exposures. And what's worse, and also unethical, is that they have a rule that you can't stop or walk out of the exposure if you start to feel overwhelmed. That's what happened to me. I was having a session with Dr. Moritz when I felt like it was becoming too much for me. I started having a panic attack. I said to her "I'm sorry, but I need to leave." Without any empathy, she told me "You're not going anywhere. We're going to finish our session." I scoffed in disbelief and headed for the door. Dr. Moritz then proceeded to get another therapist to physically barricade the front door with his body. Obviously, I felt trapped, so I began to panic even more. I started pacing back and forth and hyperventilating. Dr. Moritz didn't care. Now, if you're thinking that her concern was that I shouldn't be driving in the middle of a panic attack, it wasn't, because my mother was there. She was my ride. She would have driven me home. So my mother is standing there helplessly not knowing what to do. She wants to get me out of there, but she feels like she can't do anything. She tried insisting that these sad excuses for doctors let me go, but they told her what they told me. I couldn't leave until I calmed down. Eventually, I did calm down. I sat there peacefully and said in a soft voice "Ok. I'm better. Now can I go home?" Dr. Moritz still refused to let me out of the building. Thus, my panic attack started all over. I was pulling my hair and screaming. I said something that was quite unfortunate to Dr. Moritz, which I guess she took literally. I believe my exact words were "I hate you, you b****." This woman responded to that by calling the cops because she claimed that I was a threat to myself and others. So the police arrived, they tossed me onto the couch face first, and they handcuffed me behind my back. As this happened, my breathing became so much more erratic that my vision became blurry and my entire body went numb. I very nearly passed out. Luckily, there was a very nice paramedic there as well to evaluate me. He took one look at my face and said "Her pupils are extremely dilated and she can barely breathe. This situation you're putting her in is only escalating the panic attack. You need to let her go now. This girl is harmless. It's just her anxiety that's making her do this." So the police uncuffed me and they went to Dr. Moritz in private. A few minutes later, Moritz and the police stepped back in, and with her permission, I left. The next day, she called me and said she wanted me to come back. I was like "Hell no!" You know what she said? "If you don't come to me, I'll come to you. Remember, I know where you live." How's THAT for an actual threat? Anyway, this whole ordeal left me totally untrusting of any other therapist and I remained an agoraphobe, afraid to seek help elsewhere. Finally, at some point, I decided to get help again with somebody new. Dr. Jennifer Hochman helped me become the person that I am today. She did exposure therapy right. That, plus a change in meds did wonders. At this new place, The OCD Research Center, Dr. Hochman actually cared about me. It was more than just a business for her. At NBI, they just want to suck you dry of money, insisting that you need two to three sessions with different therapists daily at least five times a week. They would throw you around from one doctor to the next. They ran the place like a factory where you were an object on a production line instead of a mental health facility where you're a person who needs help. Dr. Hochman, however, took her time with me. She very slowly built me up to bigger things. We started out doing little stuff that I wasn't too uncomfortable with, then gradually moved along. And if I ever felt overwhelmed, I was allowed to stop and go home whenever I wanted. DO NOT GO TO NBI! They will hold you against your will. read more
