We loved his personality because he was outgoing but not pushy. We knew he would keep the minions in line, but in a nice and fun way. His work is impeccable. He has an amazing eye for detail and also captured the standard wedding shots with an artistic flair. He is very easy to work with and not outrageously priced. There is no doubt Eric Powell is a great photographer. But he is not easy to work with, is not very…read moreflexible and has a major attitude problem. In 2005, we booked Eric for our wedding. He had done a couple of other Indian weddings before and was recommended by a friend. For those who don't know, Indian weddings are 4 to 5 days long, with the wedding and reception falling on the penultimate day. Needless to say, it is a stressful event for the bride and groom. At our reception, he didn't like the way one of my groomsmen talked to him. Basically, he was taking family portrait pictures of some of our guests while others waited to take their pictures with us. We kept having to fetch him to come shoot pictures of us (the ones who had hired him) with our guests, but Eric kept drifting away. So I sent one of my groomsmen to call him, and Eric didn't like the way he was called in the middle of clicking someone. So he came up to us and threw a fit, causing quite a stir. He recapped the number of hours he had put in and that he had already stayed past his allotted time. After that, he stuck around for a little bit, took a few more pictures and left. The whole thing left a very sour taste in our mouth. Eric's attitude and his behavior took us by surprise. Perhaps he was tired, maybe he had booked another wedding that weekend and was double-shifting. Needless to say, he sort of ruined our reception for us and that memory will always remain. The next day, he called in the morning, but instead of apologizing, he asked for more money or he would not show up to the final event. Now if you have been married (and I am not talking about the drive-thru Vegas style or a low key event), you know it is stressful. There are days when things run behind schedule, and everyone has to stay a little late. If you are a to-be bride reading this, or someone who has been a bride, I have been told that your wedding day is the single most important event of your life and it is a day you have dreamed about since before you could spell the word "wedding". So even if your photographer is upset, or has an issue, he needs to suck it up, put on a smile and do his job. All issues/qualms can be discussed later. Right? Clearly it was NOT us. Our videographer was great. Our caterers were great. Our florist was great. We had no problems with anyone. In fact, we didn't have a problem with Eric until he took issue with being asked to photograph the bride and groom and threw a hissy fit. In his words "I am an artist and I will take the pictures that I want". I guess we didn't get the memo. So while his pictures may be good, he is certainly not a professional in my opinion. For small jobs, he might be ok. For longer, more intense stints, know that his temperament might work against you.

We ended up flying him down to the Bay Area to shoot our engagement photos. My fiancé and I had a great time having him photograph our day. He was extremely professional, made us feel relaxed, very unobtrusive and just knew what he was doing. He just knew how to make us feel comfortable and relaxed! Must be that aloha spirit! He has a great eye for using space and especially lighting! I'm not a big fan of flash and he didn't use any all day--even when we weren't in well-lit areas of Fort Point under the Golden Gate Bridge. Once, he even used the light bouncing off of a window from the sun to "spotlight" us. Clever! His turnaround time for our online gallery was extremely quick. Something that I think everyone appreciates. I'm so excited to have him as our photographer for our wedding next year and I look forward to working with him again.

All my insecure spots that make me cringe, were for once not the focus of the photo and not because she used Photoshop or some photo editing software but she took care with finding the right pose for me and the lighting was wonderful! I've spoken to her already about doing my family photos and I'm soooooo looking forward to that. Serravision is great! Especially if you're one of those folks that are a bit insecure, her easy going sensitive nature will put you right at ease! Heck, I may even ask her to do a boudoir photo for my next anniversary!

Update 12/2016: original review below. I never thought I'd be one to do regular profesional photos…read moreof my family but I've so loved Serra's photos that we've now done two additional sessions. Her new pricing structure is awesome if you want to work with someone long term. She accurately captured our always moving toddlers in some amazing candid/real life photos which is what we wanted. And a couple of amazing poses family shots as well:). Original review: We had such a great experience working with Serra for our maternity and newborn photos. This was the first time we had professional photos taken and Serra was not someone we knew so we weren't really sure what to expect. My husband was reluctant to have photos taken as he says he always looks terrible in posed pictures because he is not comfortable in front of the camera. I mentioned this to Serra prior to our shoot and she let us know that her goal with her work is for clients to feel comfortable and at ease. Our maternity shoot was done in a park. Afterwards my husband and I were talking about how it just felt like a fun afternoon in the park, and not like we were getting our photos taken. They turned out great-we look like ourselves, but it is clear that Serra understands photography and the photos are amazing. We then went back for our newborn shoot. As a new mom, it is a little nerve racking to hand your baby off to a stranger to have his/her photos taken. When we arrived our baby was awake and not happy. Serra was able to get him to sleep and take amazing photos of him. Also, I somehow turned out looking good in the photos even though it was ten days after giving birth. This was true even in the unedited versions so I am confident Serra knows what she is doing:) Overall it was an enjoyable, professional experience with photos to treasure for a lifetime.
