Great experience at NC State as a parent of an undergrad. Their internet presence is well-maintained, with an easy to understand website for parents, the Brickyard, regarding all things from payments to newsletters. The campus is exactly what you'd expect in the south, the classic and conservative layout with old red brick buildings lining the original main streets of campus. There are iconic landmarks throughout campus known by the students and the Belltower, of course. There are also updated and extremely modern buildings spanning the large footprint of this growing campus in downtown Raleigh. The campus is kept very clean and there are student, faculty and paid parking lots for visitors throughout. There are apps available for the difference activities and needs on campus, including a safety watch app for parents so they can remain in the know about happenings, even if they're out of state. The campus is very walkable and a lot of students walk to Hillsborough, a road defining one of the edges of campus. There's plenty to eat and shop for on this road. There are several parks on campus and near campus. There are also, I think, around seven gyms across campus, a few of which are designed, especially for the college athletes. Cafeterias also numerous and spread across campus and students can discover their favorite while studying on campus. My son stayed in a pretty traditional older dorm for four years as RA and had a pleasant time. The facilities were a little old, but he had all of his basics. There was a men's and women's restroom on his floor, a laundry room, usually a community kitchen, and a sink and closet in his dorm along with electrical hook ups for his computer and everything else needed. Desk and bed provided as well. There's a Costco in a Trader Joe's in town nearby that you could drive or take the bus to. Campus also had its own bus line for students. read more

The low down: Taking a tour for my son, who is now officially part of the pack, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I really love NC State and what it has to offer. This is a hard admit for a Carolina Girl. Fun Fact: In 1983, when Coach Jim Valvano led the men's basketball team to a very unlikely win in the NCAA Championship, the "Wolfpack" became registered and it's logos became federally licensed trademarks. Also, alumni can get a gym membership for a fee each month. Having had a few college tours under my belt thanks to my son and his journey to find his perfect fit for higher education, we went on the Admitted Student Tour at NC State! It was well organized, informative and walking around that campus, my son just seemed at home. The one thing I can say about NC State is there are a lot of bricks! Walking around local college and universities is a cheap and fun activity I try and take advantage of each time I travel. NC State University was recently on my list. Took a tour of NC State with my daughter, who is currently a Senior in high school. The campus was quite nice, and all of the students and staff that were apart of the tour was very helpful. We went through various departments and learned a little bit about each one. when my daughter was sure of what major she wants to pursue, we were able to talk to that school and was able to see the 'day in a life of a student'. We were able to see what a typical dorm room looked like (much nicer than the ones I experienced years ago), what the mesh hall looks like and the type of foods they had to offer. The students within the school we were looking at were also very friendly describing some of the projects that they were working on, as well as how they enjoyed the school. The campus was huge, and we walked it all day. I think if my daughter does come to the school, she'll utilize some of the electric scooters that are scattered all around the campus. At any time, a person can 'rent' a scooter to take them from point a to point b, cutting the walking time in half (or more). We were able to talk to people associated with the tour, as well as students. It was definitely a mind blowing session, as well as free 'ad lib' type of talks with the students. A bonus was, the day we were visiting the campus for the campus tour, was the same day that Bill Nye was on campus enticing students to vote! read more

I am going to preface this by saying I am a Duke fan. I married into it though, so go easy on me. I don't know too much about the university in terms of standing or how it ranks, but this review is more centered on the actual grounds of the campus. I stayed at a hotel right across from campus while my wife participated in a clinic held on campus. I found the campus really beautiful and well kept. I don't think I saw all of it, but I saw a lot of the buildings and I was impressed with how nice they were. The campus feels inviting and it was easy to walk around or bike around. The campus is pretty easy to navigate and there are tons of great restaurants and bars nearby. You also have your common chain fast food and stores, which is great when you live on campus. I would have loved that for my campus when I was in college. You will find art throughout the campus as well. I thought it was nice to see art installations set up around the campus. It seems like they really value art on campus. The basketball arena is gorgeous inside. I loved how the inside of the arena celebrates former great NC State teams in different sports as well as NC State athletes who went on to do well in professional leagues. I didn't go in the cafeteria building, but it is gorgeous. It looks brand new and I can imagine it is popping during the school year. I would come see an event on campus if given the opportunity I would jump at taking a class or clinic here. read more

I love this school as my husband is an employee and the options to use the gym is truly amazing. Having access to so much from classes to equipment is truly amazing. The campus as a whole is welcoming and this along is amazing. read more

NC State University - Wolfpack Nation - Colleges & Universities Near Me - Raleigh, North Carolina

Absolute nightmare of an experience with this school (NCSU). I transferred into NCSU with a perfect 4.0 GPA from a different university and ended up with just barely a 3.0 after 3 semesters due to most, if not all of the classes there being designed in a way to purposefully make students fail the course no matter how much effort is put in just so they can "keep up the rigor of the school" as I've heard a professor say before. This is outlined by statistics that show most students failing classes at above the 200 and 300 level. Now, not only can I not change my major here into anything else due to every single major here requiring at least a 3.5 GPA and that is in any department, I also cannot transfer to a good university anymore due to this school ruining my GPA. They try claiming that their "grade exclusion" system is helpful, yet they themselves know every student going there uses up their grade exclusion as fast they get into the university and then when you transfer to a different university, those "grade exclusions" don't even matter because they look at them anyway. The system setup to change your major at NCSU is horrible, you have to wait 3 to 4 months for each "cycle" and ALSO be enrolled into the school, meaning, if you have taken most of all the classes that you would need already for your major and close to graduating, you have to take classes that won't even count towards your major and hope that in 3 to 4 months, someone higher up decides that you are good enough to change into their major, which the only determining factor being your GPA, that has to be AT LEAST a 3.5 for ANY major in the school to even be considered no matter your excellent past grade history in other classes at NCSU. You can have an outstanding cumulative GPA at NCSU for three, four semesters, but if you mess up for one semester and end up with bad grades, guess what, your GPA is under 3.0 now even after grade exclusions and there is little to no chance of you being able to change your major into anything, meaning all the time and money you spent at NCSU is worthless because you can't even graduate from there anymore. And once you mess up your GPA here, you can get all A's from this point and it won't matter, because the way that cumulative GPA works here, is that you can only raise your GPA by 0.1 to 0.2 at best if you end up with all A's the next semester, which won't happen anyway, you will get B's AT BEST if you are lucky, meaning you will stay at the ruined GPA that you have from just one semester, which is what determines if you can change your major or graduate from the school. The counselors can't help with anything, all they do is help you take the right courses for your major, which is intuitive anyway, so that you can graduate as fast as possible, only to realize that the average person going to NCSU graduates in six to eight years due to having to retake courses, changing majors and other inconvenient and deplorable practices that are in place just to make you fail courses no matter how much work you put into them. And then they charge your extra tuition fees when you have more credits than you are "supposed to have". Claiming that this system is in place to "speed up" the graduation process even though they know most of the delay in graduation has nothing to do with the student as the student wants to graduate as fast as possible anyway but delays happen and they blame this rule on the state, claiming that they have nothing to do with it. Overall, I would not suggest any sane student to go here unless you wish to lose your sanity, dignity, hope and any amount of success in terms of GPA that you have gathered from a different school. read more
